Quite simply, the perfect place. After saving for 2 years to come here and integrate this beautiful place with THE question to my then girlfriend of 9 years, any reservations I may have had with parting a decent some of money to a hotel in the middle of nowhere were duly disintegrated on arrival. It simply is the best place...

A wonderful hotel in a great location. It is set along a beautiful river that our kids loved running out to. The food is outstanding! We really enjoyed meeting and talking with the owner who made sure we were satisfied which we were. The hot tub is in a beautiful setting behind the hotel with lovely views.

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Ranga and used it as a base for exploring the area. It has a country lodge decor and our room was very comfortable and spotless, with a large bathroom and jacuzzi. We found all the staff members, from reception, to wait staff very pleasant and welcoming. The reception staff was very helpful with arranging...

This hotel is not about bling-bling, designer furniture, hype or trendy. For us it was all about comfort and feeling at home. There was space in our room, the sofa and bed were comfortable and everything we needed was there. The bathroom was huge with a jacuzzi. Being on the ground floor was great, there is a direct access from...

The hotel is located out in the countryside a bit and is really nice. We were there during a super jeep trip of a few days. The rooms are clean and nice. Outside is warm spa bath to soak in. During the aurora's period they will calle your room if you want to, when they appear in the sky. It's...

We stayed two nights at Hotel Ranga as part of a Backroads Multi-sport trip. Our room was very comfortable, and we found the staff very friendly and welcoming. The bonus for us was the outstanding restaurant where we had some of the best food during our stay in Iceland. Would love to return for the Northern Lights!

The hotel is situated a distance from, but within sight of, the Hekla Volcano. A winding river runs through the back of the property. Upon arrival you may be unimpressed because of the nonexistent (or natural) landscaping, but once inside you'll see why this place is such a treat. A warm log style covers the inside of every wall. The...

We spent three nights at the Ranga. It was a great base for exploring the area. A little bit away from things, which is actually a plus. Rustic style, but a sophisticated experience. Very attentive staff and owner. The food is quite good. Beautiful views from the public spaces. Does tend to serve larger groups, as many of the hotels...

We found other hotels we stayed at lacked the attention to detail and service ethos that the extortionate prices in Iceland led us to demand. This hotel however is the exception. Charming and helpful staff, great food, spotless fully equipped rooms all set in a delightful country lodge. The owner visited every guest at dinner, engaged with us and offered...

We had a room near the outdoor hot tubs, which I took full advantage of. Our room had a beautiful view of the river running behind the property. It was quite comfortable and spacious. We ate in the restaurant and had one of the best meals we had in Iceland. The lamb and fish were cooked perfectly. Staff was excellent.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
