This is a separate review of a very bad experience my extended family and I had at the Wailea Grand Champion Villas pool. The two villas we rented - at a significant cost - were close to one of the pools, and we had four grandchildren under the age of 18 with us. There were quite a few children at this property, however, there were also a large number of senior citizens. Unbeknownst to us, there are two pools at this property. The pool closest to our villas had a sign that read something to the effect of: "No splashing, no toys, no noise..." in other words, "No Fun!" We grandparents were enjoying some time at the pool with our four grandchildren and their mom, my daughter, and no one else was present in the pool area. Remember, this was a POOL. A very heavyset "guard" entered and commenced to berate us for playing with a ball in the pool, and throwing the ball in the pool net. He repeated himself over and over, that we were obviously breaking the pool rules, and then sarcastically insulted my daughter in front of her children and all of us. He then commented, "Many of these senior residents have my cell number on their speed dial" as if we were supposed to be impressed. This vacation of ours was a long-awaited one for we as grandparents, our adult children, and our grandchildren, and after a long pandemic. This heavyset guard took his "job duties" much too far and seriously soured what was some enjoyable family pool time. He was extremely out of line. Perhaps the old crony seniors at Wailea Grand Champions should gather one night and watch "Cocoon," the 1985 film about a group of old people, residents of a Florida rest home, who get a new lease on life when they stumble across an alien "fountain of youth" in a disused holiday home. Unbeknownst to them, aliens have been using the swimming pool in the house to store their cocooned brethren, giving the waters a powerful, rejuvenating quality. The Grand Champions Villas senior residents, and their patronizing guard, might actually get a new lease on life if they get into the pool, splash one another, laugh, make some noise, and HAVE FUN. Perhaps they'd not be shuffling around in their flip flops, acting so "old." After all, they are in Paradise.…
