I only got to stay one night in Te Waonui Forest Retreat but I loved it. The rooms are in the middle of the rainforest (ofcourse with a beautiful view!) the staff is very friendly. Even the manager came to have a talk. The room was big, bright and clean. The food was amazing as well. I can only recommend...

We were not expecting this type of quality hotel in the area and loved everything about it, particularly the Maori welcome and farewell. The rooms are beautiful as is the bed, bedding and pillows. The staff we dealt with were excellent. Yes, it's pricey but we loved it!

As the name suggests, this hotel felt very much like a forest retreat. Upon arriving, we were given a big greeting and promptly helped to our room. Our room was spacious, tranquil, and well-equipped, including a balcony that faced a lush forest-like courtyard. However, aside from the bathroom, the lighting felt inadequate. Perhaps this was keeping with the forest theme,...

We had been upgraded to this hotel by the tour company and wow! How pleased we were with this quality hotel in The Forest. The service is very friendly and all members of staff care about making you happy and welcome. The bar is well stocked and very clean as are all the rooms. This is the best hotel in...

We stayed here only for one night on a bed, breakfast and dinner package, and thought it was a lovely hotel. It blends perfectly with the lush foliage and provides a very comfortable respite from busy hiking and traveling. Our room was on the upper floor, I think it was 1125, and the view across the lush foliage was so...

Not often do you come across Hotels that remind you of what good service looks like, this exemplifies it. The GM Richard Bungeroth take a bow for running such a tight ship, the staff are super, attention to detail is not spared in the room nor in the hotel. Rooms are stylish and comfy with a view of the rain-forest,...

We enjoyed a 2 night stay at the retreat, including breakfast, and degustation dinner. From the moment you set foot in reception you know its special. The people in traditional maori costume at reception were a surprise, pretty cool though. Our room was lovely, spacious and well appointed. Private outlook over trees was pleasant. The bed looked super luxurious, but...

This is an eco lodge on the outskirts of Franz Josef. It has a nice reception leading to a lovely bar with a log fire in it. We had a beautiful spacious room in a block out the back from the main building- strange access to it over a wooden footbridge and up a stairs - perhaps this was added...

Beautiful place right beside the glacier .. I just wish that every hotel could be like this! The staff couldn't have been more friendly and attentive from the start to the end of our trip, and we really appreciated the little extras like the fresh towels, bottles of water and chocolates in our room every evening. Dinner was absolutely delicious...

We really enjoyed our one-night stay at this well-run Eco lodge. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with its unique position of looking straight into the rain forest. Our bed was exceedingly comfortable, so we slept very well. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Lodge is a lovely, relaxing place to stay...
