My wife and I stayed at East Portal Campground for two nights staging for a backpacking trip into the RMNP backcountry...and we could not wait to get in to the backcountry and away from the obnoxious people. The facility itself is okay but the camp sites are way to close together. On the second night a family set up camp...

We don't prefer to camp in "campgrounds", we are more the National Park camping type, but with the kids, the convenience that was provided by the campground suited our needs better. The East Portal Campground is kept up very well, the bathrooms were always clean, there was no litter on any of the paths, and the kids loved the playground....

When you're driving into the campground, you get an amazing view of the Rockies! This whole campground is awesome. I felt very safe there and campers tend to keep to themselves. The bathrooms and showers were super clean and so appreciated (flushing toilets) If it was full, it probably would have been uncomfortable, but luckily there weren't many people so...

We are avid campers and enjoy coming to the Estes Park/Rocky Mountain NP area in the summer. I found this campground online when others were unavailable and was hopeful that it would be a good experience. It was a big letdown. First off, we brought a popup camper that is 19 ft and could only barely maneuver into a cramped...

The facilities are very clean. The bathroom and showers were very nice. Everyone we dealt with made sure we were finding everything we needed and were very helpful. The only bad thing I would say about this campground is that the sites are very close together, so you hear everything going on in the other sites.

We have been coming to this campground for five years. We stayed in A24. We heard elk bugling at night for three of the nights. We pulled in on Labor Day and left on Friday. Our first morning in camp we had a small herd of deer come through camp. three does and two fawns. Last year we had a...

We stayed at the East Portal campground for two nights over Labor Day weekend. We were unable to get a spot within Rocky Mountain National Park. Research led us to East Portal, which is just outside the Park (less than ten minutes by car). We were quite pleased with East Portal and would consider staying there again, even if campsites...

Thank you for your very positive review! Our staff (many are volunteers) always appreciate feedback that recognizes their efforts and encourages others to visit the park they are so passionate about. We are excited to have recently partnered with the Rocky Mountain Conservancy who will be providing a dynamic and fun presentation every Saturday evening at the East Portal Campground....

Unfortunately, the sites are not level. I think it would be relatively easy to level them and that would make a world of difference. We were there in a Class B RV and couldn't level it, so didn't get a good night's sleep. The picnic table was on an extreme slope and we had a hard time eating at the...

We stayed in A27, which had ample space for parking and backed up to the trees. The whole campground, including the bathroom areas, was clean and well tended. The staff was very friendly and provided great information on local trails. The campsite is right across from a trail head that splits off into a number of great day hikes (we...

We had a large tent in site A19, but the ground was complete rock. It was on the outside of the grounds so it was very rocky. We couldn't get our tent up! We checked in at noon as the reservation requested and we worked for 2.5 hours trying to get our stakes into the ground. When we did get...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
So close, yet feels so far away from the hustle and bustle of Estes Park. This very popular campground is located at an elevation of 8,300 feet at the end of a beautiful road just west of town. There are wonderful views of the snow covered peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park and access to the East Portal Reservoir which has ample opportunities for fishing. This double loop campground offers shady sites suitable for tenters and campers with small RVs and trailers shorter than 24 feet in length. It is especially well-suited for families and outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore nearby nature and trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. Sites at this campground open up to views of Rocky Mountain National Park and starry nighttime skies. A mature blend of ponderosa and lodgepole pines interspersed with groves of aspens makes it a wonderful home away from home. It is an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. The camping season runs from May 15th - October 3rd. ... more   less
