We are a family ran (3rd generation) family friendly motel. We are nestled between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. Only minutes from the Thornton Gap entrance of the Skyline Drive. We are conveniently located near all there is to do, see and enjoy in the Shenandoah Valley! Please contact us for all of your traveling needs. We are seasonal open between April and October of each year. Please email us if for reservations starting April 26,2019!
This motel is obviously older, but is clean and affordable! The original / vintage hardware adds to its charm. The important items such as the bathtub / shower combo and toilet have been updated. The bed and pillows were a little too firm for my taste, but for the price, it’s not worth a second thought. Beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, too!

RUN don't walk to book this lovely motel. It lived up to the great reviews. The location was fantastic with amazing views of the mountains. The motel lived up to my Americana dream, I personally loved the chintzy decor and the older style of the rooms. It was spotlessly clean. Everyone who worked there was so friendly especially travelling on my own I felt super safe. The pool area was clean, well maintained and a great spot to cool down after a busy day. I would come back to the usa just to come stay here again that's how much I loved it!!

Where do I start? This is probably one of the cleanest places that I have stayed!! It's a no frills motel, but everything is kept to the highest cleanliness and the staff are so friendly. It's a couple miles outside of Luray, so it's quiet, and the pool is nice, relaxing and so clean. I really can't come up with more praise which they deserve, so if you want a small (19 rooms) motel with clean rooms and even cleaner grounds...stay here!!

This motel was chosen as a budget-friendly option for a quick one-night stay while we toured Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. The motel was clean, although the scent of Pine-Sol (or other such cleanser) was rather strong. The walls seemed thin, as we could hear our neighbors converse at times, but the location was very peaceful and convenient. It is an old building with low ceilings, but the AC works and there is a decent pool. I don't know that I agree with other comments about upgraded bedding, but it was fine. It reminded me of places I traveled with my grandparents as a child. I'd consider it as a viable option when passing through and expect no frills. It is cute and well-maintained and serves the purpose.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hillside Motel in late October. We wanted something close to Shenandoah National Park and this was about a 10 min drive the Thorton Gap entrance. Room was nice and clean, we had a 2 bedroom suite at the far end of the motel. It's a dog friendly hotel which is good if you have a dog but bad if you don't. The dog next door to us kept sniffing and scratching at at the door for making it an adjoining room. Woke us up a few times when it started barking also. Can't blame the motel for that, just pointing out you may get stuck next to bad neighbors. Walls were paper thin too, could hear the people next door talking but it's an older motel so that's to be expected. They have Wifi but I guess because we were at the far end we were not really able to connect to it on either of our phones or my laptop. Probably need a range extender or signal booster for that end of the motel. Check in was quick and easy, have an outdoor office you can just walk up to the window and not have to go inside for good social distancing.
Bathroom was very large and spacious, water pressure was good and plenty of hot water for taking a shower.
Only real complaint was the remote in the main bedroom had something sticky on it, felt like when you peel a sticker off something and it leaves a residue. We tried cleaning it with some Clorox wipes but it was still there. Might need Goo Gone or something. The remote in the other bedroom was fine.
Overall, a nice 2 night stay, it was under $100 a night so for that price for fall leaf season you cannot be too picky. We plan on doing this every fall to come see the leaves in Shenandoah NP and will likely stay here again!

Hi. Thank you for the rating and feedback. Sorry I am a little late in responding as I try to respond within a 24-48 hours. We are glad to see that the room met your needs and housekeeping appreciates the compliment of the cleanliness of the room! We do apologize for the pet next door and try to encourage guests that bring pets to ensure they are kept quiet. In 2020 we were placing self-sticking saran wrap around remotes for COVID and we did notice it leaving a sticky residue on some of the remotes, so we apologize that you had one of those but hopefully have that taken care of now. The room you were in is one we have trouble with WiFi, we have access points but the concrete walls seems to keep it from picking up well inside this room. We do appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again this fall!

Run by a local this small but charming motel beats the hell out of a Days Inn corporate stay. If possible ask for room 1 as it offers a side porch with a great view of the mountains. The owners were very friendly and took time to give us a little history lesson of the property even though they were busy getting the pool ready for Memorial Day opening. Our room was very clean and had a tv, micro-wave and refrigerator and reasonably priced.

When visiting a National Park, our family never expects to spend much time indoors, so we always look for a great motel nearby. Hillside Motel is clean, reasonable, and situated perfectly near an entrance to Shenandoah National Park. The staff is friendly, the vibe is quiet, and spotty WiFi was our only issue.
If your vacation is about the hotel, this is probably not your spot. If a clean, affordable room that gets you quickly to the trails is what you’re after, this is the place.
NB: Room 19 was ideal for giving us a little space from our 7yo, with a separate bedroom allowing us to watch a movie or play a board game while he slept.

Hi Doyle. Thank you for choosing the Hillside Motel and taking time to provide us with a rating and review. Yes, room 19 (our suite) is great for families wanting a little extra space with the second room. We do apologize for the WiFi as we know it's a little spotty but we have installed an extra router in hopes of that helping. Come see us again the next time you are visiting the area!

Stayed three nights at this older. basic hotel located close to the Thorton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park but the is little else nearby. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was large and there was a microwave and mini-fridge in the room but our room was the third or fourth from one end of the hotel and the Wi-Fi was useless; coupled with weak mobile data, this was a real inconvenience. The room rate was attractive and if looking for good access to the park, and satisfied with basic accommodations, Hillside is a viable option.

Thanks Steve for choosing the Hillside Motel. We are sorry that the WiFi wasn't the best for you but we have just this week had an additional modem/router installed to help with WiFi in the upper rooms. We are happy to see that you was able to enjoy the Shenandoah National Park, it's definitely a beautiful attraction. We are glad to hear that room met you needs as well.

I stayed one night at the Hillside Motel in Sept. 2020 in Luray, VA. It was a great location for me. It is located on Lee Highway outside of town just a few miles from Shenandoah National Park. It is only 3.25 miles to the center of Luray. I was planning to arrive long after office hours, so I submitted that request when I booked through Expedia. I got a quick reply that they were able to accommodate my request. I chose the basic room with a queen bed, unit #6. It came with secure WiFi, a generously sized mini-frig with real freezer, microwave, coffee maker and TV. It was clean and comfortable. There was some traffic noise from the nearby highway. The staff where hospitable and welcoming. Did this review earn your “Thankful” vote?

I was looking for a place with no indoor common areas and an outdoor pool. This worked perfectly. Room was a nice size. Pool was clean and tables were well spaced. The women in the office were super nice and accommodating. Love the fire pit, but make sure to bring your own wood and fire starter. Location was very convenient to Luray and skyline. Only negative was the soap in the bathroom was face soap not antibacterial hand soap so might want to bring your own.

Very safe. Not just around the motel proper, but generally the entire area. I'm sure you'll really like it and the location. We'd definitely return again for a 3rd visit.
Thank you for the question and thank you for choosing the Hillside Motel for your stays. Route 211 is a double lane highway (not as busy as I81 or 95) but it does provide access to the Luray Cavern and the Shenandoah National Park (Thornton Gap Entrance) and is busier during Holiday weekends than normal weekends. All rooms are approximately the same distance from Route 211.
