After a long wait to check in, the first room we were given was just horrible, really dark and depressing and outdated, we went back to reception and thankfully were given a different room which was much brighter and definitely more modern than the first one. Some of the food coming out at dinner looked dreadful, but thankfully ours was much better than expected, but so thankful to have a Starbucks outside which we used for breakfast.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay here! The weather didn’t cooperate as much as we would have liked as it was very rainy, but we had a great stay anyway. We were in the Stonyman section, and we liked the room quite a lot. I would say this is one of the nicer National Park accommodations that we’ve experienced. It’s not luxury of course, but we don’t expect that staying in/near a National Park. We liked having a patio and a table/chairs in the room.

This place is certainly convenient if you are driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is a sprawling property with a variety of rooms and cabin types most in the woods and what you'd expect in a National Park. We had an unfortunate bad luck experience of being located near a loud wedding party, on a Sunday night in the middle of a National Park! Go figure. I had to drive up to the reception area in the dark to complain and the lady was most understanding and immediately gave us a different very quiet room. But we had to pack up all our stuff and take it to the new room. The bar is small but good food and drink very friendly staff. They had a large dining room with a great view but we did not eat there. Unusual for this kind of place, they have a nice expresso bar in the lobby with good coffee products and a variety of baked goods, we ate there for breakfast. Both rooms we stayed in were clean and comfortable and beds offered a good nights sleep. I can certainly recommend Skyland for a reasonable value and great location.

The location can not be beat. The cabins are very old rustic felt like i was camping out. Sheets and towels were clean, but cabin needs some fixing up. Trail riding with horses was enjoyable and the staff was very friendly!

In the past, we have been delighted. This time not so much! The food at Skyland was nothing to brag about. My wife is gluten free. We were going to have breakfast this morning. We asked if it would be okay for her to bring in her gluten free bread and have them toast it for her. They do not offer gluten-free bread for toast. We were told that we could not bring foreign products into their commercial kitchen. She keep saying that they have gluten-free options. I told her that were aware and she had already had some of their gluten-free options during other meals eaten there. It wasn't like we were asking her to butcher our grass fed cow and prepare a T- bone steak for us. So sad because we will most likely not eat there again!!!

Sheets were not changed and when I told them to give me clean ones and I would do it myself, they told me they didn’t have any !!!!!! Apparently with no competition close by there is no effort to provide clean rooms .

Skyland is great. You're right in the heart of the park, near many of the best trails, and have a great view of the valley. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We had only good meals at the lodge. We also liked that the resort is pet friendly.

This historic mountain resort has clean, comfortable rooms, an excellent restaurant, and friendly staff. All this is in addition to the beauty of Shenandoah National Park! My husband and I will be returning in the future.

Im not one to usually write bad reviews but the only thing stopping this from being 1 star is the view. the rooms are extremely old and has a weird smell/mold in the bathroom. I recommend bringing your own pillow if ur wanting to sleep. for $275 I expected better. The restaurant was very good looking but the food was average at best.

As part of a driving vacation through Virginia, my wife and I had so much looked forward to the drive along the Skyline Drive and our stay at Skyland. Entering the park from the south, we were not disappointed, the views from the outlooks spectacular, the driving made easier with the majority of other vehicles respectful of the speed limit and forgiving of an international visitor. Arriving at Skyland, we were again suitably impressed, the setting of the restaurant, tap room et al being simply stunning. Parking up we made our way to the office for check-in. We were greeted by a nice gentleman who allocated us room #74 in the Shenandoah Unit and provided route details to the accommodations which were relatively straight forward. Arriving at the unit, we were again impressed with the views over the valley, which along with the dark sky’s were the reason for our visit. However that is where the good vibe ended. Trying to access the unit, the door handle was insecure to a point where with (I believe) little effort you could access without the key. Upon entering, the room smelt stale, there were a number of caterpillars spread across the floor as well as a couple of dead spiders. Overall the room was dusty and trying my best with an old analog AC controller, I could not get the unit to work. Whilst given the environment, you can expect the bugs, but the standard of room did not even closely resemble the on-line photographs and left a lot to be desired for the $300+ we had paid. What troubled me most was the door, to such an extent we intended leaving our possessions in the hire vehicle. Instead we committed to going back to the office to request a change of room. The gentleman we had first spoken to was in the first instance apologetic and changed our room to #77 in the adjacent unit. In fairness this was of a far higher standard, digital AC, fridge etc, but most importantly secure, the bed extremely comfortable. We ate at the restaurant, the food reasonably priced and of a good standard. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly, often stopping to chat. Overall, whilst disappointed with the first room, we were happy with the resolution and our remaking stay which was sadly too short. Given the opportunity we would definitely stay again but would look closely at the room options.

Room Tip: Avoid the Shenandoah Unit, the views are spectacular but the accommodations less so
