My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Shadow Mountain Escape. The cabins are a perfect combination of rustic style and modern amenities. We stayed in the Butterfly Cabin, which includes a small kitchen if you want to cook. It comes equipped with a Keurig machine and has a great little balcony for enjoying your morning coffee. The cabins...

We were looking for a place to rest, enjoy nature and to take a break from the daily grind and just breathe. What we found was a piece of heaven the owners Karen and Ralph Riddle have created on the doorstep of the Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park. A few days felt like weeks as we got to enjoy...

We stayed here four years ago and our weekend in February was a perfect return! We love everything about this place – from the property to the structure to the resident animals. This weekend we hiked, ate, drank and explored. To top it off, we had a blast with Ralph and Karen at the Gluhwein event.

My husband and myself lost our oldest son on June 26, 2016 and I stumbled into this nearby paradise and booked it for us without him even knowing until the last minute. I was elated that there was one cabin available (Ladybug Cabin) on the exact date of our son's 5 month date of passing. We did not want to...

We heard about Shadow Mountain Escape from friends, and even though it's just an hour from home, it's a world away from our busy lives—the perfect place for me to write and for my husband to read and study. In creating Shadow Mountain Escape and pouring their heart, soul, vision, and love into its design and management, hosts/owners Karen and...

The property borders the Shenandoah National Park. We stayed in the cozy Dragonfly authentic timber frame cabin. Full kitchen and TV but limited Wi-Fi. The lodge has a basement cantina, a covered patio, and an inside lookout where you can read and relax. Very well-maintained and lovely and our hosts were gracious. They have a nature trail that leads to...

I took my boyfriend here for a birthday surprise..we both live a hectic life so a quiet, calm getaway was what we needed. Shadow Mountain Escape provided us with this setting and so much more! The cabins were spacious, clean and beautiful. The grounds were immaculate and the owners were so friendly! Even the house cat of the property greeted...

We had a fantastic stay at the "Butterfly" cabin at Shadow Mountain Escape! The cabin itself was extremely clean, well appointed and comfortable. The craftsmanship of the cabin and the design of the décor was thoughtful and impressive. Management met us at the cabin at check in and offered us a personal tour, guidance for local dinner and winery options,...

Stayed the first weekend in August. I read tripadvisor before we book any trip or hotel and I can honestly say that I have never read 99% or possibly 100% of positive reviews. But I can say without hesitation that SME deserves it!! When we arrived we had some car trouble, Karen not only gave us the names and directions...

I can't believe it's taken me so long to review this place. First of all, the cabins and scenery are absolutely stunning. The owners are so friendly, kind and welcoming. They have obviously put a lot of love and energy into their property and cabins. If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, this is it.

Thank Kristen H
