It was a beautiful day on the Shenandoah River! There was a large group of young teen girls that launched about the same time as we did, so there was a lot of screaming, but that couldn’t be helped. Be aware, however, that there are busloads almost constantly entering the river and floating with you. Floating might be a generous description as the river is super shallow for much of the float; so much so that we would get off the tube from time to time just to push us along. Getting into the river is challenging as you can’t just hop into your tube and you’re off. You have to traverse the uneven, rocky river bottom (I’m not talking pebbles, here...these are large rocks with crevices determined to grab your ankles) and get far enough off shore before you get into your tube in order to avoid a large tree that has fallen into the river. We (6 of us) barely got onto the river before one of our tubes began to deflate. We discovered it had already been patched but we had not been made aware of that when we chose the tube. It’s pretty chaotic from sign-in, to getting a life preserver, to signing the waiver and getting a seat on the bus. Once you get to the launch point, more chaos grabbing a tube off the truck (2 different sizes) and a cooler float (also 2 different sizes), and putting into the river with no guidance. Anyway....the person whose tube deflated had to get into the cooler float (thankfully, we’d gotten the bigger one) with the coolers. We tied the deflated tube to one of ours and towed it down river with us. The float is lonnnggg....seems to go on forever. There are many times when the water, I swear, was not moving...at all. That’s when you want a paddle. You could use it to paddle, if the water is deep enough, or to push yourself off the rocks, which is more often the case. The numbered markers along the river bank you are told to look for are difficult to spot. We never saw number 9. We spotted number 10 about 2 1/2 hours into the float, and we thought number 11 would never appear...that’s where you exit the river. There was no happy chatter from anyone exiting the river after this tubing adventure. Everyone was just glad to be done...4 hours. There were three ducklings who followed us for awhile, which was fun. We did see the strangest thing, too: a herd of 15-20 cows walking along the river bank through the woods! They stopped and looked at us the continued meandering along. That was cool. We also saw a raccoon sticking his head out of a hole in one of the trees along the riverbank. All of this said, had the river water been moving just a little, it would have all been fine. The water temp was perfect, my raft was comfy enough, and the river was beautiful. The chaos, the crowd, the difficult launch, even the deflated tube (since we had a “spare” cooler float), could have been forgiven, but the float, itself, was just too slow. Seriously, bring a paddle👍🏻. They did refund the cost of the cooler float ($6) even though it was an actual tube ($22) that deflated🤷♀️. I would not do this tube adventure again.…

A group of our family and friends have canoed with SRO for many years, and now that they have cabins, it's great to party the night before and the day of canoeing. The cabins were rustic (take your own linens, shampoo, etc.), but comfortable. Our group occupied 5 cabins, and barbecued in the evenings. The directions to the cabins could be improved, but once there, no issues. Two hvac units in each cabin were a plus. Bring your lawn chairs, a frisbee and some firewood. The Luray Walmart is handy in case you forget anything. The staff at SRO were very helpful and accommodating. Plan the timing of your trip with the river water level in mind; too high and it's just floating down the river; too low and you carry your canoe a lot. Late May or June is probably best.

Cozy and comfy cabin close to Shenandoah River. This place has everything you could want. Fire pit and a grill and very peaceful. This was our second visit here. Room for walking and for kids to play. Although we didn't use kayaks because of small children, they were available. Perfect time of year and close to Luray caverns with their fun maze.

My husband and I went tubing today (July 8, 2016) and we had an amazing time. The staff was very punctual, professional, and attentive. We had a great time and felt quite safe on our journey down the river. We will absolutely return if we come back to the area! Thanks again!

October 2015, we managed to pack eight people to include two children under four and four (small) dogs into this place. We could not have felt more at home secluded away with a singular view of the Shenandoah River. Despite the high water levels, we managed to have a perfectly good time between the cabin and relaxing outside. The eldest of the group stayed in the primary bedroom which is plenty spacious and comfortable. I stayed in the loft with one other and a child. I am 6'2" and broad shouldered, but managed to both fit and sleep comfortably up there. The youngest of the groups slept comfortably on the pull out couch on the main level. This was a great experience for us as a family and we look forward to doing it again.

Wour Family stayed here the lady was very polite on the phone and we were so excited. We stayed at the sinker cabin we were told it was a 2 bedroom with washer and dryer and hot tub no washer and dryer one room with very uncomfortable bed and the room had a bad fly problem the loft where our young teenagers slept had curse words written on the ceiling and the hot tub had alone in it from not being properly cleaned when I talked to the owner of the cabin she said it is not her job to clean it and rudely hung up on me when we finally left I got a very nasty email from the owner blaming the flies on us and saying my 13 &12 yr old daughter's wrote on the ceiling and that the cabin was in filth then she charged my credit card an extra 259.00 for cleaning fees she is very rude.. Other than that..the valley was beautiful lots of places to go and great food tons of family fun.. Will definitely be going back just not through canoes cabins.. We have spoken to a lawyer and are pending a lawsuit for the money she took and the way she spoke to us if you do decide to stay there keep all your emails they will come in handy later…

The Angler cabin was situated in the valley along side the river with fabulous views of the mountains. The cabin is considerably roomy compared to what it looks like from the outside. The kitchen had all the pans, plates and utensils we would need to cook a meal. The bathroom plenty big. The cabin also has Dish TV, when I booked the lady said it only had a DVD player, so thankfully no football was missed for a weekend get away. The cabin was clean, warm and perfect for our family of 4 and an 80 pound lab. The hot tub was an added bonus to warm us up after some snowy hikes in the mountains. There was no wifi, but we did have cell phone service (Sprint) at the cabin and on our hike up to Kennedy's Peak.

We just spent two nights tent camping at the Shenandoah River Outfitters. The campsite was full for Saturday night and they were very, very kind and allowed us to camp in their pavilion area. This ended up being a blessing in disguise. It was SO SO SO loud with partying, music, and mayhem until early in the morning that my husband and I hardly slept. Luckily our children slept through most of it. We were hoping the second night would be better since a majority of the campers seemed to be leaving. They offered to let us stay in the pavilion and so we did camp there again the second night. It ended up being even more noisy, crazy, and loud. Please were yelling, partying, screaming, fighting, into the early hours of the morning. The bathroom facilities were terrible. There was a strong odor of dirty water when you went to the bathroom every time. They didn't have soap most of the times when we went in to wash our hands. The showers were so so so disgusting. There was black mold growing all up the concrete. I had to tell my little girls (5 and 3) to NOT TOUCH ANYTHING a 100 times while I was trying to wash them up. It was so gross! They need to power wash, clean, and spray up the showers during the sticky summer months. I would NOT camp here again. Not family friendly, I felt it was more geared to parties and younger guests. We did do the rafting tour which was the BEST part of the weekend. We rafted down the river with all three children (ages 8, 5, and 3) and they said it was their favorite part of the weekend. I loved it! My husband and I both said we would definitely be back to raft or kayak again, but never to camp. They either need to manage the noise level, or make families aware of how loud it will be until late into the night.…

My husband and I have been trying different kayak outfitters this summer. We enjoyed our day, they pretty much did all the heavy work for you. kayaks were good and the river was fun. We went 8 mes in the pouring rain the day we went but it did not dampen the fun. At the end they were there to pick us up and take us back to our vehicles. Plan on doing again with them, well worth the cost. The only downside was, we paid for lunch which was suppose to be available from11 till 1 along one of the me markets. We got there at 11 and it wasn't set up..didn't get to leave until after noon. We would have brought our own lunches and will onThe future

Six of us stayed at the Paddler cabin for a family birthday celebration. We found the cabin clean with all advertised items. We cooked the majority of our meals there and did fine. In nice weather, we found that there was just enough room for this number of people, because the deck was used the most. Our one recommendation would be that the owners fix the living room ceiling fan, since it's hard to keep the temperature regulated in the loft. There are multiple scenic areas near the cabin to walk/run/hike and explore without having to go into town. The location was pretty convenient to Luray and Shenandoah National Forest as well.
