The Paniolo is a charming boutique Honolulu hotel located on Waikiki’s “Upper West Side” where you will find an abundance of restaurants, easy access to one of the world’s largest shopping malls, a quick stroll to the beach and gorgeous sunset views. This Honolulu Hotel is Waikiki’s only “North Shore connection,” as the ownership company also manages a magnificent 100-acre stretch of completely unspoiled beachfront property along O‘ahu’s North Shore. This is the home of the Hawai‘i Polo Club where polo matches, polo lessons and spectacular trail rides become available to hotel guests. We encourage our guests to make the beautiful drive to the hotel’s sister property on the North Shore for a day of riding, picnicking, swimming or beachcombing.

The Paniolo Bar & Cafe is open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Get an early start with hand-crafted artisan coffee and pastries served from morning till noon. Come back for happy hour with creative cocktails and drinks at night. Enjoy live music every Friday starting at 6:00 pm.

Paniolo has the perfect Hawaii feel! As the last family owned hotel in Waikiki you can tell they pay attention to the little things. Rory and Mariah makes the best drinks on island! Great times and chill vibes every night. Friday night there’s live music that won’t disappoint.

This was our second stay at The Equus, a couple of years apart. It's a wonderfully central location with a fair price ($220/day) for Honolulu. The staff is particularly accommodating, our appreciation especially to Rene who coordinated with the exceptional housekeeping staff to move us from the noisy second floor room to the sixth floor half-way through our stay. The second floor room did provide a star-studded fireworks display for new year's celebrations however! The hotel is showing age, sliding patio door barely latched, but we weren't looking for luxury, just a landing place for adventures with family. Highly recommend and will return.

We needed a place to stay for two weeks while we visited our kids and grandkids in Honolulu, near Waikiki. We wanted something simple and inexpensive but clean and comfortable (we didn't want a fancy, large hotel), and having free off-street parking was really important. Paniolo was perfect for us! Rene was warm and welcoming after our long trip from Philly, and continued to be attentive and helpful throughout our stay. There's a sweet little cafe/bar on the first floor where you can stay to have breakfast or grab some coffee, and which becomes a lively little bar at night. The parking situation is kind of an adventure (there are a limited number of spaces in the hotel's parking lot, but if you miss them, you can park in the adjacent parking garage, but someone has to let you in and out)--but Clarence and Wayne were incredibly friendly and helpful and we never had a problem. Julia, one of the baristas, was so sweet and accommodating that we wanted to adopt her. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room since we were visiting family, but it was clean and comfortable with good TV and wifi reception. There is some noise from the street (it's Waikiki after all), but with the air conditioning on, we slept well. We will stay at the Paniolo whenever we come to visit our kids. Many thanks for a great visit!

I had a chance to spend two nights at the Paniolo. Check-in was straightforward and simple, and the staff was very accommodating with regard to parking - there was none left in the small free lot under the hotel, so they gained access for me to a neighboring building's garage, and I was able to park without issue and at no charge. On my second night, I returned around 7pm and had no trouble finding parking in the attached lot. My room was simple but clean and had a small balcony; I was high up enough to have a little bit of a glimpse of the ocean. The lobby bar was quintessential Hawaii: laid back, with a mix of locals and tourists.

The location of this property is great: steps to Ala Moana Center and Ala Moana Park, and almost adjacent to the Ala Wai Promenada at the west end of Waikiki. For the price you can't beat it!

Great position for Honolulu and Waikiki. We are mid 60’s travellers and found the hotel great for us to walk both to Diamond Head and Down Town Honolulu.
Easy checkin. The room had all it said it had. Our room was near the front so a little noisy but nothing we couldn’t handle. Staff mostly very friendly and helpful. I think the room might have benefitted from a little more attention when being cleaned especially in the bathroom, also the bottom sheet on the bed never covered the mattress! We had a great breakfast in the bar area on the last day.
All in all a great little place to stay.

After an exhausting day of hiking, Chad at the Paniolo was really able to help me relax. Kept the cocktails just the way I liked them, I like whiskey so being in Hawaii I was expecting not too many people to assist with rum drinks. Chad also provided great local advice on places to go and things to see. After my time here, I traveled to North Shore but I really missed this cute, fun spot in Waikiki.

If you want to be laxed, chill and feel the locals welcoming you with Aloha, stay there!

First thing when we checked in, aunty Renee welcomed us with smiles but with fast service so we can check into the room knowing we were exhausted that day. Elevator was surprisingly fast too. It would of been irritating if it was slow cause we were on the top floor.

Anyway, once in the room, everything looked excellent! Love the vintage look in the room. If you’re into horses you will like the artworks as well. You will find that they actually do have Equus horse ride close to Kaena Point State Park. You will learn a lot of local things to do here. Just ask nicely and everyone will be happy answer your questions.

Waikiki is great place to be and its close to everything but if you have rented a car, do a loop around the Island and you will find some beautiful surprises.🤩

After check-in, we went down for our comp drinks and OMG! Fun fun fun. I will let you figure that out for yourselves. But I can tell you that Chad is an excellent bartender he will take very good care of you and make you feel like you’ve known him all your life. And everyone that he introduces you to are absolutely good people too.

Not many hotels have a nice little breakfast/lunch/bar open every day for an affordable price for drinks and food. Ooohhh…Try the onion apple grill cheese also. Chad had recommended it to us and made it for us as we enjoyed our good drinks.

Chad, Renee, Barry, Wanye thank you very much for making us feel comfortable there. We will come visit again even if its just to hello for few drinks. And I will Definitely will tell my friends from mainland about our stay as well!

Aloha and Mahalo!
Tash&Mike

This hotel was exactly what they advertised. The room was clean and the staff was kind. Parking is a bit tight but they have valet parking. The location is close to Waikiki Beach and many restaurants are in walking distance.

Everyone was delightful (though especially Rene, I must say;). Staff gave us tips on local attractions, and offered mats, chairs, beach towels and even boogie boards for our trips to the beach. The room was clean, pleasant, and quiet, too: a real treat with the easy proximity to both Ala Moana Center and Waikiki.
Do ask about any extra charges when you book, such as parking and resort fees. Even with those rolled in, it still ended up a much more economical choice than any of the beachside hotels would have been, and the beach isn't far away.

Mahalo!

This boutique hotel had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It is centrally located so we were able to walk many places without having to use our rental car. We made the mistake of upgrading our rental car (at no extra charge) to a Chevy Tahoe because our original preference was not ready. Smaller vehicles are easier to maneuver in Honolulu. However, through Airbnb, our parking was complimentary (most places charge about $30 for parking). Kolette was wonderful and gave us many local tips on places to see and eat. While this is an older hotel, it was clean and comfortable and well priced for hotel in downtown Honolulu.

The beach is across the road about 10 minutes walk. Yes it is a safe swimming beach. You can hire stuff at the beach don’t know the cost. I don’t think they hire at the hotel

Our room had a walk-in shower. We had a microwave and a small refrigerator but that was all we had in our room. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance. We truly enjoyed our stay and when we go back to Hawaii will probably stay there again.
