Perfect for a long stay and plenty of light and fresh air, laundry machines were always broken or busy, but there were plenty of places nearby. It's also a very short walk to the beach and any place you may want to go. The weekly parking rate is reasonable and the staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms could use a deep clean, but overall was pleasantly surprised by the value.
From the moment we checked in until the time we checked out, the accommodations were fantastic. Our late check in was efficient, and had us in our room with minimal effort. The location was great... essentially a block away from our favorite section of Waikiki Beach (the protected area). The pool/ recreation deck was a nice place to retreat to after a day at the beach. While the hotel is not new, the room appeared to be nicely refreshed, and the kitchen was stocked with everything that we needed. The A/C unit appeared to be newer, and worked well. The bathroom was very clean, and had everything we needed. The water pressure in the shower was a little low, but I suspect that had more to do with mandated water savings equipment/equipment design than the hotel itself. Our bed was really comfortable, and I would have gladly taken it home with me. The internet speed was impressive... I measured it...over 300mbps... faster than what I have at home! We were in a city view room, and had a nice partial view of the ocean as well (from the 27th floor). The front desk staff (each and every one of them) were professional, friendly, and went over and above to accommodate us. We checked out on Dec 21st, only to have our flight cancelled later that day. The front desk staff were able to get us set up with a room for the night, and we really, really appreciated that. As it turns out we were able to stay in the same room we had for the rest of our stay. We were very satisfied with the housekeeping/housekeeping frequency. I would like to point out that our booking was with the hotel itself, as opposed to Airbnb/ private owner. Before booking I did notice some unfavorable reviews, and based on the contents of those reviews I suspect many of them pertained to Airbnb/private units. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and I will be recommending the Waikiki Banyan to friends, colleagues, and family. Thank you …
Good Hospitality, Clean rooms, Good size rooms, Close to the ocean, Friendly staff , Parking deck, Clean pool, Clean jacuzzi, Clean grills and security all the time on the property, Clean elevators Thank you
First off, let me start by saying that I tried my best to like this hotel. There was a nice big refrigerator in the kitchen and an HDMI cable in the TV console, which was helpful for watching streaming services. Here's where the negatives start: There was a big gash in the chair in our room, as well as stains on the others. We slept on a squeaky trundle bed that smelled dusty, despite booking a room with two queen beds online. The hotel staff said room configuration is not guaranteed but they did offer a roll out bed as a remedy. The two main positives of this hotel were the friendly, helpful staff and the proximity to Waikiki Beach. However, the hotel, like many lower-priced hotels on O'ahu, hasn't been updated since the 70's. The furniture was old, dusty and outdated. If it weren't for the helpful staff, I would have thought we were staying at a motel 6.Especially since on the last night, one of the guests in the elevator smelled like straight up pee. Do yourself a favor and if you can, stay at a slightly newer hotel.…
We only stayed overnight but it was a nice stay. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and the ocean view was great. We will be staying here again in the future. It’s close to town with lots of places to eat nearby.
Would not recommend! Room not updated. Room not maintained old carpet, old baseboards, old drapes. Were told we were getting a king size bed at arrival and was not, were told nothing else was available upon arrival. The view was amazing! Cleaning service was good
Waikiki Banyan is like a home to me! Back in the mid 80's Ive stayed at the Waikiki Banyan every weekend. Excellent location, rates, convenience, spacious, clean, friendly staff, view. Missed an opportunity to buy a unit. It's great value and if prices are reasonable, I will still consider to buy a unit.
The rooms are nothing like the pictures. They are filthy. The tan color carpet was filled with black stains. The mattress in the room was sagging. I had to look at several rooms just to find one that I could stay in. The fees were nonrefundable so I did not have enough money to stay somewhere else. I had to buy sheets and a blanket to cover over the bed because I didn't trust sleeping on their dirty linens. I cannot express how disappointing and disgusting it was. All of the rooms were not updated. The pictures must be from 20 years ago. I had stayed here 25 years ago and it was nice then. So disappointing. The staff Cliff and Doug were very nice and did their best to help me find a room that was semi descent enough to stay in. I would rate this place a 1/5 only because the staff were very nice. …
We recently returned from an extended stay at the Banyan. Unfortunately, it appears that Aston has absolutely no minimum standards for owners who put their units into their rental pool. As our trip was part of a package arranged through our credit card’s travel agency, we had no input or preview of the unit we were assigned. The initial unit we were given was absolutely disgusting. The carpets and draperies were dirty and stained. Drawers in the bedroom’s dresser were falling out and the mattress was as hard as a slab of cement. A sliding door in the bathroom between the sink and the toilet stuck so anyone unfortunate to close it had to be rescued from the outside. The refrigerator in the kitchen looked like it had been rescued from the city dump. Because it was late when we checked in, we did not approach the front desk until the following morning. We were told we could move but the room would not be ready until mid afternoon. When we checked back that afternoon, we were told we were going to be “upgraded” to a unit with an ocean view and were given a key so we could check it out. On our initial look, it appeared so much better than the first unit so we accepted the change. It wasn’t until we were settled in that we found many issues with this suite as well. The “kitchen” consisted of a 2-burner cook top, a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and a few utensils but no stove. We opted for a condo because of the length of time we were staying and the fact we wanted to prepare a lot of our meals. Having no stove and oven made preparing food a real challenge. Both the toaster and can opener (one of the very few utensils provided) were broken and had to be exchanged. The cupboards were dusty and sticky and obviously hadn’t been cleaned in some time. In the living room, the long curtain covering the sliding door to the lanai was missing its draw cord and part of the drapes had been damaged and were falling off the rod. We had someone from maintenance come to reattach the drapes as best as possible but they soon started falling off again. The wall and picture across from this door and the air conditioner were covered in large lumps of dust. The carpet, which was in the living room and bedroom, was grubby and worn. The mattress in the bedroom was only slightly better than the one in the first unit. It should have been replaced a long time ago and, in an effort to make it softer, a foam pad had been placed on top with little success. By the end of the stay, both of us were extremely stiff and sore and I occasionally had to resort to catching a few hours on the living room couch. There was a mould-like substance in the corner of the tub/shower combo. There was so much dirt in the bathroom’s exhaust fan that it started to fall down on the toilet and floor. Once again, we had maintenance clean it but they didn’t clean the interior workings of the fan so we still got some dirt falling out. The two louvred doors to the room were covered in dust and hadn’t been cleaned anytime in recent history. All the baseboards and casing were dirty and scuffed. Overall, the suite was very outdated and in serious need of a major overhaul. In retrospect, we should have complained again to the front desk to see if we could move again. There is a $29+ US/day “amenity” fee which according to their literature includes: - Unlimited wireless in-room internet access (the speed and reliability were good) - In-room coffee and tea provided daily (we did not use the coffee daily and got more packets upon request but we never received any additional tea) - Daily newspaper (except Saturday) - In-room safe - Free local and toll-free calls (there were two landlines in the unit of which only one worked) - DVD rentals There was also access to the pool and hot tubs plus available beach towels at no charge. On the recreation level there were also several timer-operated electric barbecues available. They are coin-operated and cost $2/hour. One washer and dryer were situated on each level at a cost of $2.50/appliance. No soap for purchase but there is a small convenient store on the main level. There is an on-site parking garage which is also open to the public. We didn’t use the garage so cannot comment on availability of space. The cost to guests is $30/day. We stayed in Tower 2 where there were 4 elevators, one of which was out of service the whole time we were there. These elevators are also used by housekeeping, maintenance and other workers and in most cases, there was quite a wait for one to arrive whether you were on the main floor or the floor of your unit. There is a serious need for a separate service elevator. Tip - leave yourself plenty of time if there is somewhere you need to be. On a positive note, all staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The location is good being about a 5 minute walk to the beach. It is also close to the Zoo, shopping and many restaurants. A large number of the units within the complex are not handled by Aston but by other rental platforms such as AirBnB. Looking through the doors into other units, we could see that there is a wide range in the quality of units. A person would have much better control and be able to see the suites online through use of these other platforms but I would never recommend renting through Aston.…
Stayed here for a one night layover after Maui, before our flight home. An average tidy room, a bit dated but with great views and proactive friendly service. It was close enough to the main Waikiki spots which were about a block or two away.
