Stayed here with my significant other in February 2006. It took awhile to find, being off the main drag, but was worth getting lost for.

We booked late and it was a little bit of a hassle when we got there (1.30am Saturday), but eventually they sorted us out with a garden room, which was kind of rundown and had two single beds instead of the double they said they could give us.

The subsequent nights were better as they moved us to a beachfront suite which was everything you'd expect from a beach bungalow - light & airy, little timber deck, banana chairs etc.

Breakfast was included and was pretty extensive, the beach was quiet and private, the restaurant had excellent food and the staff were really helpful. We had a car, so it was easy to get into Jomtien.

It's better to book online - at least 500bt cheaper online. We paid about 3500 per night for the room.

Great Resort, about 15kms from Pattaya, if you are into the Nightlife scene, this is not for you. If you won't a beautiful Beach, quite laid back. Excellent choice. Make sure you pick a Bungalow on the beach front, these are a little more expensive but you will be kicking yourself if you dont take one. Beaches clean to swim, not the same as Pattaya. Excellent food at the Restraunt, we even had dinner one night on our deck of our Bungalow, the staff brought everything down to our room.
You will enjoy.......

Very quiet place. Nice timber bungalows well maintained and cleaned. Staff great, food very nice and reasonably priced.
Pool beautiful and clean, bungalows nicely spread out and all are fairly close to the beach.
Taxi to town or back was 500 baht one way. One mini mart within walking is distance good for stocking up on drinks and water. A couple of restaurants about 1 km along the beach were good too.
We did cycling, excursion and etc.

My friends and I booked this hotel for 2 nights for a short getaway from Bangkok. The hotel looks nice from the website photos but the reality is very poor. The hotel is in bad condition as it is shabby and not well looked after.
The rooms are old, dirty and uncomfortable. For example, ants in the bath, stains on the coffee-making spoons (not cleaned properly) and there was scummy water left in the kettle which made me not want to make a coffee.
The pools are run down don’t look very clean. The ‘crystal dip’ pool was dirty and there were many insects roaming the surrounding decks. There were holes in the wooden decking and I saw a person fall through the decking. I have included photos to prove this. Furthermore, there is an exposed pump/filter (see photo) at the beach-side pool which looked very scruffy and not clean. We felt unhappy to use the pool as it didn’t look very clean.
The breakfast was fine as there was a variety. Staff are generally friendly and polite but not very proactive. They told us they would send a golf cart to pick up luggage from the car and bring it to the room. We waited 10-15 mins they never turned up so we did it ourselves.
After we checked in once we saw the state of room and hotel facilities we shared our disappointment with the reception. They offered to upgrade us to beach side rooms but we would have to pay extra. I was surprised by this as we were not willing to pay more when we were not happy in the first place.
We paid 2,500 baht for a garden view room and I don’t think it is worth the money. For this price in Thailand, you can expect a room/hotel of reasonable quality. I would expect this standard if I paid half of what I paid.
It is a quiet resort outside of the city with nice views of the sea. It is fine to stay here but don’t expect quality.

Two of my friends and I booked and stayed in their 2 bedroom Cosy Garden villa (503 and 504). For the price of almost thb 8500 i had expected a proper suite with a living room but it turned out to be a connecting room similar to the other single units. This was after a 20% discount that was offered by the reservationist when I called so I guess this is what they offer everyone.

The villa was built mostly of wood which were decaying all over. Beds were terribly soft and bathrooms were simply filthy! The shower had any water pressure and we had to bathe under light trickling water. On the second day, the taps ran dry in the morning and we could not wash up until mid morning! The phones in the room were not working and we were told to use our mobile phone to call for service.

The restaurant staff were friendly but food again as overpriced as the room. We ordered 3 tiger prawns that turned out to be simply medium size shrimps and were charged THB 180 for eac prawn!

Upon check we compliant to the manager who took off THB 1000 from the room charge but even then we felt shortchanged and dissatisfied. I have been to overpriced properties but this is extreme and worst of all a bad experience. Never again will we return nor recommend this to anyone. For the price we paid we could chosen a 5 star hotel downtown which we did not consider as we had some dogs with us which they allowed on the resort at price of THB 500 per dog per night. Very disappointing and unacceptable!

I just got back form this hotel today (sunday May 12th). I went there on saturday. I didn't expect anything from this hotel. But for what I got, it is lower than my expectation. With the money I spent, I could have gone to many 5 stars hotel. But the worst thing happen to me. I left the hotel for a dinner around 17:30. I put my bag on the bed which there was a macbook air in that bag too. I locked the room and went out for a dinner with my family. I came back around 20:30 and found out that the room was not lock. I went inside the room and found that my bag was gone. I called the reception and they did not seem to interest in it until my dad went to the lobby and call them to check the room. No one seem interest in it. I went to the police station then the police came. I asked to see if I can check the CCTV. But they said we cannot check the CCTV until tomorrow morning (sunday). The next morning, my dad went to see the CCTV. The staff ask him that did I really bring the bag. And they said things like how can we know you brought the back and you did not brought it out with you. Then my dad ask if they will take the responsibility or not. The staff said they can only take responsibility for the things that are in the safe... which obviously macbook is bigger than the safe! Then the manager said the only thing they can offer was a hotel voucher.. DUHHH!! why would I come back to this hotel?

p.s. my room was straightly across the lobby!

Response from Vinit C, General Manager at The Sunset Village Beach Resort
Responded 23 May 2013
Dear Khun Prewwai, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback relating to your recent visit. Your review in the Trip Advisor did take me by surprise, appearing only one day after you left our resort, considering that your dad, Khun Somsak, had agreed to allow me a few days to conduct the investigation. Nevertheless, I really regret what happened and especially as I had no chance to talk to you to explain our procedures and responsibility regarding this case. Khun Prewwai, please be assured that the management of the hotel take these matters very seriously, as we would also like to know what really happened that evening. We would never deny responsibility, if the results of the investigation turn out to be our fault. We have nothing to lose financially as we have insurance to cover these liabilities. We regard that safety of our guests as most important in this business but to blame our staff members and label them as thieves can also be very serious and could ruin the rest of their life and career, if we do not have any proof in the first place. The onus of proof still prevails in these matters. Kindly let me explain the procedures that we went through, which you may be unaware of. When we were informed by Khun Somsak that the MacBook in room 301 was missing after the family returned from having dinner outside of the resort, our Duty Manager and Personnel Manager were immediately on the scene and accompanied Khun Somsak to the police station. On their return to the resort and finding that the CCTV couldn’t replay, we immediately contacted the CCTV Company, who told us that they couldn’t send someone to the resort that night but will come in the morning, which they did. The CCTV was checked, together with Khun Somsak, our Personnel Manager and myself, but we couldn’t see anything, as the angle of the CCTV did not cover up to room 301. The Duty Manager and Personnel Manager also accompanied the police to investigate and question many of our staff members that night. During the conversation with Khun Somsak in the morning I also asked him for a few days to conduct the investigation of all our staff members concerned and this was to also include dormitory and house searches. This he agreed. I even offered Khun Somsak a hotel voucher to come back but somehow was misunderstood as being compensation. Please be informed that the questioning on bringing the bag to the resort is normal procedure, as there were similar cases where guests have found their ‘missing’ belongings when they arrived home. However in your case the CCTV did show that you carried it with you during your arrival at the hotel. Unfortunately it can’t be displayed when you left for dinner as your car was blocking it. After the incident we tried contacting your dad, Khun Somsak, several times for his email address, to send our completed report of the incident but he would like to wait for the police report, which never showed up after that night. We have even tried to call them many times to no avail. Last but not least, Sunset Village Beach Resort has been operating, with a good reputation for more than 25 years and we will never turn our backs and act irresponsibly to any of our guests. With best regards, Vinit Chidchanognarth Group General Manager Sunset Group Thailand

We booked a seaview beachfront 'beach superior' but we were placed in a bungalow next to the reception. It has a label 'beach superior' in front of the room but it doesn't fit the description posted and advertised by the resort. This is simply cheating!

Staff are friendly and service is great. Cozy cottages and family huts could do with refurbishment and was disappointed on arrival that internet booking from hotel website for 2 + 2 for cozy cottage was not possible so family of 4 needed to double costs for family cottage. However, the site is great with quite beach, swimming pool and dipping pool plus well maintained gardens. Very peaceful stay and our well behaved dog loved the experience and was made most welcome - a treat when trying to escape Bangkok life. 550 Baht per night for dog. Will definitely return to this haven of peace and freedom with good internet.

Choices are fairly limited in Thailand to find something decent by the beach which accepts our pet dog and happy to say Sunset Village is one of them. Having said there are some restrictions such as no pets in the pool or restaurant areas, which is the way it should be. This a solid 3 star resort with an overall rustic appearance with a nice safe beach. The menu has an extensive choice of western and thai food and I must say the thai food quality was excellent overall. This resort is well out of the way between Pattaya and Bang Saray with no local markets or shops close by so you can either can get the resort shuttle into town or ask reception to call you a taxi. The only complaint is there is no in house spa or massage service so if you want one reception will call a masseuse from outside for 1000 THB - no thanks. Overall well priced and a nice stay especially as a dog owner and will return again sometime in the future.

Went there for 4 nights last week in Feb. Very remote but quiet. You are unable to find nearby shops as too far to main road. You can walk a mile along the beach when tide out to get to another restaurant. Room fine. Breakfast ok. Staff very good. Beach where chalets are not so good but better further on but got to watch tide times. Food in restaurant bit pricy. Thought prices for overnight stay bit steep at about £84.
