The staff is not unfriendly, but you have to understand that the Dutch tend to keep to themselves---it's not like America where salespeople endlessly follow you around asking if you need help. It was nice to be left alone to enjoy myself. the rooms were a little small, but they certainly had everything we could want (fridge, 2 chairs, closet,...

The downside of the hotel is that the staff are quite unfriendly, sometimes it feels as if they are being sarcastic with you and that you’re a bit of an annoyance to them, in fact the only time they smiled or were affable was when we paid ! They also have ‘door closers’ on the bedroom doors which people let...

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in May 2006. I was happy with the price range and the location but there were some unpleasant experiences as well. When I phoned to make the reservation for a single room for 2 nights, I mentioned I would be arriving shortly before 10 PM. They gave me a room with several beds,...

Firstly I concur with the previous reviews....... The location terrific, dated rooms and paper thin walls. In a single I was moved to, you have to be quite flexible to use the w.c. I'm only 5'8". The attitude of the 'land lady' was rude to say the least, unwilling to assist with request to exit from hotel before 7am as...

Stayed 1 night before taking the morning ferry to the islands. Indifferent welcome - we were rather made to feel that we had disturbed the staff, who were having their supper in the main dining room. After starting to climb very steep stairs to third floor (no lift) with heavy suitcases, someone did finally appear and took the luggage for...

We recently spent 3 nights at the Zeezicht. It is in a lovely position beside the harbour where we watched numerous sailing boats coming in and out all day requiring the bridges beside us to be raised and lowered continuously. we also watched the ferries to the Frisian Islands come and go regularly. The hotel has character and the family who...

A well situated hotel right on the harbour in a charming town. Th ehotel was clean and reasonably comfortable. However the wall are very thin and we were kept awake most of the night by the snorer in the next room. The staff were abit indifferent and not too understanding when the toaster was used incorrectly and all th einstructions...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht is situated at the old inland area in Harlingen just across from the Ferry point where the boats to Vlieland and Terschelling depart. The hotel has the inland and the sea at one side and on the other side, it is situated beside the historical Elfsteden (11 cities) town of Harlingen. Harlingen is an old city of commerce that did very well during the golden age. This is noticeable by the number of beautiful old homes to be found within the city. Since June 2009, the Wadden Sea became an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is equated with famous nature reserves such as Yellowstone Park in the United States and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. On the roof of the Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht are solar panels thus all the electricity used in our business comes from a natural source so we try to contribute to the environment as much as possible. Hotel Zeezicht was opened in 1905 and served as a guesthouse for the many ships’ crews that passed through Harlingen Haven. In 1983 the Hotel Zeezicht and Restaurant expanded by joining with the adjacent monumental building “The Sea Castle” of Harlingen. The “Sea Castle” has a long history in Harlingen and played an important role in the development of the city. During the golden age a notable society club called “Seeburgh” was established at “The Sea Castle”. “The Sea Castle” was only accessible to dignitaries and was inspected by a strict high commission. The society discussed important decisions concerning Harlingen. Nowadays, everyone is welcome at “Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht.” ... more   less
