After cycling 70km down from the Mountains of Serra da Estrela, we stopped for the night and a welcomed dinner. Pure Magic especially when one has been on the road for a number of hours. The place is in a brilliant setting. The place is romantic. The place has masses of character. The place is full of history. Both at...

The restaurant was a sublime experience, with great and discreet service. I never had to ask for anything. The food was great and beautiful. And the view is just spectacular. Truly a slice of heaven. I only hope I get the chance to return!

Lovely, spacious retreat at the end of a tiny village, adjacent to sera estela. Extremely quiet, restful. - at least at this time of year. We were treated well at dinner which was delicious- wild mushrooms, prawn, and a yummy local tinto.

Our room Octavio had a dreadful strong mouldy smell that did not dissipate despite leaving window open and air conditioner running for 2 days. I have no idea why we would have been given such a dreadful room when the hotel did not appear to be fully booked. We received a discount when booking through booking.com and can only assume...

Hotel Pousada Do Convento is a beautiful boutique hotel built into an existing pousada, or convent located hilltop high over the town of Belmonte. The bedrooms are all located in a modern annex, built to replicate the convent. Rooms are large and spacious, furnished in a modern-rustic style appropriate to the location. The common rooms and dining room are beautifully...

Nice Hotel located in old monastery, comfortable modern rooms, clean, very good breakfast. The hotel preserves the monastery atmosphere without sacrificing its modern amenities Only drawback is the lack of elevator as we had to drag our luggage over the stairs but as the monks at older times did the same without elevators we did it with a smile.

This is a very special place to stay when in this region of Portugal. Our room is very large and comfortable. There are rooms on two floors and no elevator but there are bellmen to deliver bags. The Pousada is artistically furnished and decorated. Can't wait to see the view when we wake as we arrived in the dark. The...

We stayed for one night on our trip from Porto to Evora. The original convent has been rather dwarfed by the modern additions but the rooms are well laid out with nice views over the valley although the access is via a very dark hallway. We ate at the in-house restaurant and thought both the food and service to be...

Seriously - if your GPS cannot find coordinates (or, like me, you can't figure that one out) just arrive in Belmonte and there are numerous and obvious signs (blue) to get you to the Pousada at the top of the hill. Dating back to the 18th Century, the main building is a combination of beautifully and tastefully restored public spaces...

Set on the slopes of the Esperança Mountain, at just over 1 km from the town of Belmonte, the birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the Pousada Convento de Belmonte results from the renovation of the former Nossa Senhora da Esperança Convent dated 13th Century.Inside, the chapel and sacristy have been converted into a lounge and bar a good example of the harmonious blend of historical architecture and modern construction and comfort. The Pousada hotel has preserved the Monastery’s heritage intact, included amphitheatre architecture layout in the pine woods on the slopes of Esperança Mountain, and stunning landscape with views over the Cova da Beira region and Estrela’s Mountain.
