This farm is over a mile off the wall which does not matter because the guy that runs it will come and collect you and drop you back which is a great service. The food in the evening and also the breakfast is absolutely lovely. You have a great big lounge to sit in, a lovely bright room to have... More

This was our halfway stopover for my husband and myself while walking Hadrian's Wall. It wasn't the most luxurious or the slickest place we stayed in during our 10 days, but it was easily our favourite. Perhaps it helped that it coincided with our favourite bit of the walk - the middle section - and that it was wonderful weather... More

Gourmet food, comfortable bed, very entertaining host in the middle of nowhere. Everyone was very accommodating, we enjoyed talking with Sean. Hikeable from Steel Rigg car park, or hosts will pick you up in a van and drop you back at the wall in the morning. Exceptionally delicious food!

We stayed here during our 84 mile hike of the Hadrians Wall Path. This is in such a great setting in view of the wall and not far from the path itself (although we were kindly picked up by Sean – he also dropped us back on the path the next morning). Clean and comfortable rooms. We also ate dinner... More

About a mile off the Pennine Way and Hadrian's Wall in an area where there are few places to stay. Lovely breakfast and evening meal. I opted for pancakes, bacon and maple syrup which was delicious. Room rather cramped due to a sort of four poster bed - posts and supports but no curtains. Bed could have been more comfortable.... More

This is a walkers guesthouse. What it lacks in refinement it makes up for in enthusiasm. The food is very good (both dinner and breakfast). Sean at the front of house is great he does a bit of everything in his own slightly chaotic manner but one of the best bits is that he will pick you up from Steel... More

I hate writing a mixed review but our stay was very mixed indeed. We arrived cold and damp after spending the afternoon walking through unseasonable hail. They have a drying room for wet stuff (good) but it's neither big nor warm enough so our stuff was still damp next morning (not good). The heating in our room took a good... More

We had the best time at Saughy Rigg, 28 family members across the generations to celebrate 3 separate 50th birthdays. We took the whole house and self catered, taking advantage of the full commercial kitchen and bar fridges. It's remote so don't expect to pop out to the shops every 5 minutes, but set in a fabulous historical place, you... More

Ok it could be tidier, ok it could be more structured and organized but this is a truly unique place both for location and atmosphere. Do not miss dinner, it is cheap and veeery good and well presented. Breakfast is good with a rich hot option of your choice. Packed lunch also good and convenient. The man host is really... More

As soon as I stepped in to Saughy Rigg farm I felt at home. A real family run business and we were made to feel welcome. Drying room for boots and walking gear, then Sean served us with a hot mug of tea and cake. Greatly appreciated after a long day walking Hadrian's Wall. Our room was fantastic with a... More
