I stayed here because I researched the history and the stories of this old Hotel. There is not dispute she is an old Lady and she has seen plenty - but this is what she is nothing more and nothing less. I read the other reviews of people putting the place down and this is no fault of the Hotel....

It looks like the best time for this hotel is gone. In general the place is good and I believe that sometime ago there was nice place to stay. But today it can be taken only in case you don't have any alternative. It could be very attractive hotel in case the owners would maintain surroundings and also invest in...

The hotel looks very old and the pictures are deceiving. The garden area didn't seem to be maintained very well. The hotel looks scary, so if you have a things about scary looking places, then this is not place for you. The staff are friendly though. The rooms are tiny and don't have air-conditioning or fans. we had to open...

Horrific, old falling to bits hotel, mould in the rooms, door handles not put on right, Windows that wouldn't close or lock, looked more like a scooby doo set than a hotel worst hotel I've stayed in anywhere in the world, showing its age unlike the booking.com or expedia photos this place needs a major rennovation. AVOID!

Stayed a night at the hotel, which in its day must have been a very impressive place - however now is a need of a make over. However in saying that it was clean and comfortable, the staff were very obliging and knowledgeable. The public rooms were in better condition than the room that we had, but it was all...

The property is definitely showing its age and one expected to find Miss Marple lurking in the corridors. This however possibly lends to its charm. It is a great location from which to visit the Caves The highlight is definitely the restaurant which provided a great seafood menu with excellent service

We drove here from Auckland, it wasn't very busy and we got a parking space easy. There didn't seem to be much parking but there may be more areas if gets busy. The hotel is old, but that didn't bother us. We were only there for one night and it was lovely and all that we needed. 10 minutes walk...

The bad: The hotel is over 100 years old, which is cool. Unfortunately, I don't think it's been renovated in that entire time. The rooms are decorated with wall paper that is peeling. Wait, let me just list the issues it will be faster: 1. Old, yellowing and peeling wallpaper. 2. Holes in those walls fixed with drywall, but then...

We appreciate you taking the time to post a review on our historic hotel. Yes it is certainly old - one of the oldest in New Zealand. I'm sorry to hear that aspects of your stay fell below your expectations. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment programme but these things do take time. In the meantime we strive for 100%...

Beautiful old hotel, breakfast in the dining room was very nice, however the standard room was very small I would recommend getting a bigger room. Staff were lovely and they are in the process of doing it up.

Thank you for your review on our hotel. The Standard Room are small but have been refurbished recently and offer great value for money for one night. They are our entry level room type. We agree with your recommendation of getting a different room type if you are after more spacious accommodation. Great to hear you enjoyed your breakfast and...

This hotel is really not fit for purpose! ripped wall paper, patched holes in the ceiling, missing lamp shades, it needs a total revamp! The restaurant is also terrible, waited ages for our food which was of very poor quality and very over priced. I honestly can't believe that the owners think it is ok to let out rooms in that...

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us. We are aware the hotel needs attention in some areas and we are remedying this. We have already considerably updated the public areas and some bedrooms. Refurbishing such a historic building is not without its challenges...
