The hotel is great in general, nice and simple architectural style with lush landscape that creates a very chill and relax environment. Room is large with very innovative bathroom-bedroom walkthrough separated by a sliding door. It’s a romantic hotel and perfect for those that wants a quiet environment.

On the con side, there are rooms of improvement as below:

1) The door handle of balcony sliding door was very loose when I check in. Called operator and the response was fast to rectify but I do feel it is better to check the room is in order before allowing guest in as the rectification took about 20-25mins which we were waiting there.

2) There are limited equipments in the gym and not much weight choices for the dumbbell. For protection of the floor finishes, there should be a mat at the weight area.

3) There are flies and crows at the bungalow (outside seats) where the breakfast are served though I think it is due to the beach just outside the hotel.

Anyway, we enjoy our stay here and my wife like the wide variety of breakfast choices (The char koay teow at the noodle station is great and must try).

I have just had a 7 night stay at Lone Pine for a holiday. I love the heritage listed buildings and the old world charm. The rooms are spacious with all amenities included. Breakfast is fresh and has quite a good selection of Asian and Western food. The hotel is in a great location on the beach with Massage and water sports on offer, it is very close to the night markets where you can have food, massages and shopping. The swimming pool is lovely and has plenty of chairs for relaxing. Food and beverages are well priced and on offer at the pool, in the restaurant and room service.
Any issues we had were promptly rectified. Good value for the money.
The only con I have is for the thin curtains in the room and the chair covers in the dining room to be washed more often. Since it was such a small issue I did not address it as I am aware that there are a lot of alterations and improvements going on.
I would also like to say that Jeremy M from the bar is an exceptional staff member and an asset to your hotel, thanks Jezza for everything you helped us with.

I have had heard a number of hotel horror story post MCO. I read there was a place in Genting where the hotel guest had to clean after the previous occupant in order to stay in the room. It seems that a number of hotels in Malaysia aren’t ready to receiev guest post MCO.

I was worried and skeptical how Lone Pine would handle this. I was pleasantly surprised that my stay was alright without any major incident.

The good
Rooms are clean, bedsheets are impeccable.
The staff was amazing

The bad
Breakfast was so not worth it. They shrunk the menu down. They used to have fried char kueh teow and that was no longer available. They also charge RM40 (I think) for breakfast per person and it is so not worth it. Here is my tip ; you are better off having breakfast at the mamak or McDonalds across the road… at least here food is fresher and taste better.

Overall I was not angry with my 4 nights there, I paid a premium because my booking that was paid in full was done in 2019 so It was preCovid price.... my booking was initially meant for March which was then deferred to August. If I had made my booking in 2020, I would’ve been paying around RM500 less of what I paid in 2019. Sigh oh well.

Tip:

Skip the food at this place, there are plenty of food option nearby. The Umi nasi campur across the street is good place for lunch.

The koptiam next to hotel serves good food too. Open for dinner from 6pm onwards, closes on Wednesday.

Take the super deluxe room if there are 3 adults staying, the daybed is comfortable enough for a night bed.

Dear CE123, Tnak you for sharing with us here. We are pleased first of all you did not face the horrible stories you may have read from other places and glad we performed well for you. In regards of the breakfast with the restriction in place we provide an a la carte buffet style with continuous replenishment of freshly cooked dishes, for the char kway teow it is one of our main dish and favourite at our breakfast and sincerely regret you did not approached us to assist you immediately , it is always difficult after the visit to find out more about the incident not having all teh facts on hand, sincere apologies for any discomfort we may have caused. Next time you visit us do let us know , no offence to fast food place but do sincerely believe our local food fair is not only tastier but also healthier ;-)) Have a wonderful weekend ahead , and stay safe Sincerely Francois

This is my first staycation at Lone Pine with the family and it was a splendid stay. We really enjoyed the vacation and the staffs are really friendly and we even received a free upgrade of room - so that was really surprising. Breakfast was also really good and generally the facility was amazing.

My only comments for further improvements for your consideration:
1. Bath tub at the balcony needs to be slightly cleaner. We did not use it in the end as we have a 17 months old with us and had to ensure it has to be genuinely clean.
2. Dinner @ The Bungalow was slightly disappointing. The Seafood Platter (I cannot recall the actual menu name) was too salty. It looked liked the food was grilled and dressed with only one specific sauce which was quite "boring" and it made all the various seafood taste alike. The Fried Rice was OK.

Other than that everything was good. We will definitely look to return on our next staycation when we are in Batu Feringghi area!

Due to current travel restrictions the hotel is empty: only 3 rooms were occupied. It is also undergoing renovation, bringing a lot of dust, noise and inconvenience. The swimming pool is closed. Breakfast is very modest and the restaurant is closed by 3.00 pm. The hotel staff, however, is very professional and helpful.

Dear Olex_KL, Thank you so much for your good score and apologise for any disturbances caused by the maintenance improvement program which took place to assure we continuously improve our facilities for our gusts comfort. We do our very best to keep disturbances to its minimum. In regards of breakfast we offer an a la carte menu buffet style , with your can eat as much as you wish instead of a full buffet to follow the CMCO restrictions. Regrettably during this CMCO to sustain our business we have to do some difficult choices. We look forward to welcome you back and provide you a more memorable time with us in our upgraded facilities. Have a wonderful time ahead and stay safe Sincerely, Francois

Let me start by saying this is a lovely hotel, right on the beach. An ok,beach. Our room was very nice and the main hotel building looked newly renovated. The downside was the Bungalow, where a fairly poor breakfast was served. This area needs to be seriously overhauled. It’s a shambles, and as nice as the staff were, they never had a clue. The other gripe, was the loungers. Time they were replaced, and please stop people”reserving” the beds at 8 O’clock in the morning, and in some cases not returning till hours later

We first stayed at the Lone Line two years ago, just after the installation of the new GM Franscois.
At that time he shared his plans to renovate the hotel to its former glory.
So after two years how did he do? The rooms, all f which have sea views have been renovated to a high standard, are spacious but lack sufficient hanging storage space for clothes.
The swimming pool is tiled in dark brown tiles which are not attractive and uncomfortable to walk on. We have received an email from Francois that the renovation of the pool will shortly take place.
The buffet breakfast was very good with a wide range of international dishes, and a station where eggs etc are cooked to order. There was adverse comment that on the Japanese station, the fish was uncovered and attracted flies, a simple remedy but no action taken.
We attended a BBQ evening at the hotel restaurant, frankly it was very poor haphazard the carvers had to be prompted to serve reasonable size portions and most guests had to make multiple visits to satisfy the most modest of appetites .
To be honest almost all of the guests eat street food from the hawker centre 200 metres from the hotel, it's a pity, oh the excellent Japanese restaurant of two years ago is closed.
Service was very inconsistent, on entering the restaurant for breakfast the main aim of the staff was to establish your room number, although from the hotels point of view this is important, from a customer of more importance would be taken to a table and orders for tea or coffee taken.
The room was serviced in the late afternoon, but sometimes the wet towels were replace other times not. The bath robes were often missing, or the ones replaced without belts/ties. This just shows a lack of attention to detail.
One evening we asked room service for a bucket of ice, after 30 minute the ice had not arrived, so another order was placed. again after 125 minutes no ice, so I had to go to the bar, borrow a bucket and take my own ice. Not top notch service.
However, a real plus point is the friendliness of the staff, totally wonderful, not well trained not disciplined but a delight, well done Lone Pine.

We had a great stay at this hotel. Our room was fabulous, clean, comfy queen sized bed, large bathroom, great shower. We had a sea facing room with a bath on the balcony, which was great for relaxing in after a day by the pool or on the beach. breakfast was lovely with an omelette/egg station and plenty of choice including gluten free bread for me. We only ate at the hotel restaurant in the evening once but it was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The evening markets outside the hotel are worth a visit as is the hawker centre for delicious local food choices. The bar next door is worth a visit they have a great menu and you can have a few drinks while listening to good music.

Stayed here before and the ladt was about two years back. Returned to stay here with our family for a break after COVID Lockdown has been unlocked. We had a room facing the sea from the side windows and facing the swimming pool from the varendah. The room is fabulous. Clean and comfortable, big bath room. The breakfast choice of food is toned down due to less guests but served nice nasi lemak, fried noodles, sausages and hams, fried eggs, pastries and beverages. Good coffee as well. SOP on hygienic practices observed which is good safety practice too. The main pool is 1.4m deep and massage pool and children's pools are children friendly. Good and relaxing stay and enjoyable warmth from the staffs. Attentive and friendly services. Good break and enjoyable three days two nights stay. Cheers.

Arrived at the hotel on a Thursday evening after a long drive and was immediately calmed by the serene environment at Lone Pine. The breeze, the birds chirping, and the beautiful landscape of the hotel were welcoming. Stayed in a few hotels, airbnb during this pandemic season and have to say that Lone Pine was the most pleasant. Beds were comfortable (trust me it was!) and the staff were hospitable. One of the lift wasn't working when I arrived but noticed it was fixed when I used the same lift on Saturday morning. Buffet spread was okay nothing fancy, has enough to keep you filled and it's Penang... You can always go out for more to fill that appetite. But I didn't mind it at all since I was on a restricted diet due to health reasons. Haven't had anything but plain porridge and knowing i can't eat Penang food outside, was really craving for a good meal. Tried my luck by asking the chef on duty whether a customised meal can be prepared and I was pleasantly surprised that they happily assisted and even better paid attention to detail on what can be added to the fried kuey teow. It was the one and only Fried Kuey Teow I had in Penang. Glad that the staff team went out of their way. Definitely will recommend this hotel and will stay here again. Love the balcony! But do mind the insects... Was bitten by beach insects...
