I read the earlier reviews and was a bit apprehensive about booking a room, but I was happy I did. Sure, there are a few things that aren’t perfect like, the bathroom tiles need to be really scrubbed clean and the bidet was dripping making the toilet wet all the time during our stay. But overall, we had a nice pleasant experience. I think it’s because we just booked the room without breakfast so we didn’t get to be too disappointed with the food. We ordered char kway teow for brunch one day and it was yum. Although there wasn’t a lot of staff around, the towels in the pool was always well stocked, they brought around ice and cutleries to our room very quickly and the cleaning staff always gave us extra coffee and toiletries. The room was always clean, cool and the view from the balcony was fantastic. The lawn was a great place to chill too. One thing I have to mention is that the beach area gets very busy from the morning until late afternoon. As it’s a public beach, people come by and they litter. You can always hear the sound of boats and jet skis too. Overall, I loved our stay there. It’s a calm, cool place and I can’t wait to visit again.…
Arrived at the hotel on a Thursday evening after a long drive and was immediately calmed by the serene environment at Lone Pine. The breeze, the birds chirping, and the beautiful landscape of the hotel were welcoming. Stayed in a few hotels, airbnb during this pandemic season and have to say that Lone Pine was the most pleasant. Beds were comfortable (trust me it was!) and the staff were hospitable. One of the lift wasn't working when I arrived but noticed it was fixed when I used the same lift on Saturday morning. Buffet spread was okay nothing fancy, has enough to keep you filled and it's Penang... You can always go out for more to fill that appetite. But I didn't mind it at all since I was on a restricted diet due to health reasons. Haven't had anything but plain porridge and knowing i can't eat Penang food outside, was really craving for a good meal. Tried my luck by asking the chef on duty whether a customised meal can be prepared and I was pleasantly surprised that they happily assisted and even better paid attention to detail on what can be added to the fried kuey teow. It was the one and only Fried Kuey Teow I had in Penang. Glad that the staff team went out of their way. Definitely will recommend this hotel and will stay here again. Love the balcony! But do mind the insects... Was bitten by beach insects...…
Rooms: We stayed in 2 Rooms - both are garden rooms and they are Filthy, dusty and unhygienic. See pictures and judge for yourself Service : they did not clean one of the room because apparently we did not request to make up room (we actually switched on the make up room indicator). I thought all hotels cleaned the room daily ? Or is this no longer a hotel ? When we request the room to be cleaned, we were told that the maid has gone home. What the &@“@&) is this? Breakfast is equivalent to a 3 star hotel. Noisy as they allowed guests (and their guests) to stay at the area outside the hall beyond midnight …. Is there no SOP? I have stayed here a few times before 2018 but somehow the service and condition of this hotel is appalling.
I booked for 2 rooms for 2 nights. Chose this hotel because I heard that it is an exquisite hotel with low density. For the price I paid, it was totally not worth it. Here is why: 1. The moment I walked in to the hotel, you can see renovation on going, lift lobby area was dirty, no SOP, reception area is crap. 2. The rooms are old & dusty. Dirty toilets & bedsheets were not clean. 3. The hotel did not make-up our rooms despite our reminder. 4. My kids called to ask for toilet replacement & it took 30 min & a few calls to remind them 5. Only 1 restaurant is open, the rest is still under-renovation. 6. Zero hotel feel to make you feel comfortable. 7. Rooms are not sound proof. At 11pm, can heard a chair dragging, people walking along the corridor. 8. SOP at the hotel at all. I get it that the hotel is under-renovation, so don't operate at full capacity & charge at almost RM500 per night if the hotel can't deliver. It is the hotel problem, not mine. I paid & I expected good service. Everything is super disappointing.…
Might someone interpret the cancellation terms of this place for me please? On paper, it states that I'm allowed free cancellation 3 days before check in & one night's penalty if cancelled after or a no-show. When I called the hotel 2 weeks ago to book directly, I was told no cancellations were permitted & when I tried to check out early after staying a night, I was told I was liable for the full payment of all 3 nights that I'd booked. My understanding of the terms is that the most I can be penalised for is one night. Might someone clarify? I had wanted to check out early because all of the indoor public spaces were under construction & the restaurant, the only functioning indoor public space, closed at 8pm. I had explained that as a lone traveller with no car, I had intended to spend my time entirely at the resort chilling but this wasn't possible with nowhere to hang out after dark. I was told by the receptionist that their website stated that they were undergoing works. I've just checked & can now see that this wasn't on the homepage but on its news page. The reservations manager wouldn't let me cancel. Not knowing about hotel rates on Batu Ferringhi, I had asked if their current rate reflected their building works & he'd said no, that it depended on demand & that my room was now actually at a higher rate than when I'd booked it 2 weeks ago. This was now Fri 6pm. I'd then walked to a neighbouring hotel to see if they might speak to Lone Pine & allow me to transfer, as one professional to another, & the receptionist there calmed me down & said that I might as well use Lone Pine just to sleep in & avail myself of their facilities & this is what I did eventually & had a pleasant time, strolling from one place to the other with walks on the beach & swims in the sea. It's hard to tell if Lone Pine in its current state is a result of the current situation or neglect by its owners. Service from individual members of staff were good. I first visited 10 years ago when my brother held his wedding there. The hotel was newly refurbished then & it was a very elegant place, simple in design yet sophisticated. This time, when looking for a place on Batu Ferringhi, I had not bothered to shop around but had simply rebooked here, excited by revisiting a fond memory. Even in its current neglected state, there is still no hotel like it in contemporary design elegance on Batu Ferringhi. From what I can see from the finishes of the current refurbishment, it will be so again one day, but that isn't now. Finally, beware of a beach holiday in Batu Ferringhi in general. A reclamation project begun in another part of Penang has meant that Batu Ferringhi has lost half its beach.…
