We escaped the cold at home to enjoy 5 nights in February, when it was dry and in the 90s every afternoon. This unique property is spectacularly perched on an isthmus between the ocean and the bay. You have two beaches and four pools plus a hot tub with waterfall to enjoy. We booked the entry level Teraza room and with our Amex travel were upgraded to the Brisa room (one floor higher) plus daily breakfast. Yes, even the entry level room is over 2K/night but you are paying not just for the lovely accommodation but also the cachet and quality of being at this magnificent resort. Some of our favorite things: morning beach walks; the amazing breakfast buffet (thank you for coaching our Spanish, Chicky!); poolside service from Ericka and Rafaela; an outstanding massage at the beautiful spa; a fantastic morning nature walk with Daniel to see monkeys, birds, and local trees; a fun and informative coffee class with JR; the Tour of the Giants visit to the breathtaking Arnold Palmer-designed golf course with Jonathan; kayaking for two in the bay; the well-appointed and well-air conditioned fitness center; superb dinners at Pesce (upscale) and Anejo (sushi), where Jess took excellent care of us. We also appreciated being able to book activities and make requests for room cleaning and turndown on the Four Seasons app. The housekeeping service was outstanding. This was not our first time in CR but our first to this property; I am confident it won’t be the last!

We stayed 6 nights in an entry level Terraza room. The room was on the ground floor but still had ocean views. Entry level rooms in higher categories are identical but on higher floors but I can not imagine views would be significantly better. The Terraza room is a standard hotel room but they have decorated the patio like a small living room to give more space. We were a family of 2 adults and 2 children so the two double beds was rather cramped quarters for us, with 2 queens we would have been much happier. As everyone knows, even entry level rooms rates are sky high here and at first I was very irritated by how much I was paying for a basic hotel room. Over the course of our 6 days my irritation lessened as I came to appreciate the amazing customer service, complimentary poolside cabanas, numerous great restaurants on site with amazing food, the resorts location between 2 great beaches, perfect housekeeping, immaculate grounds. We had an amazing 6 days here to end our 18 day trip to Costa Rica.

We stayed at Four Seasons Papagayo for a work incentive trip. We’ve previously stayed at Four Seasons Maui and Punta Mita. Costa Rica so far is our absolute favorite. The hotel is nestled in the landscape offering tons of beautiful views but also privacy. We were lucky enough to stay in a canopy suite with plunge pool and it was AMAZING. We also looked at how much the suite would have cost had we paid for it and we definitely would not have gotten a suite on our own dime. But it’s the Four Seasons and you have to expect excellence comes with a price. Our view was of the bay side of the peninsula. The staff were on it with everything. Our room was a little far from the main area but somehow even with crazy requests like bags of ice for our cooler it seemed like they were there within minutes. The food was DELICIOUS. All of it. No complaints at all. Drinks were top notch with premium spirits. Even the cocktails were delicious. A few things to note. It is very hilly in this region. So be prepared for steep hills while at the hotel or just take the golf cart service. It’s also at the very end of the peninsula. So if you plan to do any offsite excursions, make sure to look at transportation. Driving to anywhere from the four seasons has the potential to be quite far. But there are water taxis that you can take for a premium price to other parts of the area, cutting transportation time significantly. We also went in June during rainy season so it did rain pretty much every afternoon. Which turned out to be fine because it cool things down. We did talk to a few locals that said the rainy season really is the best time to go because everything is so lush and green. Non-rainy season tends to get extremely hot, and of course not so green.

Came here for an office retreat and it did not disappoint. Beautiful resort property, top end throughout. Rooms were very sizeable, well equipped, bathrooms very large. Plenty of dining options from bar food to more formal steakhouse option. Breakfast buffet offered plenty of choices for everyone. If you went hungry, it was your own fault.
A couple of things, I am a coffee drinker, the coffee left something to be desired. Cappuccinos and lattes were fine, it was just the French press that they brought that seemed a bit week. Other thing is, keep in mind this is a resort. Food was very, very expensive. Dinner for three at the steakhouse ran about $550 with tip.
One tip, if you are going to take a fishing charter, do not use the locals sitting on the beach trying to get you to hire them, and do not book through the hotel. The hotel charged us about $2,400 for a fishing charter. Same charter could have been booked for $1,200 on line. Beach was very clean, pool area was also kept clean and well serviced by staff.
Definitely would come back again. They did a great job for us.

It was a luxury accommodation with stunning sea views and a serene atmosphere. The rooms are elegantly designed and feature private terraces or balconies. Dining options range from fine dining to more conventional fare, featuring local flavors and fresh ingredients. Activities include water sports, nature walks, and spa treatments, ensuring a balance of relaxation and adventure. We use Issys Tours private airport transfer to add convenience and comfort, providing punctual transfers with expert drivers who enhance the trip with local information and safety when moving around.

Just returned from 4 days relaxing at the Four Seasons, one of the many Four Seasons properties we’ve enjoyed. This property probably falls at the lower experience range of the brand yet the price is at the higher end. Sadly 3 of our 4 days were buffeted by massive winds and blasting sand, forcing us inside much of the time. We were unable to enjoy the beach/water activities during our stay.
Attempting to get out of the blowing sand we went to the adult pool and were told that a visit would cost an additional $750! I raised this with the MOD, Sonia, who seemed patient but unsympathetic to the craziness. We’re not the first to flag this shortcoming and it really should be dropped. Pool reservations are fine but the additional fee is “salt in the wound”.
Best part was the food - exceptional at all four of the restaurants. Service matched the flavor. Pesce and Nemare were our favorite. Breakfast buffet was fine if not a tad underwhelming and a few too many flies - maybe the wind blew them in?
The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained with adequate seating.
Housekeeping was hit or miss. On 3 of the 4 days we returned late afternoon to find no service. We had to call to request service, which then arrived promptly.
Stay in higher level for a water view and request the 3000 building closer to pool and restaurants to avoid need for golf carts.

Business Conference and vacation days attached. It is a beautiful hotel sitting on beautiful property. What makes it so outstanding is the staff and their attention to your every need. There was not any area I was in that staff did not stop to ask could they assist me in some way. Rafeala (?) who attends to the guest on the Bay side beach is probably the best Guest Attendant/Staff I have ever had attend to me at any hotel in the world. This woman genuinely wants you to relax and enjoy your experience at the hotel. She remembers your name, all the folks with you & your preferences. She stops and chats with just enough familiarity to make you feel welcome but then moves on to fulfill your order or move to next guest. On the day I was to checkout I ran down to beach searching for lost item before the transport picked us up to leave. We had 40 min to get breakfast and get to lobby. Spoke with Rafaela and she had found it the night before & turned in to Lost & Found. She told me to go get my breakfast. She contacted Lost & Found then personally escorted them to Restaurant area to track me down to get it returned to me. "Thank You"! I have no idea of her status or rank at hotel but I hope Four Season's management knows what a jewel they have!

What a GORGEOUS and special place! We had the best time in this magical location! Biggest tip is to reserve through Kristen Nix Travel! Kristen went above and beyond - we got wonderful upgrades and will always use Kristen for future travel plans! At FS Costa Rica, we loved the 2 beaches and the close proximity of the beaches, pool, gym, and restaurants. We stayed in 2 Cielo Rooms and we liked how easily walkable the rooms were to all of the activities. It worked great for our family of 5 because sometimes we'd go in different directions and then it was easy to meet back up. One of the unexpected highlights was the amazing breakfast buffet! Top favorite activity was the private cooking class we did with Chef Victor Castro. My daughter and I said it was the most special, memorable part of our trip! The waitresses Carolina, Ana, and Daniela are wonderful. Vanessa at Alma gift shop was great. Hector practiced Spanish with my son. Most of our luggage was unfortunately not loaded on the plane out of the US which was a bummer, but the FS delivered it for us the next day when it arrived. In the meantime, they offered us toiletries and a discount at the gift shop which was so nice. There are lots of free events offered like a free coffee class we enjoyed. The watersports are complimentary too which is great. Housekeeping staff is amazing. The room was spotless. Even the beach bathroom at the end of the day was spotless - I was amazed. All around a fantastic trip! Highly recommend.

Just enjoyed 4 days at this amazing property. We love Four Seasons and this is my 7th Four Seasons that I have stayed at and the service is so consistent they always go above and beyond to make you feel special. Highlights of this trip if you are on a romantic trip splurge for private pool Cindy will make your day she is amazing. Food is fantastic at all the restaurants. All the individuals we interacted with were amazing love all the bartenders at Anejo. It’s also the small touches I was reading a book and didn’t have a bookmark and one was put in my room at turn down service. You are paying a premium and you get what you pay for with these amazing people who seem to love what they do. Also lots to do if you are in search of activities.

I have been fortunate to travel to many luxury hotels and enjoy a number of beach vacation properties. Whether Jumby, Aman, Sandy Lane, Ritz, St. Bart’s etc…I have enjoyed a number of beautiful properties. I have actually gotten to the point where I actively avoid beach vacations because I want more variety, culture, and unique experience in my vacation time. At some point, a lounge chair on the sand, no matter how gorgeous, begins to blend into the other lounge chairs I have been fortunate enough to enjoy.
There is where I have been moved to make the distinction and thus this post about the Four Seasons Papagayo. Yes, there are lounge chairs and cabanas. Yes, there are jet skis and other beach activities. Yes, there are pool chairs and quests for shaded chairs. All fairly par for the course in one of these type of resorts…
But, where this hotel distinguishes itself is in its impeccable level of service. I hold these establishments to high standards, and we all should for the prices they charge, but this hotel truly earned its stripes. Everything is just done well.
From breakfast buffets, to beach staff, to the wildly efficient van service that transports you from hotel to neighboring restaurants and facilities. It’s all extremely well choreographed and managed.
With two tween kids, we enjoyed a number of the activities and were pleasantly surprised each time. The staff made you feel welcomed and as if they were happy to be there with you. A job well done, specifically by those activity groups!
I haven’t posted in years, and am I not a huge fan of beach vacations. I like doing more “interesting” things. But I want to highlight the excellent service level we encountered at this resort as “post worthy”. They do a great job.
Like many high end properties, it’s quite expensive, but the facilities are clean and in good shape. And the service makes you feel as if you are getting value for your money.
I recommend pushing yourself to try some of the activities (volleyball, surfing, foiling, mixology…). They offer a ton and some are complimentary but ALL are done with a smile.
Good job!
