We had two meals at Le Renard during our week in Châtel and both were excellent. Great service. lovely choice of local dishes on the menu, cosy and friendly vibe in the restaurant, and very good value for money. Thanks to Rob and Mathilde and their team, can’t wait to come back again.

Just returned from a long ski weekend in Chatel. Two of us stayed at Le Renard and can highly recommend it. Basic but clean rooms and a fantastic dining experience - tasty food, big portions and reasonably priced. You really won’t be disappointed. All staff are very friendly and Mathilde is a great host (as is Shadow the resident dog!). Bus stop literally outside the door which drops you at Linga cable car, only one stop so could be walked in under 10mins. Ski hire a few minutes walk around the corner. Bit of an uphill trek into town but you could take the bus and walk back in 20/25mins all downhill. Great place to visit in general, not as busy as your mainstream ski resorts but enough charm/bars/restaurants to keep you happy. Small (if any) queues for ski lifts too! 1hr 45mins from Geneva - used Magic Transfers in Chatel for a shared transfer (€45 per person each way)...very prompt and very reasonable. Enjoy your trip!

I have stayed at Le Renard on a number of occasions, usually in groups, and eaten there many more times. The food and wine choice is excellent and well-priced, and nothing is ever too much trouble. All the staff are polite and helpful and professional. The hotel is in a great location for skiing with free buses stopping outside, or one can walk to the nearest lift at Linga in 5 -10 minutes and link in to the rest of the Portes du Soleil from there. I shall be back again and I'm sure so will many others!

What can I say Rob and Mathilde run a great little hotel. Warm friendly and hard working staff. Cosy clean rooms plenty of hot water. The food in the evenings was superb. Fresh ingredients and wonderfully presented. New Year’s Eve was fantastic the menu, the ambience and the incredible fireworks! In a lovely part of town near lifts bus stop outside. Only one stop away. Ski hire round the corner. Highly recommend for families. We will be back for sure👌

I booked a twin room at this hotel for three nights but on arrival were placed in a very small room with a small double bed and two bunk beds. It was also rather dirty in many places. The manageress said this was the room I had booked and there were no others so my assistant resigned herself to sleep in a bed that was too small for her. However it later became obvious that the heating wasn't on high enough as the room was getting colder and colder. I complained again and the heating was turned up, but having had enough of this squalor I arranged with the booking company to cancel the booking penalty free from the following day. Amazingly the owners then turned the heating off overnight meaning we had an utterly miserable night's sleep. Their attitude seemed to be that skiers are out all day and are used to the cold, ignoring that not everyone comes to the Alps in winter for skiing. That said the restaurant is excellent. It's just a pity the owners don't put more effort into running a hotel properly as this was of a standard that makes any English guest house or B&B seem like the Ritz.

We have stayed at this hotel for the last 5-6 years and its always spot on. Rob & Mathilde are always the perfect hosts, supported brilliantly by the rest of the team. Nothing is ever too much trouble and the vibe is so relaxed. We have been a group of 8 down to 4 over the years with party ages of 16 through to 40 something and the hotel has everything we need. A cosy bar area, clean and comfortable rooms, exceptional food, close to the lifts and above all a friendly welcome each time. Its a little out of town but the walk up and down is both great for the legs and to clear the head after a few too many.

Lovely small, friendly hotel with excellent meals. The restaurant is cosy and usually full - so unless you are staying there, it is best to book. Nice bar area and a den for the youngsters to retreat to with a large selection of CD's and vidioes. Bedroom are on the small side but cosy and clean. We have stayed here during the skiing season and once for a couple of nights during the summer season. Wonderful. Thanks Rob and Mathilde.

Together with friends and as a couple I have visited Le Renard as the base for ski holidays a number of times over several years so this review may be considered long overdue! The experience has only ever improved and, despite the last visit being a few months ago (Feb 2017) during the last ski season it seems an appropriate time to write in order to assist those planning trips for the winter ahead. Le Renard is a gem within a picturesque alpine resort. As chalet/hotel or restaurant the experience is always excellent. It has comfortable, well appointed en suite rooms and a hugely popular restaurant all superbly managed by charming hosts Rob and Mathilde who make you feel so welcome it really feels like home from home. Rob's skill as a chef cannot be underestimated and during one visit he even prepared a dish by request that I had only been able to find in one other place! That's great service! The quality of the food overall and the ambience of the restaurant are worth the visit alone. Indeed, the restaurant is very well patronised by locals so what better way to enjoy this hospitality than by staying there too! That way you get to enjoy the excellent breakfast as well! It's location as ski accommodation is ideal. With bus stops directly outside in both directions you can catch a frequent bus service for the short trip to the nearest lifts. If for any strange reason you didn't fancy waiting for the free bus it is a reasonably short walk. In short, I can't recommend this place enough so if Chatel is your preferred destination for a ski holiday look no further than Le Renard.

Have been staying at Le Renard for years. The hotel is lovely and very comfortable. Very short walk to Linga or an even shorter walk to the bus stop to Pre La Joux. Both are exceptionally easy and takes the stress out of getting to the slopes. The food is excellent and this gem of this hotel is the bar, it is teeming with character and life. Rob and Mathilde are wonderful hosts. I highly recommend.
