Staff could not be more helpful and it was good to have our luggage carried to our room up the staircases. The food in the restaurant was very pleasant...

At first glance it looked v busy with no spare tables but venture beyond the front of the hotel and you come across a great waitress - service area which looked like an...

I stayed at The Bear Hotel recently for my friend's engagement party. I booked 2 rooms for myself, my 2 young children (aged 3 and 10 months) and my mum. We arrived at 5:30pm and as soon as we arrived we were greeted with welcoming staff at reception. They could not do more to help. One lady member of staff...

Just got back from The Bear in Cowbridge where we enjoyed a lovely lunch. Served by Kelly, who was pleasant and very helpful. I had the lasagne served with garlic bread and side salad & coleslaw, and my husband has the chilli pancakes with fries. Both meals piping hot and very tasty! Sat at the rear restaurant where we like...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
