If you are visiting Montezuma but want to be closer to nature and away from the crowds, Cabuya is my first choice. Its an ancient fishing village known for its tranquillity and of course plenty of fresh fish for a reasonable price.

If you're traveling on a budget, this is a great place. It's located near a very cute little town with some great little places to eat. Montezuma Costa Rica is known for it's bohemian atmosphere, so if you traveling expecting 5 stars, this isn't your type of place. The Howler Monkey Hotel is surrounded by jungle where the capuchin monkeys...

Firstly, this is Cabya! no all inclusive resorts, no casinos,no tribal tatoo,s & dreadlocks, just a working fishing/farming comunity of real Ticos going about their lives without costantly hawking tourists.Jim is a great host, & will be happy to give you any tips on whats around locally. The cabins themselves are basic, but this fits in perfectley with the rustic, un-manicured state...

We have been to this area several times, so knew what to expect in terms of beaches, food, proximity to amenities, etc. but have not stayed at the Howler Monkey until now. Wish we had done so sooner... Jim is a charming and knowledgeable host and the accommodations were great! Although the dust is prevalent in the entire peninsula this...

I don't know where to start. May be it is okay for young backpackers, the rooms are dirty, but cheap, the whole place needs lots of TLC. It is located in a very dusty town, the beach is absolutely rocky and if you get in the water it is all rocks. The bathrooms were not working properly, there was a...

I dont know your name or when or if you stayed, since you hide behind a blogger identity. About 2 million years ago,Cabo Blanco volcano, which is located about 2 miles south of the tip of the park which is still active today exploded violently ,trowing all those basalt rocks onto the beech,i am not allowed to remove them even if i...

Howler Monkey Hotel... in short a GREAT stay! The howler monkey was a truly relaxing and over all great experience. The owner, Jim, struck us as a knowledgeable and helpful person. He has two dogs looking after the place, one of which just had a litter with six immensely cute puppies (we miss this already). The property is located in...

We didn't stay at Howler Monkey Hotel, we stayed in the house next door, but we met Jim the owner, who invited us to use his pool and introduced us to the purveyor of the cheapest, freshest local fish. Jim is extremely hospitable. I'm sure he's a great host to his visitors.

We did not stay at the Howler Monkey but had a prior reservation at a cabin nearby on the same road. Yet Jim the Patron/manager was very helpful. We borrowed his kayaks and he recommended the best location to kayak plus provided info on the tides and best timing to go out on the water, and he provided some minor...

First off, Howler Monkey is very small and off the beaten path. It took a bit of driving to get there from San Jose. The community of Cabuya is very quaint and charming. The location is beautiful and access to the ocean is great. Note that it is not a sand beach - very rocky. The cabins are cute and...

The beach is dependent on the tides and the moon for sand, sometimes the tide brings in sand and you have a nice sandy beach and sometimes it takes away the sand so you have a rocky beach. Its not easy to have matching sheets as sometimes the guests burn holes in them with there cigarettes .I have salt and pepper and...

My husband and I spent a week at the Howler Monkey Hotel in December 2016. As usual we had a great time. This is our third year and it's starting to feel like home. Every year we meet some of the locals. Jim (the owner) was as courteous as usual. We went to just hang out and refresh, and took...
