Uvita is a strangely expensive place to stay, but Big Bamboo provides a decent place for less money provided you have transportation of your own to get to the beach. The meals at the restaurant were of good value and quality, and the rooms were adequately comfortable if rather hot-- the ACs worked fine but were not powerful, and staff... More

Restaurant was not open in august. We were the only guests. Next time I would prefer Manuel Antonio. The road to the hotel is not asphaltic but access is not a problem. Room was ok but shower was too close against the wall. Principally ok but too high-prices (68 USD for one night) out of season.

Dear Mr. Chafer: I sincerely apologize that your stay was not up to our usual standards. I do not like to make excuses but during the days of your visit Lupe, our chef, had to deal with a serious family emergency and the restaurant was closed for a few days. As we take great pride in our rooms and service... More

The cheapest rooms we had in Costa Rica and still very clean, in a beautiful and well-tended garden. Breakfast good, at tico price level, a quiet laid-back place. The place is off the main road, up an unmarked road almost in front of the gas station (ask there). So mountain-side, not sea-side. The lady did not speak a word of... More

For $40 per night, this hotel was a great value. We traveled during the rainy season and stayed 2 nights. We wanted a clean, budget room with air conditioning and this fit the bill. We would stay there again! Food in the restaurant was also very good.

When you search for Pura Vida!, you can certainly find it here. Everything was just great. The host, Lupe, is a great cook and prepared us some typical costarican meals that were just delicious. The property has also a nice terrace and sitting area with a hammock. Our room was spacious and had all the commodities, including a fan and... More

The room was adequate, the AC really good. It was conveniently located and the food pretty decent. The best thing about it was Lupe, a co manager who went out of her way to make you welcome and valued.

Big Bamboo had all the basic amenities you could want. A/C, Hot Water, TV (you don't really want a TV in Costa Rica!!!!), WiFi, on site food! The place is the best bargain we got the entire time we were in Costa Rica. Uvita is not incredibly touristy, but there are plenty of cabinas, shops, grocery store, one bank, beaches,... More

It was easy to find and conveniently located in Uvita. Room was very clean, TV was great. AC worked really well. Food was good, Lupita was sweet and always around to help us with any needs. We met some German travelers and Americans. Walking around the neighborhood was pleasant and gave us a good feel for Uvita.
