It is quite far up the hill and although the walk down is ok, the walk back up is a killer 1,600 stairs down and the same again back up. There is only the Europa centre across the street to eat which is ok but nothing authentic to eat so we chose to walk down into Puerto Rico and get a taxi back up which varied between 5-7.50 euro.
I've taken one star off because we were on the ground floor (room 17)so no sea view and lacked any privacy. There are 36 apartments 1-18 ground floor and 19-36 upper floor.
All in all a lovely complex and if it was further down the hill and we had an upstairs apartment we would stay again
Now for the really bad news....the management have decided to let Tui take on this small complex along with the Eden next door as an all inclusive package and have given Myra and Jose their notice to leave on 17th October, everyone was absolutely devastated as this couple are the heart and soul of buganvillas and have always made our holidays very special and huge fun.
We will NOT be returning to buganvillas because of this and have sent an email to the management informing them that they are making a huge mistake but no reply, obviously their faithful customers opinions do not matter that much.
So disappointed!!!

The hotel itself with a great functional pool area. Cleaning and tidiness good, work well.
Breakfast right in that other hotel so somehow this covid time it feels weird to sit there because there are always a lot of customers, masks of course, mandatory.
But the hotel itself ,wifi was poorly functioning and i didn't like the balcony due to lack of privacy.
Advertise with four stars but no more than three stars.
The reason we go back so often is that we meet up with a lot of friends each year.
And Jośe and Myra who run the pool bar make it all fun and welcoming with barbecue nights and friendly banter have been served notice to vacate the bar on the 17th of Oct.
The reasoning behind this is that as it is part of the Eden apartments which is ajoined to want the complex to go all inclusive instead of self catering as it is now.
My wife and I believe that not only will this change the whole atmosphere of the complex but the surrounding area will suffer due to another all inclusive complex causing people to stay away from the bars and restaurants in the nearby Europa Centre causing more to close due to loss of earnings in these already hard times .
Not everyone wants all inclusive and likes to get out and about to sample the local facilities and entertainment.
The only negative for me was the drug dealers that used the side of the hotel to stash their drugs. Lots of left over tin foil packages left in bushes and under trees. This needs to be addressed by the hotel in my opinion as the dealers are there every night.
Mambos in the europa is best for breakfast and nights out, Yates’s is decent; el brassero is fantastic for a meal. Lots of options for a night out right on your door step:
We chose a 1 bedroom room with terrace (no. 13). The sun was blocked from this particular room's terrace by a large palm tree so we did our sunbathing in the pool area where the were plentiful sun loungers. No issue! The pool was really clean with gradual stepped access and was warm! There was a pool bar but with supermarket and room so nearby to easily self cater we didn't experience this facility nor any others in the main Eden hotel. Both sunloungers and table & chairs were allocated on our terrace with a handy wet clothing drying rack. Inside the apartment, the hotel photos are accurate with basic yet high quality furniture complimenting a clean and spacious living room & kitchen area with separate bathroom and bedroom. The kitchen had a good sized fridge along with necesseties to self cater. The bathroom had wet room style shower and large sink area. The bedroom had ample wardrobe shelving and hanging space. It was a pleasure to sit out each evening on the terrace and enjoy the cool breeze and the sunset!
The location is set up at the top of the hill above Puerto Rico and Amadores. Quite stunning if you seek out those viewing spots overlooking Puerto Rico and the surrounding area - not so good for the vertigo! We like walking and honestly the journey to walk down to and back up from Puerto Rico was quite testing in 28 degrees. For an alternative to walking and no hire car, Las Buganvillas was opposite to a taxi rank servicing the Europa Shopping Centre (directly outside the gated entrance of the apartments). Also easy to describe to the driver where you wanted to return to!
The shopping centre across the road from the apartments has two supermarkets (with lovely fresh bread and fruit), various restaurants and bars. We enjoyed really great food and drink at reasonable prices. Two BIG screens for those not wanting to miss a match! It is notable that whilst the entertainment would continue there deep into the night, the centre was set lower into the hillside and we did not hear any noise carried from the Europa during our stay.
We would recommend the scenic coastal walk into Puerto Rico. We also had a day on the sun loungers (€7) set on the harbour surround and enjoyed the sea swim in the enclosed area leading to the beach. So many fishes in the clear water! We also indulged in a few trips to Mogan Mall to enjoy the shops, restaurants (highly recommend the Selvatico in the market complex opposite for an elevated view, delicious food and a wonderful sunset vista!) and mall fountain show.
We researched a little to know more about these apartments. We understand the naming is with the beautiful flower that is planted around the apartment complex along with various scattered palm trees to bring a natural and welcoming feel.
Our criteria for a break is quite particular. I am happy (just short of smug) to have selected another excellent holiday accommodation set just far enough away and just close enough to what was needed for this sunshine break with minimum hassle and maximum relaxation.
We will be back, Thank You Team Las Buganvillas!
