We had a room with a shared private pool & private sun beds and although the water was a bit nippy, plenty of people were swimming in there. My overall impression of the hotel as how quiet and serene it was, hardly bumped into any other guests. Hotel set very high up with the reception and supermarket on the top floor, so we had the option of 3 lifts to get to our room (nowhere near as bad as it sounds) or walk down the stairs. Every member of staff I encountered was smart and polite, friendly and treated us with respect. We went self catering and sometimes cooked in the room, or sometimes went out to many of the bars and restaurants, which we timed was a 4 minute walk from reception. Cleaner came every day except Sunday & Tuesday and rooms were very adequate with a massive balcony (ours had 2 big comfortable beds on ours) and got the sun from about 0930 until about 1800, very hot. We also enjoyed a spiralling downhill walk to the main shopping area of Puerto Rico but wouldn’t advise waking back up as it is very steep, a 4/5€ taxi fare was well worth it. Lots of Scandinavian guests were in resort in January, with a lot of bars showing their national game, handball.
Overall I really enjoyed it, felt very comfortable there, the supermarket on site was on a par price with the main ones in the town, so wasn’t being ripped off. We actually booked to come back later this year while we were there with the Jet2 rep as I liked it so much, and if it’s a peaceful relaxing holiday you want with plenty of sun and lovely sea views, this is the place to go.
The rooms are bigger then we imagined and were very clean. In a standard room you have a lovely clean bathroom with a shower, a large bedroom with two spacious wardrobes and hangers, a lounge area with a television and sofa, a kitchen area with a kettle, microwave, fridge and much more. Balcony also had 2 sun loungers, an umbrella, chair and tables! Always kept clean with new towels daily!
During our stay we had the news we would have to quarantine when returning home and later news Jet2 were no longer flying customers out to the Canary Islands. The hotel began to get quieter throughout our stay but the staff remained so friendly, helpful and talkative. Lucy is a credit to the hotel, she would always ask us about our day, have a joke with us and smiled through everything. The food in the restaurant was good with a mix of options to suit everyone! With it being an adult hotel you don’t have the usual kids type meals, but every day there would be beef, chicken, pork or fish options! As a whole the food was good!
Around the hotel there is so much to do! You are in the perfect location to access everywhere. About a 5 minute walk away you have the Europa Centre which has lots of bars, restaurants, shops and an information stand to help you book excursions and give you all the information you need about the area. Plenty of places to visit around including Puerto Rico which has a beach, lots of shops and a shopping centre called Mogán Mall. Amadores the man made beach is a must visit. The town of Mogán too is a must visit. It is known for being “little Venice”, which is full of lots of beautiful picture points, shops and cafes as well as a beach! Mogán and Amadores are accessible via buses from the bus station in Puerto Rico which are cheaper then taxis. Whereas you may want to get taxis from Puerto Rico and Amadores back up to the hotel as it is all up hill and they only cost around 4€!
In regards to the hotel, it is a lovely hotel. We went all inclusive which included drinks, meals, pool side snack bar which opens 3pm-6pm and basic ice creams. The Infinity pool was beautiful and overlooked the sea, there was lots of sun loungers, day beds and umbrellas available around both pools. Very impressed!
My only negative is there are a lot of stairs that lead down to the pools and evening bar etc. There are handrails to assist, and a ramp into the pool which are good to assist those with walking difficulties!
As a whole very happy with this hotel and would love to return!
The pool area is lovely just wish that both bars were open as its a treck down to the pool bar below the infinity pool
The pool areas could do with side tables so as not to keep putting drinks ect on the floor.
The breakfast is fantastic, the lunch is fab and also the snack bar slightly let down by the evening meal it seamed to be a mish mash of foods and not great variety in way of main meal.
The rooms are massive with fridge kettle hob ect and very clean only niggles were shower leaked all over so to prevent slips had to put rolled towels at the edge to prevent us slipping. We could have done with a dressing table with mirror on as its a pain trying to get ready in a steamed up bathroom yes there's a big mirror outside on the wall however no socket for straighteners or defuser.
The balcony is big too could have a party on there lol with 2 sunbeds along with the table and chairs.
The entertainment was poor only an hour on Wednesday and Saturday night and no entertainment, games or Aqua aerobics during the day, Yes its an adults only hotel however doesn't mean we just want to sit and read or sunbathe all day.
The location is fab however not for those less able to manage steps or the steep slope a lift at the side down to the hotel would encourage more less able-bodied people to the Hotel . Overall we had a great holiday however could be even better with a few tweaks.
The Hotel had everything in place to keep staff and guests safe from the entrance area where 2 metre distance in place and plenty of hand sanitiser available. Hand Sanitiser was placed also in the lifts and around the whole hotel.
The whole hotel was immaculately clean (but it always is anyway). The rooms cleaned daily. Face coverings were worn by the staff at all times and guests had to were them at all times unless lying by the pool or in the pool itself or whilst sat eating. The all inclusive meals had to be portioned by catering staff but was still plenty to choose from, warm and delicious as always.
The staff as always were pleasant and cheerful even when we were all unsure how long we were staying , huge thankyou as always to you all for making our stay wonderful special hello to Sylvia and Lucy fingers crossed we see you all in March 2021 xx
The staff are 10/10. Very friendly and always got time for everyone. They tend to make you feel like you live there rather than being a guest, if that makes sense. Very nice people.
The hotel itself is very modernised, and the several pools are great. There’s an infinity pool at the top/main part of the sunbathing area where the night bar is. There’s a ramp going down to another pool area where another bar is which serves all sorts like ice lollies and decent food for lunch.
There’s also a little pool with beds in the water you can lie on just next to this pool.
The rooms are very modernised and are more like apartments which is preferable. The air conditioning is extremely good. The cleaning staff always left the room smelling very fresh and nice and tidied up the bedroom.
The area near the OCEAN HILL on my photo I’ve uploaded is perfect for sunbathing. There’s even a couch area with a shade above to relax (it does get very hot in Gran Canaria).
The hotel location is perfect and is right next to a complex called the Europa Centre where there’s a great bar called Barbacoa and some amazing food places. It’s also right next to the beaches.
I’ve already promised 1 of the staff I’ll be coming back.
Can’t really think of anything to criticise at all really as the hotel is great.
Would 100% recommend to anybody.
First off we wouldn't return to this hotel,it was a struggle to navigate, the signage doesn't really help and its all stairs, slopes and some lifts so no good for any mobility problems, the all inclusive food, apart from breakfast was in a word horrible,Sylvia in the restaurant is absolutely lovely probably deserves a payrise.
I spoke to one of the hotel staff about the food and explained how we would normally go self catering and use the local restaurant's and bars (which are mostly all fantastic btw and cheap) but due to covid there unfortunately just wasn't much open at the time we where there so had no choice but to go all inclusive and this staff member actually said "I don't blame you to go out from here for food" so that will give you some idea how bad it is,how people are saying the food is great is beyond me,im no fussy eater I can assure you but this was bad,you couldn't even put an actual meal together with the random assortment of things made from the leftovers of the previous meal,in contrast to this the breakfast was good and the pool bar restaurant if you can wait until 3pm to eat and manage to navigate the maze of stairs and lifts (when not broken) the pool bar cook fresh food from a set menu, burgers etc..sadly the best meal I had the whole entire 7 day stay at ocean hill was fish and chips from here, the second best was a burger I had down in Puerto Rico shopping centre,we got a taxi down one day cost about 4 euros.
If you are all inclusive you can get two 1.5l bottles of water from reception a day unless the sarcastic lady is there she will only let you have one,the rest of the reception staff where good and let you have two,the on site shop although we where told the opening times on arrival never opened once, you have to walk a fair way to the spar shop.
Our room 1115 had some issues,we didn't ask to be moved because we had elderly people with us and wanted to stay next door to them,i will add photos to show some of the issues we had including one of the cockroachs we had in our room, bearing in mind they had quite a long time to clean and maintain before our arrival!
I don't think the hotel has night security,we heard a couple having a full blown argument over Facebook of all things until around 2am,not sure which room it was from but most of the hotel must have heard it but no staff showed up,our neighbours got woken aswell,id of had to get dressed, navigate stairs, slopes,a fair walk and two lifts to reception to complain as there is no reception phone in the room.
Weather was great as always,we love Gran canaria and the people (apart from sarcastic receptionists) shame not much was open will be back just not to this hotel 👎
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, and you can't pay a low budget price and expect to be given a 5* hotel.
The area is very hilly and cliffy, probably not suitable for those with mobility problems. We would just catch a taxi to the places we wanted to go. €3 to Amadores beach. €4ish to Puerto Rico beach and about €4.50 to the Morgan center.
We ate around the pool bar for the days we stayed around the hotel. Very cheap €3 for a ham and cheese toastie with chips. They did other things like pizza and burgers.
My only niggle is that we don't eat breakfast and got up at 8:30am to get a sun lounger by the infinity pool and they were already full of other people's towels. I feel the hotel should do more to prevent people dumping their towels then not returning till almost lunch time.
Arrived early hours in the morning with approx another 10 couples, the check-In was quick and the directions to our room were clear & concise. Our‘Home’ for the next 24 day’s was is apartment 1010 which was absolutely perfect (Our request had been delivered)
The apartment was spotless and had the sanitised hospital smell of cleanliness. Large wardrobe space, Comfy beds, Fantastic overhead shower, A huge private balcony with table & two chairs, two sun loungers and parasol. There are no additional charges for air conditioning & it’s great.
We were self catering & the small but functional kitchen area worked just fine.
The maids cleaned to a very high standard 6 day’s a week, clean towels everyday, more than enough changes of the bedding, the standard of cleaning was exceptional in all area’s at Ocean Hill.
The pool area’s were great, at times sun beds were being reserved early morning by the selfish. Staff working in the pool bar were superb & worked efficiently meaning that there was never really a queue forming like at some AI hotels we have recently stayed in.
The onsite supermarket had a limited but good selection. We bulk shopped at Mercadona, walked down & the taxi back between 4.50 & 5 euros including tip.
Ocean Hill is in the perfect location for those who want a quiet relaxing break with stunning views. Both Amadores & Peurto Rico beaches are within a 20 minute walk downhill or down the 700+ steps. Europa centre is right on the doorstep, the Commercial centre a steady 30 minute walk down the hill, reception are happy to order taxi’s. Some entertainment was provided which in our opinion was the right type, tone & relaxed as we watched & listened from our balcony.
Couldn’t book a late checkout due to Ocean Hill being fully booked but the shower room in the gym can be booked on the day of departure at reception, a 15 minute slot is all you get but it’s more than ample to quickly freshen up, towels supplied by reception.
Absolutely nothing to complain about, not even being battered by storm Hermine could dampen the experience, yes the lifts were out of order for a couple of days but up & running once the storm cleared.
We don’t usually return to the same area / Hotel ! Ocean Hill however has turned our heads and we will definitely be back ‘home’ someday in the future.
The hotel is on a hill with beautiful views of the ocean (hence the name) and if you complain about steps, lifts or the hilly location, you really ought to read the hotel description before booking and choose a flat resort instead!
We always book the swim up room. It's spacious, well equipped and has wonderful views. I take my own hairdryer as I don't like hotel rooms where the hairdryer is fixed to the bathroom. The monsoon shower is excellent! Maid service is also great.
The infinity pool is stunning and there's always sunbeds.
All Inclusive drinks aren't the best (I'm a rum snob so I need quality!) so we tend to treat ourselves to premium alcohol at the bar, but the food is great with so much choice and everything labelled. You can eat indoors or outdoors.
There's not a lot of entertainment but that's fine for us as we don't go on holiday to be 'entertained'. We love the chilled atmosphere everywhere within the hotel so entertainment isn't needed in our opinion. They had a sax guy one night last time and it was too loud, so much so that we had to move to a different area to hear each other, lol. Plus the Europa Center is super close by if you want a night out.
There's a pharmacy, taxi rank and shops nearby at the Europa Center. Amadores beach is within walking distance down a steep hill so bring decent footwear or take a taxi which is only a few Euro. We'd recommend to visit Maspalomas dunes and Puerto Mogan.
The staff here are so special and we were delighted to see the same staff working here after the covid closure during lockdowns.
Special mentions to the lovely Silvia, Lucy, Humberto, Yaiza, Alain and Carmen. You genuinely make the place feel like our second home, and we hope to see your maskless faces next time we visit!
To summarise, Ocean Hill has stunning views, impeccable service, great food and a chilled vibe. We love it so much and we're super glad we discovered this wonderful place.
