We only booked this holiday a fortnight before we were due to arrive and struggled to get a holiday to match our requirements. I was slightly concerned having read some negative reviews and having to have 2 rooms (rooms only sleep 3 and we are a family of 5) however I really did not need to worry. We have in the past tended to book AI so did not know what to expect for self catering however check in was smooth, even though it was gone midnight and we were welcomed with two rooms 4 doors apart on the same floor. We were given 2 remote controls for each of the flat screen TVs (which we barely used) and paid a deposit for a safe. We headed in the lift to the ground floor. The entrance is minimal and on 6th floor but is staffed 24hours.
We checked out both rooms and decided we would use one for eating and relaxing and the other for sleeping so we moved the two mattresses from the bedroom in our eating room to our sleeping room. There was plenty of room to do this.
On one balcony (which was more like a terrace), we had 2 loungers, an umbrella and a table with three chairs, on the other we had a table and three chairs. Both rooms were the same layout however one had a hairdryer in the bathroom the other didn’t.
As other reviewers have mentioned there was no kettle however both rooms had coffee makers, cutlery, pots and pans and hobs as well as toasters and microwaves, plates, bowls and glasses.
We boiled some water in a pan for a cuppa.
The pool is great, loungers were available every day although on some days it was busier than others. The life guard arrived every day and 10:30 and opened the pool area. People tended to wait to get their loungers but it stopped any stress about people reserving loungers in the early hours. The pool closed at 8pm. The apartment and oool area was in the sun all day.
The apartment is located quite a way from the beach and Puerto Rico up steep hills. This location for us was great as literally within a few minutes walk is the Europa Centre with many bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets. We found after the first couple of days that some of the bars and restaurants slightly less busy had better and cheaper food and drink although all our meals were excellent and s lot cheaper than eating out at home.
We did use taxis to head to Maspalomas and Puerto Rico. Taxis were between 3 and 4 euros. Very cheap.
Overall we had a great time in a good location.

Stayed here few years ago and just returned Friday to uk after spending 1 week at accommodation. Very pleased with babalu@housmar.com overall rating 5 as very clean, cvd19 friendly and h&s of pandemic regulations on board. Room cleaned almost every day. Reception staff still same lovely ladies and security guy on arrival. However did miss pool bar not open as its privately owned and made sense that 2 metre distancing wouldn't make sense to open for guests. Hopefully when new regulations come into effect 2022 things will change. Pool open from 11am. This was OK as gave u time to have breakfast or go out walking or shopping. The apartments were not full occupancy approx 1 third full including private owned apartments. Was a very laid back quiet ambiance which we enjoyed anyway.
Stayed in basic self catering room (1 bed apartment) and ordered 2 x sundowners for 18 euros for 6 days.
I suggest u ask for apartment to be situated near lift as we walked 120 steps from lift on 3rd floor to our room 309. Great for fitness but don't forget sunglasses some treck back and forth in 29° heat lol.

Firstly remember you get what you pay for , if you want luxury double your budget!. These rooms do not have air con ,Yes it’s hot at night 🥵..The room we was in was clean and tidy , no stains on walls or sofas etc . We upgraded to superior but in all honesty I wouldn’t waste your money , apart from different colour decor I couldn’t see any difference. The rooms could do with a little more tlc ,e.g holes in netting, little crack in shower screen , nothing that would ruin your holiday . I was surprised there was no kettle or hairdryer in our room because I wrongly assumed theses would be standard in a ‘superior’ room (maybe we should of read the description properly)🤷‍♀️. €15 to hire kettle plus €10 refundable deposit , same for a hairdryer .The balcony’s were big , we only had a small round table & 3 chairs , an umbrella and sun beds would of made a massive difference. Some of the rooms had them so maybe you can hire them ?, if that is the case I think there should be some paperwork in the room to let people know what can be hired and prices. The view from the balcony is fantastic . The pool area is lovely and clean , yes the pool bar is closed so take drinks down with you . 3 pools with a lifeguard including a nice shallow one for toddlers . Pool table , football area and a little park .what more do you need?. Just across the road is the Europa centre with bars, shops ,restaurants, live music , evening entertainment, bingo,& park for the kids which includes a trampoline .and a couple of minutes walk is adventure golf. So don’t worry you won’t have to walk down the 20 minutes very steep hills to get to the town but you will have to if you want to go to the beach .( taxi is about €5 each way). All in all it’s in a great location with fantastic views, great pool, and everything virtually on your door step . Don’t be put off by bad reviews just bare in mind it is a budget hotel .

Spent 7 nights at babalu had visited a few times previously I have always paid for deluxe rooms these rooms are now extremely tired and need alot of work doing we stayed in 205 furniture / floor tiles dirty I purchased cleaning supplies to try and improve but it needed more than that. Pool bar / shop closed no life in babalu at all life guard had different rules for different families

The europa centre across the road from babalu is looking very tired we spent our time at the bottom of puerto rico better restaurants and great new shopping centre I would recommend spar to shop near the new shopping centre .sadly we will not be going to babalu again it needs a major uplift

Currently staying at Babalu, on recommendation upgraded to superior room. Here are the cons - pool bar not open; shop/supermarket not open; pool doesn't open until 11.00am, most other hotel pools open between 9.00am and 10.00am; no kettle in room asked and did receive one; no sunbeds or umbrella on balcony, only deluxe rooms have them, but if you pay extra 20 euros you'll get, this is the only difference between superior and deluxe; no hairdryer even though it shows in pics and some booking sites say there is one so make sure you bring one; staff seem friendly but all claim no English so be prepared to use Google translate. No smoking in pool area but if you step 6inches through the entry gate you can, go figure that one. Wifi only available at 6euros a day, no free areas. So the only facility open is the pool and they still want a 100euro deposit when you arrive. I've stayed in other hotels in Puerto Rico and this is the worst.... now the pros - weather's fantastic, apartments clean, fresh towels all come in sealed bags, oh and a flat screen TV but not one English channel not that I'm here to watch TV but at least one English speaking news channel would be helpful. Re the resort itself, bars and restaurants, those that are open, about 50% only, are open until midnight, only about 50% of shops open. If you smoke you can only do so if sitting outside restaurant and only if your table isn't under the canopy otherwise you have to go to a designated smoking area and stand with a load of strangers!!! Taxis are restricted to 3 persons, so for larger families be prepared to have one parent with kids in one and other parent in another taxi, we are a group of 4 and some drivers have allowed all four, just ask, you know what they say, if you don't ask you don't get.....

The reason we booked this apartment is because it’s situated between two beaches
We booked a deluxe apartment and how disappointed we were. Very dated and not particularly clean. I understand we are in the middle of a pandemic however not to have the pool bar open for drinks and snacks is very poor. The receptionist is only available limited hours. The local supermarket was also closed so was the Babalu shop. We complained about loud noises at 3am with music being played but this wasn’t looked in to.
For the extra money we paid it really wasn’t worth it
I would not recommend this stay well clear

When we arrived at apartments in first thought what are we coming to the receptionist was so miserable! Had to pay €100 deposit given our keys and sent on our way,
Got to the the room and was pleasantly surprised was spotless and huge balcony with 2 comfy sunbeds (we had been upgraded to superior due to flight change and glad we did) as if you are standard room you don’t get sunbeds kettle or hairdryer they need to be hired! Also no air conditioning which was fine as it got chilly at night but would defo need it in the summer which again you need to hire a fan!
My only gripe with apartment was the shower extremely powerful but you only get 3-4 mins of hot water! Then it went freezing
Apartments are in great location literally across from Europa centre and only €5 in taxi down to Puerto Rico centre
We went for a chilled week and that’s what we did and I would definitely return but still to a superior room, for the price it’s a gem

Not as it used to be, no pool bar, no music, the lifeguard that is there Tuesday - Saturday is a twit. No ball games, no floats you literally just have to sit there in the pool. Can not have any fun. The receptionists don’t understand hardly any English so that was a struggle trying to check in. We had a cockroach in our room we ask the night watch at reception if he would help us remove it and he told us we had to wait till the next day till the cleaners came and did a deep clean. The last week of our holiday they randomly decided to do maintenance on one of the pools so that was out of use. The shop next to the hotel is also closed. It’s really not as it used to and I’m really disappointed and will not be staying here again! Also it’s majority Spanish that stay here and from a young english women it’s quite uncomfortable as all they do is stare point and chat to people they are with about you

Just back from a 2 week visit. I am slightly disappointed as it is said to be a peaceful hotel however I was woken up daily at 8:30am by people working on the refurbishment. All day there was constant drilling and banging. Not relaxing at all. Secondly I found the receptionist to be quite rude and abrupt, didn't ask us about our stay once. WiFi is available but is at a fee(and not a cheap one) a €100 deposit is required for the room which is not mentioned in the hotel description. The rooms are basic but efficient ie. Kettle, toaster, hob, hairdryer etc. Cleaners in daily with fresh towels. No pool bar and no plans to reopen pool bar.

Although still advertised as with Pool Bar/Snack Bar and on site shop, these are no longer open so there are no facilities to purchase anything other than internet and safety deposit box for your room. Very disappointing as we normally go to the pool bar for lunch and drink at lunch time, ice creams etc throughout the day. We asked at Reception when they are opening but they are not so shouldn't be advertised in the write up for the apartments. Speaking to other guests and they feel the same all disappointed that no longer any facilities. The pool is now open from 10 am till 5 pm which is fine by us but guests are coming from 8.30 am and climbing over the railings. Rooms very tired and old fashioned but very clean with maid service every day except Sunday. Pool bar and restaurant and shop definitely needed.
