Very dated room with lots of dead flies in the window.
Even after removing the throw pillows there were 4 dead animals underneath.
Breakfast was good.
Despite the dated rooms that apparently had not been checked before arrival for dead animals we found the accommodation pricey for what to get!
The rooms are clean and large and offered everything you need for a one night stay.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of a small rural town and has a beautiful large garden that is so peaceful - a wonderful way to start the day with a 10-15 minutes walk in it.
Breakfast is rich and really tasty and the staff is welcoming and warm. If you are in the area and looking for a nice place with authentic atmosphere - this is the place for you!
All in all it was an almost perfect stay....here's where Het Ros van Twente gets schizophrenic. We booked a comfort room, we got one on the ground floor as they suggested it would be more convenient with our dog. They were right. However, the room looks nothing like the images they advertise with. It looked like an 80s remnant. That's fine, it was comfortable, if you overlook the scratchy towels, sheets, dodgy carpet. I understand the rest of the hotel was under renovations. I'm sure this is just a one off.
The breakfast and morning crew (one lady) was so different from the dining staff/experience. Perhaps the disappointment was greater due to the amazing dinners. Breakfast was standard, varied but lacking the most basic things. Like hot water for tea. The kettle was obviously empty and when I asked for more hot water, said lady was less than pleased. Could I not use the steam part of the coffee machine instead? Sure...sorry I had to ask. The bread and home made jams were excellent, but I was most surprised to find them serving sausage/pâté with the rind still attached and you could see bits of paper sticking onto the sides. That was just gross. Also the 'juices' were from concentrate. Fine, but the grapefruit juice actually tasted like after you threw up...so I would avoid those in the future. So a word of advice for Het Ros van Twente, please change your breakfast crew/cook. She does not have the style and grace of the rest of the establishment. No one likes to be grunted to in the mornings (yes, she does not answer but rather grunts...unhappily).
Dear Willem, thank you for your amazing hospitality. We would love to come back, but will probably skip breakfast in the future and just save our appetites for dinner instead.
Our hosts, both of whom speak English fluently, were very kind and help to make our stay a delight.
