Great hotel perfect for town centre and the beach, great staff. Lovely grounds to walk round. Rooms large and spacious. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this lovely town. Lovely old parts of the building, we stayed in the older part and the room was beautiful.
Spent Christmas here and despite Covid had a very relaxing, happy Christmas. Lovely tree and decorations in lobby and restaurant, they even organised carol singers with hot chocolate and mince pies. The staff are helpful and friendly and it's great being able to take the dog who was also greeted warmly! Our room was spacious, clean with a very comfortable bed and large bathroom. Due to Covid the rooms could not be turned down and the pool was closed but staff were happy to replenish teas, coffee, towels, bin liners etc..and take room rubbish bags when needed at reception. This did not mar our stay as we love the atmosphere at the Cliffden; cosy, warm, guest / dog friendly, and comfortable with amazing views to the sea and only a short stroll through the beautiful, gated secure gardens to the seafront and shops. Look forward to returning. …
· The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and put them selves out to entertain a small number of guests during Christmas. The food was very good and service brilliant ! Our rooms were big, clean and lovely big bathroom 👍 The hotel is old style, which we loved, and was beautifully decorated for Christmas 🎄 Breakfast was perfect. Couldn’t fault this hotel at all, and would definitely stay there again. Covid precautions were very good , we felt very safe ! Big thank you to everyone at The Cliffden Hotel .
I had booked this venue as at the this time of year, activities in seaside towns is limited and the Cliffden offered a heated indoor swimming pool and seemed reasonable in other aspects. The staff were very friendly and helpful were they could be. Although good precautions and measures were set in place to combat Covid19, we were very disappointed to see that quite a few of these seemed to be for cost cutting measures rather than health concerns. Previous to the second lockdown the pool was open and they had good measures in place which as per their email was working well. Suddenly now however, they had ‘decided‘ to close the pool without a valid reason. They were not going to turn down the rooms (understandable), and teas and coffee refills were to be requested from Reception. The room, although booked for 3 people and a dog, only offered 2 towels and 2 tea/coffee paper cups. We had booked to stay for 4 days and were given 1 toilet roll, and only 2 paper cups for the basin. So literally upon arrival, had to already ask for extra of everything. Cleanliness not rated highly. Mould in shower, bathroom curtain filthy, and old molding yoghurt container stuck behind the bed. The shower head would not stay in place and had to be secured with a hair hand (luckily I had spare). Bed linen had marks which had not come out in previous wash. Bedroom lights were not all working, and some of the Windows did not close, or were so high up, that they could not be accessed. Therefore it was a rather chilly stay. Meals were average, and breakfast was sparse with only a very basic (cost cutting) selection with only a few items laid out and not replenished for late comers. Sauces and salt and pepper were not readily available, and had to be asked for separately each time. The coffee machine was great but when busy caused quite a queue. Access to beach is great however, and Teignmouth itself a beautiful little village with lots of cafes and restaurants and dinky stores, so well worth a visit. I doubt we will visit this hotel again, as it stood out as overall disappointing and not anything to rave about. …
Lovely old building, warm and nice clean rooms. Dog friendly and we didn’t have to leave our dog in the room or in the car at mealtimes which was a bonus. Beautifully kept gardens with a secure gate at the bottom which gave easy access to the seafront and park. Convenient location with lovely views of the bay.
