My husband and I stayed at the Cliffden for two nights in June with the dog.....being in the area on business it was very convenient for us. Pleasantly surprised....we had a large room on the second floor.....at the back of the hotel it was very peaceful. And what a great swimming pool...and beautiful grounds. The staff were attentive, motivated, and...

This was my first time at this hotel and I WILL be back! From first to last, the service was friendly, fast and efficient. The single room was large, clean and smart, with a really comfortable bed , serviced well throughout my six night stay. The location is excellent , being a few minutes walk from the station, and the beach...

First visit to this hotel and we were so impressed, to be somewhere that caters so well for anyone with a visual impairment and particularly with a guide dog, is a real bonus. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and they dealt so sensitively with guests, such a relaxed atmosphere, I would really recommend it. The...

Stayed here while on business, hotel is situated in a nice area with lovely views. The staff are friendly and rooms clean and tidy. This hotel also caters for the blind and I must admit I've never come across hotels like this before but it's good to see. The prices are good and breakfast also. The wifi is free although...

The hotel on the pictures looks nothing like it is! There is dog hair everywhere & the hotel doesn't look clean in general. We stayed in a room shoved up the other end which needed serious upliftment! The dinner lounge has all hair over the floor to and the cutlery needs to be renewed ! Very old . The manger...

Lovely old world charm. Beautiful views over Teignmouth. The Hotel caters for Blind and partially sighted guests...... the guide dogs are wonderful, you really wouldn't know they were there. Enjoyed listening to the Lady singer on Saturday night.... old and modern songs and plenty of audience participation. Large landscaped gardens and a proper sized swimming pool. Pleasant walk down the...

Thank you very much for leaving a review for the Cliffden Hotel. The hotel is sat in 7 acres of mature gardens, with a short 5 minute walk to the sea which is downhill on the way and yes - more challenging on the way back up! We have entertainment 2 or 3 nights a week, and the lady singer...

We picked this hotel off a booking website as it looked like an old fashioned seaside destination hotel and we were correct, but not all in a good way. The location is great with an elevated view over Teignmouth and to walk in to town is nice as there is a path through the gardens down to the promenade. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Cliffden Hotel was built as a private House in 1815 for Sir John Strachan on 35 acres of grounds adjacent to the Dawlish Road. The original gardens were built in the Regency style gardens, with smooth lawns, shrubberies and trelliswork and wall-plants against the lower storey of the house. In 1988, the then current owner Dr Mules retired, he put Cliffden House up for sale with the understanding that it would be used for "greater good". The House was purchased by Guide Dogs for the blind and converted to a hotel which offer accommodation to both blind, sighted and partially sighted guests. The hotel now sits in 7 acres of landscaped gardens, and a short walk through these private grounds brings you to the glorious seafront at Teignmouth. ... more   less
