Our family, our group of grandparents, parents and kids all stayed at the monarch late last year. This is a substantially large self catering house. It was very clean, spacious and comfortable and perfect for our large family. The kitchen is a good size and we cooked up our favourite curry dishes. The kids loved all of the outside space,...

Just come back from staying here with friends. Great location, great holiday house. From the moment we arrived, driving up the tree lined driveway through the security gates we passed an old church ruin which is in the grounds next to the house. Just amazing! We stayed for a long weekend and because of its location, got to see a...

This hotel is now closed to the general public after a change of ownership, and is letting out on a self catering basis only. After changing hands it updated the décor and rooms and menu but unfortunately after trying the meals twice we found it to lack in atmosphere with the owners not being very friendly, and the meals overpriced....

Stayed there as a large group taking the self catering experience. everything was made available to us and the owner was very helpful and very quickly resolved any minor issues that we had. Rooms were spacious and the house was overall well equipped with everything that we would need, minus food and drink. Within good distance of fort william. Helped...

What can I say, not sure what the previous review is all about! We happen to have been at this hotel when the wedding party stayed and I must say, there is nothing bad to comment on. OK, so they lost their chef. We knew that and we were staying on a B & B basis because Neil, the owner,...

Got a call from the owner Neil to let us know the chef had left, Now I know why!!!! We couldn't wait to leave either. You cannot fault the Staff, they were helpful especially Anne the Housekeeper and Stephanie the barmaid/chef/waitress/general everything. The owners were no where to be seen, oh apart from when he took the Glory for serving...

Just back from a week staying in a self catering cottage in Laggan. We had several meals (and one overnight stay) in The Monarch Hotel during our stay and the experience was a breath of fresh air. The hotel and ruin are in a beautiful, romantic location and the food was excellent (we had 3 lunches and two dinners!) but...

The food was good, waiting on staff very good, drinks very overpriced and served in inappropriate glasses and no lemon for a G&T! (cucumber was offered from kitchen). Proprietor inflexible, surly and made "Basil Fawlty" look positively professional. Bar was shut before 10.00 whilst customers were still in the lounge giving the feeling that you have overstayed your welcome. It...

We booked two rooms here as we were touring the area with my daughter. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the bed was perfect, so slept well. We had a dinner in the hotel's restaurant and this was excellent, we all had different mains and it was of a very high standard, followed by another fulfilling meal in the...
