This review is long overdue. We were at this hotel from May 2 to May 16th. We spent the first week in the spa section and the second week at the Coral level. Our experiences were very different for each. My husband and I have been coming to this hotel annually and sometimes twice a year since 2008. We have travelled all over the Caribbean but once we found this place we knew we found our home away from home. We arrived after 11PM and check in was quick and efficient. We were in building 20 which was ideally located near the main lobby etc. The room was clean but drawers were hard to open and the mattress was stained. In hindsight I wish I hadn’t looked at it. We looked at relocating but all 3 rooms had the same stained mattresses. The only thing in the fridge was water that wasn’t bottled but in glass bottles that were “sealed” by paper. Yet you could buy bottled water in the store. We only used bottled water that we bought because we were concerned about the fact that no bottled water was being used as in the past. We met quite a few people who were sick with vomiting and diarrhea. The situation since our last trip here in 2020 has gone downhill. The hotel is very dated and needs an overhaul. All the furniture with fabric should be either cleaned or reupholstered. All mattresses should be replaced as the existing ones have a lot of stains. The sanitary situation in the buffet is appalling. There are birds flying everywhere. Bird poop all over the chairs and the chairs have horrible stains. This is very unsanitary and unacceptable. The public washrooms had either no soap, no toilet paper or no paper towels. The drying machine in the washrooms didn’t always work. The food and beverages were a problem for a lot of people but not for us. We always found something to eat plus we don’t go there for the food. When there were no eggs they would make savoury or sweet crepes. There was always fresh fruit which we really enjoyed. Watermelon, papaya, pineapple, guavas, bananas and mangoes. We had a great meal in the Japanese restaurant and a mediocre one at the Punta Pirata. We found out from other guests that the Japanese restaurant had cockroaches on the floor and tables. We didn’t witness any of that during our dinner but they did close the buffet and Japanese restaurant one night to fumigate. Megano beach is as beautiful as ever but very noisy. The entertainment staff had the radio blaring and loud on their microphones. I understand they have a job to do but the radio being that loud was unnecessary. My husband developed an irritation in his eye and we went to see the doctor which is in building 21. The doctor wasn’t there but the nurse flushed his eye and said it was irritated from the suntan lotion and gave him prednisone drops. His eye improved but was still giving him trouble. A friend who works at the hotel arranged for us to see an ophthalmologist in Remedios. The ophthalmologist knew right away what was wrong and prescribed another drop for his eye. The nurse was on the right track but he needed the other drops as well. We went to the local pharmacy in Remedios and luckily they had the drops. His eye got better within 24 hours. The wifi worked but you would have to input the user name and password throughout the day as it would disconnect constantly which was a real nuisance. CORAL LEVEL 5***** Our second week was at the Coral level and it was wonderful. The beach is much quieter and just as beautiful as Megano beach but not enough palapas for the number of guests. We were at the beach very early so we always had a palapa but after 10 it was difficult to get one. The rooms are much larger and included a kitchenette, living and dining rooms. We enjoyed having a jacuzzi on the balcony. The cleaning staff did excellent work keeping the suite cleaned. We never had to use the butler. Not sure what they do really. We met Luis who is the General Manager at the Coral section. He tries very hard to make sure the guests are happy. During our week at the Coral level there were no food or drink shortages. Breakfast was excellent and served at the Colonial restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the fruit, omelettes and poached eggs. Lunch was at the beach restaurant and offered a variety of different options, pork, chicken, fish, sandwiches etc. All ordered off the menu. Dinner of course was at the Colonial restaurant and although only the 2 same menus were offered the food was very, very good. We did go into Caibarien and spent the day there with our Cuban family. We were lucky to get a taxi for $70 Canadian to go and come back. In summary we will return but only to stay at the Coral section. Unless things improve in the main building we will not stay there. I would also like to add that the number one reason besides the beach that we return is the wonderful staff we have come to know over the years. The staff work very hard given the situation handed to them. They go above and beyond to make sure guests are happy. A big thank you to Yaquenia, Diana, Yuri, Alexander and Gustavo. Not sure what it will take to improve the situation given the fact that complaints fall on deaf hears. The situation in Cuba is complicated. Only time will tell. I hope this very long summary helps someone who is thinking about going to this hotel. I would be happy to answer any questions.

We went in March for a family holiday. One thing I have to say the staff at this location are amazing. Very warm and they work with what they have. Unfortunately, the resort is in need of a full overhaul. AND my daughter and husband were devoured with bedbugs in room 2126. Beware! Another person posted on here that she stayed in that room earlier (unfortunately she posted it after we were there) and they still didn't rectify when we got there. My husband ended up with an infection and had to go on antibiotics. My daughter had a severe reaction due to the extent of the bites and she fell ill. We filed a complaint with the resort itself, as well as Iberostar head office and with Air Transat as that is who we booked with. After I repeatedly tried to get answers, they offered a 10% refund which I said that was not enough. Last Friday I received a cheque in the mail for $145.00. Seriously!!??? Slap in the face! Check out the pictures and see what my family had to go through.

Where do I start by all means this is the worst resort I have stayed in an all inclusive. The staff are very friendly towards the guests but overall experience Is bad I would rate this resort 2* The food is inedible very minimal choice at the buffet and 1 alla carte restaurant opened for dinner. The resort seems like it is falling apart and run down the water slides in the pool were broken for the entire week I was there with kids so disappointing. I saw roaches in the buffet and the bread station totally unexceptable stay away do not recommend this hotel

My first time in Iberostar Selection Ensenachos. We chose this resort for having the 4.5 star in reviews. Very clean place. The food were fine for me. The rooms were clean. The pool were fantastic. The beach were excellent. All bars offered drinks of what we need. Anytime there's capuccino. The wait staff were friendly. And the entertainers from Star Friends were excellent. We were kept entertained. Thumbs up to all members of Star Friends of ISE....Iberostar Selection Ensenachos. Shout out to Osmany, Hector, Ray, Michael(Maikol) Miguel, SexyMama, Vladimir and Gilmore. If I missed someone but you are all very professional. They are all very friendly. Everyday there is an activity at daytime and every night there is show to watch. I like dancing so I always joined them specially with the music of Madre Tierra. 😍I highly recommend this resort. Will come back again. 🤩Thanks everyone to all ISE staffs and entertainers. We all misses you. ❤️❤️❤️

Covid has taken its toll on this property. The staff is wonderful but they don’t have the tools to give customers what they paid for. We were there for one week and there was no mint available to make their national drink a Mojito until the day we left. So very sad.

I stayed at this hotel from August 20th until August 27th in sector 34, and my recommendation is to avoid this hotel. My "adventure" started one week before when I sent an email to the hotel requesting a room on the second floor with three beds, as we were traveling with 2 kids. I received an email back letting me know they were working on it. Once we arrived at the hotel, we noticed a big crowd of people (I will come back to this topic) in the lobby, and I went to reception hoping our room was ready. Surprise 1: I was told that our room is on the ground floor and has 2 beds. I explained that this is not what we requested. She also told me that they received my email and gave me what I requested. I showed my email, and their response was that the hotel is full and they gave me the only available room. Since I didn't want to start a debate after a 3-hour and 30-minute flight plus 1 hour and 30 minutes by bus with 2 kids, I said, "Okay." Surprise 2: While we were waiting for the car to take us to our room, a big line of people was also waiting to go to their rooms, and there was only one car available. Once we were in the car heading to our room, we found that the hotel hadn't turned on the lights at night (and never would). Once the driver left us at our sector, we used our lanterns (remember, there were no lights) to guide us. Surprise 3: In the room, after I put the kids to sleep (1:00 AM) and I opened the fridge, I found that it was empty (and would never be filled). I discovered a glass water bottle in the bathroom. I found it "interesting" how they "sealed the bottle" by adding a handmade plastic label, giving you no guarantee of the type of water you are drinking. Surprise 4: At the buffet, the coffee cups were dirty, and there was only the same fruit: small pieces of mango, watermelon, and guava (nothing else). There were no fresh eggs; they had run out of fresh eggs and never replaced them. I also have to mention that the waiters had a very bad attitude when serving you. You had to call them many times if you wanted to get a coffee. Surprise 5: The night before our arrival, there was a big music festival, and the hotel hosted many Cuban dancers and their families. However, it seemed like they didn't plan for this big crowd. For two nights, it was almost impossible to get a drink at night, and the buffet was full. It seemed like the party was only for Cubans. Surprise 6: Once the Cuban artists went to their homes (after two days), the hotel had the idea of rewarding their employees by having a party in the main pool. We arrived at 5:00 PM and noticed loud music, which we didn't mind, and many people dancing and yelling. We were astonished when one of the pool cleaning personnel requested us to leave the pool. When I asked why, since it was only 5:00 PM, he mentioned that he was going to add chlorine due to urine. Surprise 7: In our building, we found broken glass in the aisle, which was very dangerous for kids. I requested it to be cleaned up, but they never did. Surprise 8: When we were leaving, we requested a car that never arrived. We had to carry our luggage on foot. In summary, the only good thing about this hotel is the beach. Everything else was a complete disappointment.

Unfortunately, the quality of this hotel has diminished substantially since I visited the first time in 2018. 1-The hotel stopped stocking the fridge with bottled water and replaced them with purified water instead. Don't expect to find beer either, compared to 2018 2-The hotel is literally falling apart. The windows had no locking mechanisms, making the, already inefficient, air conditioning even less efficient. Leaky faucet and showerhead with almost no pressure. Several parts of the room had mildew build-up. Unwatchable TV due to mediocre image quality. Outside of the rooms, the bungalow was blacked out. Not a single light bulb outside of the room, making visibility extremely poor at night. The paths leading to the bungalows, except for few places, had no lanterns, making it difficult finding your way around the humongous resort complex. Overall, the resort feels neglected and abandoned. 3-Sanitary conditions were less than ideal. Outside of the bungalow, in the main court, there sat an empty bottle of beer for all to see for an entire week before finally being picked up by the staff. Right at the entrance of the bungalow, there was a broken glass that was hard to miss for several days, yet at the time I checked out that broken glass was still there. In one of the restaurants, I found, what seemed to be a cigarette butt under the table cloth while I was eating, another one on the floor under the table. The various restroom in the lobby were badly maintained and smelly. Oh! Also something crawled back and forth behind the molding in the room every night. Is it a lizard? A mouse or a rat? Who knows? One morning, I asked the staff to change three coffee cups because they were stained and unwashed. 4-Other than the nightly show held in the auditorium, which lasted only 30 mins, entertainment was inexistant. If you were hoping to enjoy live Cuban music, be it Son Cubano, Charanga, Guajira, Bolero or any traditional Cuban music, this hotel is not for you. The evenings were, at times, boring. I don't know what made management think that putting a speaker in the lobby and playing a playslist on repeat every day, was good entertainment. 5-Overall the staff was professional and very kind and courteous, a few however were indifferent to client comfort who at times felt neglected. The staff was overwhelmed twice back to back when the resort was swarmed by locals following an international music festival that was held at a different venue not far from the hotel, causing mayhem and chaos both at the bar and the lobby. Even the cigar lounge was packed with non smokers and full of children, which is extremely irresponsible of the management. 6-While I do understand that Cuba is currently going through some tough times, and that resources are hard to come by, and I usually have very low expectations food wise, the quality of food in this hotel particularly was below average. It was often cold and mushy. I actually had much better quality, even surpassing my expectations, last year in two different hotels in Varadero. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all!

We are currently at this hotel and were in Holguin at the Gran Muthu Almirante last month. I don’t want to compare the 2 resorts, but it’s hard not to. This resort, the Iberostar Eschenacos is old, dated and the food is terrible. We are not picky eaters, but found the food awful. There are VERY few options and everything is cold and bland. Also, the rooms are extremely dated and in major need of renovations. To add to that, the rooms smell of heavy mold and are completely run down. Nothing in the room fridge including no water. The only saving grace at this hotel is the stunning beach, one of the best I’ve ever been to and the amazing staff, always courteous, pleasant and willing to help. Unfortunately, we will not return to this hotel as Cuba is known for its beautiful beaches and we can find them elsewhere. It’s really too bad.

want to write a real review so that people really think before going to this hotel. I hate to leave a bad review but this hotel was very boring. There was nothing about this hotel that gave you a fun vibe the pool bar had no music which I found crazy, there was no entertainment at all except for one night someone was singing in the lobby. I went with my friend we were two ladies and they chose to put us very far from the lobby in a room with no phone how is that okay? We wouldn't be able to call for a bell boy to bring us to the beach or the pool bar or lobby anything. If I wanted to walk 24/7 I would go to the gym it was horrible! The air conditioning in the room we were told was only working at 50% plus the fridge didn't work. When trying to change our room we were told it's not possible or talk to this person or that person. Wait until the morning when the manager comes in just giving us the run around. We finally got it changed on the day before we were to go home and things got better because now we had a phone to call when we needed a bell boy to pick us up and bring us somewhere. Also the air conditioning and fridge were working in the new room I just wish they would of let us change our room when we first came to them. The food was not good at all not even a real beef burger and fries you could get. The beach was pretty very clear and beautiful but it was empty no one there. We made the most of the trip but it was very boring no music no vibes just quiet and relaxing that's about it. I would never go back! My advice to the Mangement of the hotel is to try and make it more fun it's a vacation have a DJ by the pool bar and maybe have some food at the beach with some music there as well. Listen to people when they have valid concerns and find a solution right away we don't have time to wait days for action when our time is limited. I do want to shout out duvier one of the bell boys who was very helpful and acommadating. Also Jose the server who was very sweet and friendly everytime he served us. They both should be promoted this is how you treat your guests both were amazing!
