Truly wonderful place. As a family of 4 we were with 5 other people for our trekking and it was a great group with a wonderful guide (Catherine). The cabins are lovely (although not sure the plunge pools are worth the extra money... it was like an outdoor bath). Food really good and varied - including a range of international and malaysian cuisine (which worked well for my husband's allergies to chilli!). It could do with better wifi in the restaurant/reception area - it was very intermittent. This place was 100% the favourite time of everyone in the family in a 3 week trip. It costs a lot, but it's worth it. This is the real rainforest, nothing else compares. Amazing offer on laundry too - 50 RM (about 10 UK pounds) for a massive bag of washing - which when you are…
Our chalet was quite old and dated, with dirty walls stained with insect’s blood everywhere, some objects had not been cleaned in ages and were covered with a thick layer of dust, the ceiling fan made an annoying noise so we had to decide not to turn it on. Food was good although the restaurant staff could be friendlier. The guide was great. As for the reception, it was a total mess. They didn’t inform us about anything as far as our check out process was concerned: the time we had to leave the chalet, what to do with our suitcases, pick-up time for the transfer, etc. When we asked one of the receptionists about it, she answered in a very curt and harsh way that we would be informed later and she just told us to leave the room at 11 and go to the restaurant area for lunch at 12…
My first regret is that we did not stay longer at this perfect place in paradise. My second regret is that I should have booked the stay through Borneo Nature Tours who own the lodge. We were transported to the lodge in the Danum Valley after meeting in Lahad Datu for registration and mandatory RAT tests. (We were not informed of this by the tour operator that we used). All good to go and game spotting began as we entered the conservation area. Whilst there is an abundance of game, it is not that easy to spot! The lodge itself is rustic but beautiful. The rooms were well appointed and exceptionally equipped- rechargeable torches, binoculars, tea and coffee facilities, air con and fans, hairdryer, etc etc The food was a gastronomic delight- fresh fruit, international and…
Superb experience in the jungle with great food and top service by the friendly staff! Our guide, Dexter, made our stay so memorable. He was good at explaining about nature and spotting animals! The food was buffett style with news dishes every time. The hike to the viewpoint with a swim afterwards in a waterfall was great!
Family of 4 (children 9y/o and 4 y/o). We could not have dreamed of a better trip. We spent 3D2N and had an action packed stay with some extraordinary sightings of the diverse animal, insect and plant life. Our guide, Rudi Amit, was phenomenal. He is very experienced and knowledgeable and was very engaged with our family. He tailored the treks and activities to our needs and was very patient and friendly particularly given our youngest was only 4 years old. We could not have dreamed of a better trip. We highly recommend the rainforest lodge to anyone visiting Borneo!
When we stepped into BRF office to register, we instantly knew that this was a different ball game from the other jungle lodges we had been to so far. This is a larger, more commercial operation. A beautiful lodge set in primary forest. (What a treat). Food excellent. Service exceptional. Danum is tantalising. It is dense forest that is full of animals and birds. But they can be hard to find and hard to photograph because the forest is so dark and/or the birds so high up in the trees. But patience is rewarded. A fantastic experience.
We had a fantastic time. Our daughter is 8. Our allocated guide Dexter was fantastic at finding animals telling us all about them. Food was awesome and the chef July catered individually for for our vegetarian. Meira at the bar was super friendly and helpful.
We stayed two nights and wished we had three. We splurged on a premium deluxe room over looking the river with a private plunge pool. We were in PD1 which is closest to the main building where the restaurant is. The room was massive with two king sized beds and a huge deck. The restaurant had an amazing selection of dishes and service was top notch. If you want wine, you have to buy a bottle, but we just took ours back to the room and brought it back the next night. We had an early trek on our first morning and they opened early to let us get our made-to-order breakfast before the excursion. We had a private guide, Rudi, who was exceptional at spotting animals and shared the same love of the primates as we did. He shared a lot of history on the region, people and animals. …
We stayed at the lodge for 3D/2N and had an amazing stay. The accommodations are excellent, however, where they truly excel is the kindness and hospitality of the staff as well as the expertise of the guides - ask for AK when making your reservation as he was the best guide we have ever experienced. If you go to Borneo, this place is a must on your itinerary.
From the minute you arrive everybody makes you feel so special. This really is a wonderful place. We were blessed with Nevin and Deodrie who were our guides. Our first night walk we saw a clouded leopard cat. Just walking through the undergrowth. We were informed about all the insects trees and animals and Nevin was so well informed. The next day we climbed to the coffin. On the way up we saw an orang-utan swinging in the trees. We thought we had seen it all. Up at the waterfalls we got into the pools and cooled off. As we headed home we got to the bridge and by chance a male flanged orang-utan was chilling hanging on the bridge. This was our only route so we waited and observed. It really was the best part of my whole holiday. An hour later with a little adventure we…
