My take. Your views please

Facing the Danum River with a natural rainforest all around the visitor , the Danum Rainforest Lodge offers the visitor a glimpse of a natural world that probably began 130 million years ago.
The endemic flora and fauna in this vast reserve of 480 sq hectares live free, where the visitor is treated to the theatre of natural sounds , smells and movement of its unique inhabitants both day and night.
The quiet air and the stunning morning mist greets the visitor at sunrise.
The trees reach to the heavens and cradled within the lush foliage , live an equally stunning array of animal life where the Orang Hutan and the Pigmy Elephants freely forage for food. I am thankful for the knowledge of my own insignificance in the natural forest.
It was a truly memorable time for all 19 of us for 4 days.

Thank you so very much to Sail Jamaluddin and his talented team of 70 who manage the high standards of culinary delight snd creature comfort that we enjoyed so very much. We were
fortunate to witness the contrasting splendour of a 5 star service and natural trails all nestled within this part of Danum Valley

This reserve enabled us to get right off the beaten track and experience the rain forest whilst staying in luxury accommodation. We had an incredible time and did see an orangutan. The guides and staff were all wonderful. The meals were totally delicious and catered to every taste.

The Borneo Rainforest Lodge is a remarkable property located 2.5 hours away from the nearest down. Deep in the jungle of Borneo.
This is one of the last primal rainforests on earth.
The lodge is highly luxurious while also built in a non evasive manner in the surroundings.
The all inclusive meals are outstanding. Service is equally elegant and efficient.
Our nature guide - Rudi - was deeply sincere and caring that we saw as much wildlife as possible.

Great stay. Only let down was the deluxe river view room. There was nothing deluxe about it. It was in great need of renovation, the air condition unit leaked water so was a hazard, one of the lights in the bathroom did not work, the room was redculously dark do if you have poor eyesight it is not suitable for you and the so called dip pool was not even a pool and had no water in it. The good side was the food was excellent and the head waiter was very charming, welcoming and made sure all diets were catered for. The other highlight was our private guide Nicholad who could not do enough for us from making sure we had the best wildlife viewing, great photo moments and even gave us certificates for completing the challenging coffin trail hike which is definitely recommending if you are fit.

We didn’t read any reviews nor researched much prior to arriving and thus had zero expectations of this place. On the drive to Danum Valley, a pair of barking deers crossed our path. A sign of things to come. We got the Premium Deluxe Villa. The villa was very spacious, had an outdoor plunge pool and it was great to sit out on the deck. We spotted orang utans on one of the hikes and that made the whole trip! We expected bugs, leeches and zero or little network coverage and got all that. Although we were told that cables are currently (as of Dec 22) being laid so you may get good network coverage in the future. The Lodge is expanding and along with the network cable works seem counter to conservation efforts. Nevertheless there is nothing like spotting wild animals in their habitat. The food here is great, a good mix of local and western, and the wine selection could be more robust. Visiting Danum Valley is one of our best experiences ever. Oh! Bring water shoes for the jagged rocks at the waterfall and river!

From the minute you arrive everybody makes you feel so special. This really is a wonderful place. We were blessed with Nevin and Deodrie who were our guides. Our first night walk we saw a clouded leopard cat. Just walking through the undergrowth. We were informed about all the insects trees and animals and Nevin was so well informed. The next day we climbed to the coffin. On the way up we saw an orang-utan swinging in the trees. We thought we had seen it all. Up at the waterfalls we got into the pools and cooled off. As we headed home we got to the bridge and by chance a male flanged orang-utan was chilling hanging on the bridge. This was our only route so we waited and observed. It really was the best part of my whole holiday. An hour later with a little adventure we managed to get past and head back. The food, staff, accommodation , all absolutely amazing. If you get put off by the2 hr bumpy road. Please reconsider this really is the best place to see nature at its best. Lastly we tubed down the river to the sounds of the jungle. All just magnificent. Thank you guys. Made our 25th Wedding anniversary very special.. Ooh. Don't forget your leech socks !!!!!!

Family of 4 (children 9y/o and 4 y/o). We could not have dreamed of a better trip. We spent 3D2N and had an action packed stay with some extraordinary sightings of the diverse animal, insect and plant life. Our guide, Rudi Amit, was phenomenal. He is very experienced and knowledgeable and was very engaged with our family. He tailored the treks and activities to our needs and was very patient and friendly particularly given our youngest was only 4 years old. We could not have dreamed of a better trip. We highly recommend the rainforest lodge to anyone visiting Borneo!

We stayed two nights at the end of our tour with Borneo Eco Tours. Warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, found our room to be in great condition, fridge was replenished every day and air conditioning working. The location can't be beat and while it is a 3 hour drive from Lahad Datu, you are right in the middle of the rainforest. The food was excellent and so were our guides who spotted amazing wildlife. We saw Orangutans, the rare Gibbons, red leaf monkeys, rufous backed kingfishers and plenty of other birds... Highlight was a big male orangutan who visited the lodge one day and mom and baby orangutan in the jungle. A once in a lifetime experience.

Fantastic place. The main attraction here is the thick forest and sky touching trees. Wildlife is sparse and rare to see but you can enjoy the forest itself. Trails have lots of leeches so be prepared mentally if you are going for any trail. Trails are not suitable for children and elderly as they are inside thick forest and mostly uneven surfaces with bugs.

Choose Premium deluxe room with pool. Guide Ali is best and he spots animals at a far distance without binoculars.

Food is ok but not very appealing, can't expect more from the middle of the jungle.
Service is top notch and staff are well trained.

The lodge is truly an incredible experience, surrounded by pristine rainforest with the chance of seeing wild life on a daily basis. Our guide, Sher Wood, was very knowledgable and let us take things at our own pace which my family and I really appreciated. We had amazing hikes through the rainforest and even the journey to the lodge was enjoyable with a good driver and vehicle. The hospitality and service at the lodge was very warm and welcoming and we are grateful to the staff for taking such good care of us. We very much look forward to hopefully visiting again! Thank you.

It depends. Are you really into rainforest ecology and does your private guide have a masters degree or higher in tropical forestry or evolutionary biology? Do you have a special trail you want to hike? Do you want a special birding trip? Is someone in your group disabled and in need of special assistance or a slower pace? If so then it definitely could be worth it, especially if you’re bringing a scientist from DVFC. None of the people at BRL are rainforest ecologists but most belong to the native Dusun tribe and have tremendous indigenous knowledge of the forest. Having two guides, one scientist from DVFC and one native guide from BRL is what I would do if I had unlimited money and time to arrange the tour. But it depends on what you want.

Hi, I had military jungle boots which I usually use during such a trips but I saw many tourist in trainers and it seemed to be ok. IMHO leech socks are more crucial ;)

Hello, does the BRL accept credit card? Roughly how much for a beer? Thank you.

Yes they do take credit card. I think a beer was around £5-£6. It wasn't out of line with other lodges.
