My boyfriend was very keen to explore Mangamomona and of course to get a stamp as a proof and a fun thing to have so we decided to include it in our route in North Island. "the forgotten highway" isn't anywhere near forgotten and different to any other road in NZ... no service AT ALL NO WHERE for 3 hours...

We thought the room was lovely. We were the only people staying so did not have to share a bathroom - normally you do. Everything was lovely and clean and the Hotel has been renovated to a good standard. The dinner was pleasant enough and the continental breakfast was fine. I guess I was a little disappointed in the hospitality...

My workmate and I had to work in Whangamomona area. We chose the pub for accommodation and food etc. Turned out to be a good choice, there is bugger all food and accommodation out that way. We were both happy with the pub, good hosts and food etc in a building with a lot of character. Would be really good...

Great to see that old NZ is loved in this Hotel. Staff were great, and was very impressed that you were taken upstairs and given evacuation procedures in case this lovely building had a fire. The rooms were clean, beds and pillows were great, and beer and wine were outstanding, not to mention a great selection of single malt whiskeys.

New Zealand's Fawlty Towers Discovered Lodged deep in the bush of New Zealand's North Island lies the now virtual ghost town of Whangamomona ( pronounced fong .a . mom.o.nah , and known by the locals simply as "Whanga") . Once a thriving railway junction that served towns in the neighbouring provinces of Taranaki and The King Country, "Whanga" boasted, besides...

We stopped here during our trip down the forgotten highway...it is really the only place you can stop and it was a good place to get a coffee and lemonade and use the bathrooms before we continued on.

Just returned from an awesome stay at the Whangamomona Hotel. What a superb place to visit and stay. The staff , facilities and food were "the best". We stayed in a room on the groundfloor which had recently been refurbished and new toilet /shower/bathroom built, this bathroom is also wheelchair friendly. The room was really nice...opening up into a lovely...

Yes, a long way from anywhere, but has good, well priced food, a number of great beers brewed at Hawkes Bay just for this hotel, plenty of wines, AND, the famous passport to the "Republic of Whangamomona". Don;t knock them back for the $5 it costs because firstly it is a genuine bit of a hoot, and secondly it raises...

Just had a great time, along with 24 friends, staying at the Whangamomona Hotel, after a day on the old rail trail. I recommend the one day trip from Taumaranui, stay the night in the Hotel then bus back. The Hotel food was above average, the rooms were old fashioned but clean and the bathrooms down the hall were like...

Well overpriced for an old fashined pub.Be aware that the tariff is per person not per night.Rooms are very basic and if you are at the wrong end you walk the length of hotel to the bathroom.Stop for a coffee if you must and take the 3minute lookaround.
