Sitting on a hill overlooking a large plain the Kisampa Bush Retreat is a wonderful place to unwind and to enjoy the surrounding nature and peace of the wilderness. The guardian of 80 sq kms of conservation area Kisampa is run as ecologically as possible with solar power running most of the necessary services. Generators are seldom used and the... More

The retreat is built on a Conservation area of about 80 sq kms bordered by the Wami River. Being about 9 kms from the nearest village there is no traffic and no passers by. The camp sits on a hill overlooking pristine countryside with the occasional game wandering into sight below. The lodge is built from renewable local products such... More

We reached Kisampa in order to meet and talk with "Doctor Rob", owner not only of the lodge, but also of several eco projects in Africa. The location in the top of the hill is wonderful, and the respect for the local communities is really unique. A few nice huts, without any walls ensure a complete immersion in the environment.... Absolutely the most beautiful 'room' we have ever stayed in - a totally open-sided banda with huge shady area, hammocks strung up and vast mosquito-netted bed - all with gorgeous views and starry sky above. The bathroom was totally open air and just lovely. Though it is very hot at this time of year, it was easy to catch a... More

On behalf of the Kisampa team, thank you very much for writing. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Kisampa. We are also very delighted to hear you appreciated our concept, indeed we are not a wildlife destination but rather an experience very close to nature such that our daily programs are not made of the traditional... This is a beautifully designed camp with many aspects and a fabulous location set on top of an escarpment overlooking the plains so with fabulous scenery. You feel very close to nature with the open design of the camp and the atmosphere is very settling and relaxing. The bandias are all open too with the bed centrally located under a... More

Dear Steve, Thanks for your very constructive feedback, we really appreciate it. As you mentioned, it had been too dry at the time of your travel and the bees had been looking for any source of water they can find. Sadly it was the first time we experienced that kind of a situation and we were caught unprepared over what... More

If you want to add an unusual element into your trip to mainland Tanzania, go to Kisampa. We wanted to do something other than big game watching from the back of a jeep (wonderful though that is) where we would connect a little more with the people and the country; where we could do some walking and birdwatching. We found... More

I stayed here with my sister and my brother in law for 2 nights but had my own banda to myself. I absolutely loved it and enjoyed the serene location as it's situated on a private owned land. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kisampa is set in a pristine, wild area in eastern Tanzania. The region is filled with ox-bow lakes, riverine forests, open grassland, wild rolling hills and steep ridges that provide breath taking views of the surrounding areas. The diverse habitat makes it a birders paradise. Wildlife is shy but increasing with the protection now provided in the sanctuary. This is a private community conservation sanctuary adjacent to the unique coastal Saadani National Park. Situated on a remote hilltop with a vista of the plains below, Kisampa is a special place. So special, in fact, that some of the AfrikaAfrika team live here permanently! Kisampa is the ultimate bush retreat - a place where you can turn off from all the stress, pressure and noise. This place has been brilliant for yoga retreats, personal meditation and simply the ultimate place to wind down. This is furthermore a birders paradise and Kisampa has a few secluded birding platforms where you can spend the day relaxing and watching some of east Africa's finest bird life. We also pride ourselves here with divine "country style" lunches of freshly baked bread from our brick oven, hearty soups and salads along fresh seasonal fruit for desert. Here we offer you a personal journey, an experience full of meaning - not just another destination. We will lead you on a superb exploration that will take you into the heart of this amazing little piece of Africa. Because it's our own sanctuary, you won't bump into other safari-goers anywhere on Kisampa. We keep your experience intimate and personal. This is an adventure that will get you thinking. It will stretch your mind (just as much as your legs) and Africa will get under your skin. Welcome to Kisampa - Where Africa awakens your soul! ... more   less
