We have taken a half board and to our surprise buffer dinner was empty at 19.00. Too little food for many guests during the weekend. We were waiting for 30 min buffer was not filled. Hotel itself is OK. Rooms were not cleaned for 2 days. I guess they do not clean during the stay - only after departure- which is also strange. Over all very bad experience

We selected this hotel after reading the location and the facilities in the hotel. The welcome is pleasant and friendly. The room is spacious with good beds. The bathroom has enough space, for safety reason the shower with a high step -in should be replaced by a walk -in shower. The dining area has several locations with different atmosphere. The selection of food is great and wel presented. The breakfast has a selection for everyones taste. The serving personnel is quick and friendly. A remark: We forgot one of our bags the reception took action to send it to my home address. Bag is on his way. Good location for walking and cycling. For site seeing there are several interesting places to visit

We stayed with a 20 people hiking group in the Baerenstein hotel. All rooms were in a good and clean condition. The equipment was working well. The quality of the restaurant for a dinner was excellent. The service team was very friendly and helpful. Our big group got a nice table for the breakfast. The hotel has a work-out room and a swimming pool. Overall the stay was very comfortable and enjoyable, so that I can recommend the Barenstein hotel.

We ate here one night in August 2016 and had an excellent family meal. The food and wine was local and top quality. Staff were friendly and helpful. We did book ahead to be safe and as you would expect we sat down at our table at the exact time of the booking. Highly recommended.

Stayed here when I explored Externsteine. It is a twenty minute walk in the woods to the rock outcrops. They have a lovely pool and sauna with other spa options on the property. It is an older hotel but clean and well cared for. Not all staff can speak English but they are very kind to you and it all works out. It's a very reasonable rate for good food, pretty stay and hardy breakfast buffet. I will stay there again if I can ever go back!

The Waldhotel Bärenstein is situated in a quiet area. Just leave the front door and you walk into the Teutoburgerwald, where, especially during weekdays you hardly see anyone else. So it is advisible to stay on the well-maintaned foothpaths, since after 20 years we did not succeed in buying any good maps of the footpaths. The hotel is a former "Kurort", nowadays they focus on wellness. There is a nice, large indoor swimmingpool (27C) and there are 2 sauna's- a regular and biosauna. The rooms are rather large, although a great deal of them are rather old school, with very old, but large bathrooms, they are very comfortable and clean. Some rooms are modernised, but unfortunately they offer less privacy (the other hotelrooms can just look straight into your room). Breakfast is o.k. Staff is very friendly and helpfull.

The hotel is very well located on the edge of the Teutoburg forest and close to the Externesteine. Both are magical in many ways. At the hotel everything was as it should be. However our experience was slightly spoiled by the service at the restaurant. We were ignored and even admonished by one the waiters.

Superb hotel, very friendly staff, very clean throughout. Large dining room, plenty of space to be separate if you need to. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Food all good quality, dishes replaced regularly. Room was not as big as we expected, but it had a lovely balcony and as the weather was excellent we used it a great deal. Beds were very comfortable, clean and the room was serviced daily. Very quite and relaxing hotel - it has been a really good few days. Car parking was easy and free too.

This hotel is without a doubt the most welcoming and comfortable place we have ever stayed. The facilities were outstanding and the location was perfect. If you enjoy the outdoors then this is the place for you. The scenery is breathtaking and the are many beautiful walks you can do before returning to the hotel to relax or maybe take a swim in the pool. Other facilities include sauna x 2, steam room, jacuzzi, gymnasium and various beauty treatments and therapy/treatments available. We occupied rooms on the top floor and they were first class, with far reaching views of the surrounding forest, I would thoroughly recommend them (145 and adjoining lounge). Contrary to a previous review the food is all prepared and cooked on site and the menu reflects the imagination and expertise of the chef, fine dining at its best. We stayed for 11 nights and there was not one repeat meal and all meals were absoloutely delicious. Finally the staff payed great attention to detail and were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The manageress in particular went out of her way to see that we were well looked after. In summary a great hotel that I would not hesitate to recommend, to anyone. We shall deffinately be looking forward to our next visit.
