The hotel is located in a beautifull landscape at the western edge of the national park of the Veluwe , with its drifting sand dunes, moores, forest and large patches of heather.
It is ideal for wanderes and bikers both sportive and for pure relaxation.
The hotel is housed in an old stately house or villa, has a lovely terras with good midday and afternoon sun , pleasant staff, the restaurant has stil this old style design with open fires and so on. A nice detail is in the fact that they burn large candles at several place in the restaurant. It makes it cosy
The food is good, and well served by the young staff. We had the idea that the hotel is in a new aera, with young management eager to make the place a success. They are on the right track
Things to improve; the wall of our room nr 42 was damaged, the plaster came of the wall at one spot, the tiles at the badroomfloor are not pleasant to your feet , some are uneven and with sharp edges, this can be improved with no much effort . The bed was ok , furniture a bit out if date but functional
In general; a good place to stay, great outdoors around the corner
Admittedly we were the youngest in the hotel by quite some distance, but that appears to be because the hotel is used by tourists, who are in the area.
Set amongst part of the forest I loved the location for the hotel and the quirks that the whole property has.
My room was in the annexe section past the dining area which seemed to have been added to the main building at some point in the distant past.
The room was large enough, clean and comfortable and overlooked the main garden and bar patio area.
The full board booking we had included dinner as well as breakfast and a packed lunch. Breakfast has a wide variety of continental food and pastry items as well as some warm selections.
Dinner was interesting as it is based on a fixed menu which appeared to rotate around a 3 day cycle, which is likely to be perfect for those people on short stays but the longer week long guests soon tire of the same option!
I can understand why some feedback suggests that portion size was a little on the small side but I would counter that with the portion sizes being good and enough, considering the number of courses presented and the fact we are more likely wearing bigger portions elsewhere!
The grounds are excellent and the hotel is a short walk from the train station and about a 10 minute walk in to the main town.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again and recommend the hotel for a visit if you find yourself in the area!
The setting and presentation of the hotel itself get 5 stars.
The rooms are very basic, 3 stars:
the beds are very very comfortable (two singles, pushed together. This is common in Europe), the bathroom is good/satisfactory, the woodburning fireplace inside each room is a wonderful feature, and the ground floor rooms have french doors that open onto a private patio. Quite nice, really. No fridge/microwave, which is also common in Europe.
The hotel's restaurant was very disappointing, (both at breakfast and dinner).
It is best avoided alltogether.
If you walk 5 minutes, you come to a crosswalk. Cross the main road there ("Elspeterweg") and on the other side you will find "Restaurant Joris", a wonderful family restaurant which is so popular it is always busy. They have an impressive menu as well. You can enjoy an excellent meal here at a reasonable price.
We would like to stay at Villa Vennendal again, but we would take our meals across the road.
The spacious room with desk for the computer and WIFI, the bathroom with bath and shower, the twin bed bedroom were all very clean.
Breakfast buffet and evening meal were of a decent quality and variety, the staff was extremely friendly even if some were not really professionally trained. The wine list could satisfy wine amateurs at very reasonable prices.
The area has very interesting views to offer, lakes as wel as the Veluwe nature park.
We booked via an agent (Weekenddesk) and the price was amazingly low
The only negative remark is that the room was available only from 15.00 hrs which cuts the first day short.
"There are rooms that face the water feature, so if you can't sleep with the sound of a fountain, maybe as for a room not in that area."Read full review
"Ask for a room at the right part of the hotel = lobby-side (might be quieter, being further away from restaurant & party-rooms & bar !)"Read full review
