We only stayed there for one night, just before the next disturbing fase in the corona pandemic. Absolute fantastic location, in a superb nature surrounding. The room was complete, clean and with enough space. The restaurant served us a nice diner.\ All measurements were taken to prevent contamination with COVID, so also from that perspective recommended!
The hotel is situated in a nature park--The Sallandse heuvelrug. Nice quiet surroundings where the spring birds wake you in the morning. The public rooms have a nice, formerly chique feel and appear to appeal to mostly younger people. The rooms are OK, with very good bath amenities, good beds (although separate beds instead of a queen size would have been preferred) but the carpeting and upholstery were worn, dirty and needed immediate replacement. The 3-course meal included in the arrangement was mediocre. The wines we had, both at dinner and in the bar were mediocre if not bad. Service at dinnertime and in the bar was not particularly good or friendly, at breakfast though very friendly and attentive indeed.

Nice place on the veluwe in between nature very friendly staff good room no airco.clean.great breakfast.the lunch and dinner was of outstanding quality.there is also a nice bar in the cellar that is in use as a perfect winebar
We spent 2 relaxing nights in this little gem of a hotel, who used to be a hunting lodge, between Christmas and New Year's. the hotel was all decorated for Christmas, with a splendid nativity scene outside, and stylish white decorations inside. The lodge has been neatly morphed in a hotel, with rooms on two levels, a lounge with an impressive bookcase and restaurant on the ground floor, sauna downstairs. our room was nicely decorated, modern furnishings combined with a nice touch of traditional: wood wardrobe, a mirror with an original frame made of wooden pieces. We've enjoyed dinner in both evenings of our stay, and were entirely satisfied with the quality of the food and service. Among the facilities, there are both dry and wet sauna. The hotel is within a short walking distance of the Canadian War Cemetery, which should not be missed. Also close by is the Natuurdiorama Holterberg. Recommend this hotel a relaxing getaway.…
Stayed one night at the hotel with friends as we were in nearby Deventer for the Charles Dickens Christmas festival (odd having a Dickens festival in Holland, but really great fun and the old town looks like a Victorian England film set so it was fabulous). Anyway, we had dinner at the Hoog Holten restaurant, a five course set menu which was sublime. The sea bass was cooked to perfection and the wild boar main course smokey and pink, Absolutely delicious. Even better, the hotel was made up like a Christmas wonderland, there was snow on the ground outside and wood fires burning, probably the most Christmassy I have ever felt (and it was still a week before Christmas !). Staff were really friendly (we were the only English guests their English was superb, our Dutch is shocking), and made our party feel so welcome. I would love to go back to the hotel and if you get a chance to visit, do so. 5 stars. Even better, if you get a chance to stay over the festive season you won't be disappointed.…
Rooms (standard version) are out dated and need renovation. Less electricity sockets, no switch for main light. Beds are type of box spring but soft wear matrasses. Good for 1 night. Duvet too short, no sleeve to tighten. No air-conditioning, so I expect a sauna on an average summer day. Rest of the building, corridor, stairs and wooden parts also needs a good renovation to be a competitive hotel incl. lighting. 5 course surprise dinner is excellent with bread and amuse actually a 7 course diner took 3 hours. Excellent taste and presentation, chef is a real professional. Diner was accompanied wit a 5 glass wine arrangement. Excellent as well. Restaurant is cosy and staff is friendly. Breakfast however is relative poor looking to the diner the night before. Everything is there for a normal breakfast that is not the case, but in this hotel you expect something more than an average 13 in a dozen breakfast. For the diner I certainly come back. For the hotel in this state certainly not. Rating hotel 3 star, restaurant 5 star. Why is service busy with a vacuum cleaner in the central corridor second floor at 8 AM, while a lot of people are still sleeping??…
Stayed here for one night during a cycle trip. Hoog Holten is a small hotel with a larger restaurant, located in the woods above the town. From the number at breakfast the following morning, I'd guess that 8-10 rooms were occupied. Check-in process was efficient. No lift to first floor but not a problem for me. There are ground floor bedrooms. Room was spacious with a reasonable size bathroom with a shower. A little bit gloomy - only one small window but not an issue on a warm summer evening. Service in the restaurant was genuinely friendly and helpful. Menu was quite limited but if you are there for a few days, there is another option a few yards away.
