yesterday evening my husband and I had a lovely dinner at the restaurant. we would like to express our sincere compliments for the staff on this sunday evening. 2 young girls and 1 man performed their service duties at a high level. once again, many compliments.

The hotel accommodation is outdated and in need of some serious maintenance. The restaurant (i.e. the food - we had to eat in our room due to Covid) is very good. The service is very friendly. A visit to Zwolle is recommended.

The location on the river is nice, and plenty parking places. The room we had was very spacious, but on the side of the main road, thus it gets a bit noisy in the morning. Room is clean but in need of an upgrade, furniture is damaged, stains in the carpet and the mattress was saggy. No aircon in the room, I expect the rooms on the top floor can get very hot on a sunny day. Breakfast was good, a buffet with plenty to chose from. Given the price, we paid €114 for 2 including breakfast, not a bad place for a few nights.

Stayed 1 night with my husband and two month old son after visiting family in the area. Room was clean. Bathroom seemed a bit dated and grungy (visibly stained tile grout etc...) No in-room coffee/tea. No vending for a bottled soft drink late at night. Went to restaurant, which looks very nice and high end. They don't serve food after 9pm. Room was quite noisy with voices outside and in hallway, garbage bin being rolled outside was loud. Was ok value for the money though. Free parking. Easily adjustable heat in room and bathroom. Could use pool at sister hotel - write up says bathing suit attire is only necessary between 8am and 12pm...

The room i had (no 21) was spacious with a hugh bathroom with both shower and bubblebath. The bed was comfortable, perhaps a bit too hard, but still much better than other hotels. Clean rooms and public places. The food is excellent here and well priced, especially the 3 course for 40 Eur. I bet this a lovely place in the spring and summer!

This hotel was booked for us as part of a cycling tour around the Netherlands. During the tour we (My wife and I together with our son and daughter) stayed in 5 different hotels in different locations on the tour. The prices at time of booking all the hotels was around the 200 euro mark for 1 night & 2 rooms. De Zon came in as the second most expensive at 216 euro. All the hotels on the tour were fantastic; clean, comfortable, modern, personable attentive staff and good breakfast – with the exception of De Zon. Walking into the hotel was like a ‘bad trip’ back to the 70’s the corridor leading to the bedroom was like walking down the corridor of an old Townsend Torrison cross channel ferry. Once in the room our 70’s nostalgic trip continued, it was like something out of an Austin Powers movie and was probably quite ‘funky baby’ back in the day, but now it looked old, worn, patched-up, ripped net curtains and an asylum feeling bathroom. Because this felt completely different to the other hotels we had stayed in during the tour we decided to check the hotel website for prices for that night the price was 68 euro per room, considerably less than the 108 euro per room we were about to pay on departure. We decided to point out the above issues to reception who tried to say that the rooms were not 68 euro for that night until we showed them the laptop with their own webpage displaying the 68 euro price. But the receptionist did her managers proud and never gave an inch standing by her comment that the price at time of booking was the price we would have to pay. Which I sort of get, but in my experience when you book early the price should be what the price is for August (we stayed in August) or even a little cheaper -because you are booking early, not 80 euro more expensive. The hotel is in a fantastic location and the breakfast was ok, we would have had dinner there and I think it would have probably been quite good. I get the feeling all the effort goes into the restaurant (although it’s a bit dated as well) but when your accommodation is as bad as ours was; the last thing you want to do is eat there as well.

Stayed here for 4 nights for the MotoGP at Assen. Right by the river next to Windmills. Lovely The trip to the TT circuit at Assen was a 30 minute drive and a piece of cake. We had breakfast 3 times and it was a typical breakfast. Hot bacon, scrambled and boiled eggs and of course fruits meats cheeses and pastries. A good start to the day. Room was clean water hot and had no complaints about the hotel. It even has its own Irish themed bar. Ommen I enjoyed in the evening good choice of places to eat and several lively bars. Good gun I would certainly stay again.

We have had drinks on the beach terrace. We have to collect our drinks at the bar. Why? We have had to pay big prices and there was no discount. This is not a appearance of a high standard hotel and restaurant. Price of a small cocktail 8.50 € We were having dinner on the terrace with a family of six. Beautiful wether, nice view on the river. After 10 minutes we have ordered our drinks they were served after another 10 minutes. When we have ordered our meal, the entree was served after waiting 40 minutes, our main course had a waiting time of another 30 minutes. The food was good, modern, small piece, tasty but not for big eaters. We didn't order dessert, another waiting time was the main reason. Restaurant de Zon has to do something in service and in speed in the kitchen. Having a mise en place?

We were travelling to Ommen to spend two days visiting family who were holidaying in the area. We had already had a week in Maastricth in a wonderful B&B and I decided to "splash" out and booked a package for two days at De Zon. Ibooked this package directly with the hotel by phone after researching their web site, and received a confirmation e mail directly from the hotel. The package was a two day "Wellness Package". I opted for the option that included the "vechtdal suite". This is their best suite. They also have "junior suites". There are photographs of these rooms beside the various offers on the hotel website. We checked in without any problem but I was surprised that no offer was made to assist with our luggage. I was also surprised to discover the "wellness centre" was "800 meters" from the Hotel. A subsequent search of the web site did indeed mention this fact. We were only a short while in our room when it dawned on us that perhaps we were NOT in the room I had booked. I consulted the hotel web site and indeed we were not in the Vechtdl suite but the Junior suite. I returned to reception and, short version, despite written hotel confirmation and web site confirmation the receptionist would not in any way concede that we were in the wrong room. I asked for the manager who when he eventually arrived took exactly the same line as his receptionist and actually said " that I must have mistaken the room on a booking site such as Booking.com". I showed him the written confirmation from his hotel and the offer on his web site together with a photo of the room. He eventually, very reluctantly and without much grace and NO apology, offered to move us to the correct room. I asked him how the receptionist whom he said was" one of his best" had made this mistake and more importantly why she had refused to honour the booking even when presented with irrefutable evidence and he said he did not know but would find out and let me know. Two days later at check out the Manager had NOT been in contact since the first day. I asked at check out for the Manager to e mail me the explanation. From the time of check in I have heard nothing from the Manager nor any word of an apology for ruining what was meant to be a pampering, not very cheap, few days. The manager was very proud of the fact that the hotel " had recently received its 4th star ". It is not up to that standard of service by a mile. Incidentally on arrival we were refused entry to the public bar in the hotel because it " was reserved for an outside client " All in all a horfic experience made all the worse by the hotel refusing to acknowledge their mistake and the failure of the manager to display any understanding of how to treat guests and at least keep his promises and reply to my query. Zero for management. understanding and hospitality. Incidentally the wifi did not work in the room either on phone or i pad. It did if you stood outside the room door in the hallway. I pointed this out to the manager after check in. Never heard back. Even though there were robes and bath towels in the suite you had to pay for them if you availed of the wellness part of the package as well as walking a mile. The breakfast was good but the presentation of the " hot" food, bacon and scrambled egg" was unappetising No other type of egg was offered..We decided not to dine in the hotel in the evening.

Frm the short time I spent in Ommen it is a lovely provincial town of the Netherlands and DeZon Hotel sits nicely on the River. Views from the restaurant and even a glimpse of a windmill from my room window! The welcome is warm, bedrooms clean functional (would improve if tea & coffee tray in room), nice restaurant. Bar okay less of a hotel bar more a saloon bar.. Free wifi throughout the hotel and breakfast well presented, traditional Continental and fresh. Girl on Reception extremely helpful, later checkout despite being busy and providing me with train times and journey details without me asking! Great customer care....
