Irbid is a great city to explore the north regions of Jordan. I found the hotels that were available on the booking sites to be very expensive for Jordan and therefore most people take a tour or a day trip from Amman. We did check out a few hotels on our way from the bus station and all were overpriced and of mediocre quality. The people in Irbid are very hospitable and a local man directed us to the local bus which took us to the centre of Irbid which is the location of the Omayah Hotel. The cost for the bus was about .25 Dinar. The proprietor Mr. Amed welcomed us to his hotel, which is on the second floor of the building, but an elevator is available. He made us feel like family. The hotel is easy to find and everyone will direct you to the location. Initially we thought the rate quoted was expensive, given it was the off season, but without breakfast we paid 20 JD for a large double room with heat and a private bathroom. Mr. Amed welcomed us with a Arabic coffee and provided a large number of recommendations with respect to transportation. We were invited to make our own Arabic coffee and tea using the kitchen. The huge room had a TV,a few english channels, and a good shower. The North bus station to Um Qays is walking distance; the south bus station to Amman or to Aqaba is a reasonable rate taxi rate. Everyone will help you find your way. The Clock Tower Restaurant serves excellent food at very reasonable prices. We enjoyed walking around the central area in the evening. Everyone was very kind. If you want to experience Jordan away from the tourist area, this is the place to spend time to visit the North.

2nd floor Hotel, Baghdad Street in the centre of town. Great friendly staff in this budget, comfortable hotel with modern en suite facilities. Budget alternative to the more advertised hotels quoting higher prices. Good for visiting local areas Umm Quais and Yarmouk River.

with my fiancee we stayed there only one night, but we were happy to choose this place. The room was equipped with AC, fridge, TV, comfortable bed, and most of all clean, fresh smelling sheets. The owner was very kind, pleasant, helpful and cooking great turkish coffee. The breakfast was local, fresh, warm and generous. Located in city center, if passing by or staying in Irbid, I would definitely recommend it.

I stayed at Omayah for two nights and I just couldn't be happier that I've chosen this place. The owner was extremly nice and always prepared to make me a tea or coffee. He also gave me many advices how to travel around. Rooms are big and they come with TV, fridge and AC. Bathroom was good, towels you can get at reception. Hotel is a litte bit hard to find, but when you do, you'll be happy to be there.

We stayed at the Omayah in May for about a week altogether. It's a very simple hotel on a couple of floors above some other businesses. It's not luxurious, but our room was large and comfortable, and the proprietor, Ahmad, is kind, hospitable, friendly and a pleasure to spend time with. Irbid is a great base for touring the north, and the Omayah really felt like a home base.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel is noisier but being able to look out on the street is fun.
