When people read, hear or think about Jordan, they have this image of a desert, camels and tents. Well, you will be surprised, in Jordan there are a lot of water dams, ponds, water streams, waterfalls and more. This is one of the hidden gems in Jordan. It is almost 2 hours drive away from Amman. But a perfect spot to run away from the city and it's busy life. A place where your eye will only see green flourishing all over. Very clean cabins in the middle of a jungle. Zip line activities. Water dam 5 minutes walk from it. A place to sleep in, if you happen to be hiking on the Jordan trail. They provide food accommodation and even if you have a tent and would like to have sleep there, they rent you the space for a very cheap price. Very friendly staff as well. A place to visit if you happen to be living in Jordan or visiting.

This place is in the hills, quiet and birds all around. The little forest makes you feel like being in another continent. They rent out wooden bungalows with all comforts. Good mattresses and a lovely hot shower. Everything is clean and comfortable. The young woman at the reception is very helpful and kind, always ready to help out and answer questions. The breakfast is very good, with all kinds of dishes. Of course the hummus, but also all kinds of extra’s like olive oil, honey, different kinds of cheeses and sauces. They bake you an omelette and also serve warm side dishes like mashed beans. All served outside on the terrace. Lovely place to stay.

It is an eco place that has been developed in the North Shouna area. Clean bathrooms and good home food. They have a great area for playing, a large kitchen, an eco store to buy products made in the area, and an air conditioned room for meetings. Or if you like to take your team away for a day for group thinking, this is a good option for spending the morning or the afternoon for 4-6 hours.

A must place to visit in jordan this place is very good and very diffrent than usuall places in jordan. its a nice cabins placed inside a forest . it gives you the feeling of the movie the cabin in the woods but very safe and clean and well mainteined . the staff is super friendly and polite , i showed up in the middle of the night without pre booking and they managed to prepare everything in no time . its a nice place for barbcue and experince the outdoors but still have acess to internet , water , electricty and clean bathrooms. A plus for families. the park have a nice zipline , and a nice play area for the kids. please note this is NOT A HOTEL , its an ECO PARK . so there is no front desk . you must book and call befor you show up. there is fast internet but only near the barbcue area . You must bring you own (drinking water , food , and anything you need during your stay ) specially at off peak times. there is no room service. there is no fridges in the cabins but the staff will put any food in a shared fridge. there is hot and cold water in the cabins with good pressure but hot water only during the day becuase its heated by solar power. there is no TV in the cabins and i dont see the need for a one . the rooms are equpited with AC units . so it can be visited during the summer. But i feel it will be better during fall and spring due to better climate

I found out about this EcoPark through the NGO Eco Peace who own this area. I have an interest in environmental issues, so wanted to visit as this is an Eco Park which many Jordanian locals including schools etc visit. Unfortunately, for the most part, caring about the environment isn't high on the agenda for the average Jordanian, so places such as this are very important. Othman, the manager, actually arranged to pick myself and my friends up from Amman. This isn't standard but I think he does it sometimes. He was so amazingly cheerful and friendly, I would rate him 5 stars for customer service. It's around 2 hours drive from Amman. On approaching the area, the temperature increased as it's near to the Jordan River so 250m below sea level. The actual Eco Park is wonderful, filled with trees and many benches. Families go there simply for a day to picnic and BBQ and I can see why. There is a wetlands area which attracts many indigenous and migrating birds during the Spring time (although probably to an extent, all year around). We stayed in a deluxe lodge which was air conditioned (it would have be unbearable if not). I was pleased to learn that they recycle black and grey water and are looking at implementing rain water capture (dependent on funding). They also use solar which generates 60% of their electricity. The rooms themselves were clean, although I have to admit, the bedding wasn't perfectly white and v mildly suspect, but definitely nothing terrible by any means. The windows were huge and looked out onto the stunning landscape. We wanted to do some walks but on arrival were told that that is usually for much bigger groups. We were pretty disappointed but Othman did his best and arranged for a local to guide us. I'm pretty adventurous, but it was a bit too much for my friends as there was 'no' path and steep and v rocky at times. They kept telling us that it was an easy walk. I've trekked to Everest base camp, I know about trekking and I can tell you, the grade was not easy but very difficult!! Nevertheless, Othman apologise profusely and only wanted to make us happy. The place is vital for the environment as the park has done a lot for positively changing the landscape by planting once deforested land with local trees. They also work with local communities. It really is a place which people should go to see, even for a day to have a picnic in a beautiful space. Also, although we didn't use it, it has the longest Zip Line in Jordan and there were definitely people visiting for that reason. I didn't see the actual area, but they seemed to be very safety conscious.

Sharhabil bin Hassneh EcoPark is an evolving centre for environmental education and ecotourism in Jordan. It is run by an incredible organization, EcoPeace Middle East - which works on practical environmental projects in Jordan, Palestine and Israel, encouraging a vision of cooperation on shared environmental issues between all who share this ecologically and historically rich region. We stayed at Sharhabil in mid March - this is a beautiful time to visit because all kinds of spring flowers are out and the journey from the airport (about 3 hours I think) smelled of rural farms, oranges and lemons. I was with my mum and little boy and we stayed together in one of a small cabins. These are basic but comfortable. It gets a bit cold at night at that time of year and the toilets and showers are a little way up the hill so it's like camping. We arrived in the dark and were just blown away by the sunshine, beautiful smells and views when we woke up and wandered around. The traditional Arabic breakfast is set out at the front of the centre and you can pick what you want and eat on picnic tables under the trees. There are often local families and students visiting and everyone was so friendly. Above all, the park's staff really went out of their way to welcome us and help out. I had to work in Irbid during my stay and the park's manager took my mum and son on a tour, where they visited the lake and experienced local hospitality in a Bedouin tent. They are still talking about that lovely day. From Sharhabil, one can easily visit Umm Qais - about 30 minutes drive away. Here there is an old Roman site with breathtaking views across to Lake Tiberias and the Golan Heights. Further down, there are the baths at Himma. This is not the Jordan that most people think of (Petra, Dead Sea, Wadi Rum). It is lush and green, but just as packed with history. Go visit.

A wonderful discovery! Nestled in the Jordan River Valley, not far from the Jordan River crossing between Beit Shean, Israel and Irbid, Jordan, you'll find this oasis of greenery and eco-minded living. Looking at old photos of the region, it was a dry and neglected swath of earth. Today, thanks to Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME), the land has been cleaned up, rehabilitated, and planted with suitable vegetation. It now draws tourists and ecologically-motivated volunteers. The accommodations are in small wood huts - reminds me of a rugged US summer camp - but the rooms were spotless and the beds very comfortable. Washrooms are in a separate building. Throughout the site you'll find signs explaining water issues and other environmental challenges. There are walking/biking trails nearby including to the dam situated above the site. In the park is a hut with bikes you can rent. For the more athletic, coordinate your trip with the annual triathlon. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Kingdom of Jordan is mostly desert country (almost 90% of country is desert) so to see and enjoy in green landscape is rare and almost dazzling experience while traveling there. If you search for something like that...then Sharhabil Bin Hassneh EcoPark is for you. Please note that the accommodation is really basic. You get the wooden cabin with AC and bed inside. Toilets are in another (bigger) cabin some 50 meters from the cabin in which you will be accommodated. Inside those bigger cabins there are showers and toilets. During the time while we were staying there they had some issues with running water (but until morning it was solved). If you will be staying here be sure to take dinner and breakfast because they are home made and definitely worth of ordering (especially taking in consideration that for a really low price you do get a substantial and tasty meal). Payment is only in cash, credit cards are not accepted so take it in consideration when booking there. This place is only 2 - 3 km from Sheikh Hussein/Jordan River border crossing so they are a good option if you plan to go to a border early in the morning.
