We booked four nights and decided to stay longer because the location, accommodations and service were excellent. During our stay every wish was met, we felt like their world revolved around us. They even offered to smoke a rainbow trout we caught fly-fishing that morning - serving it with artisan cheese and wine next to a wood-burning fireplace that evening....

Spent two nights here. The property itself is tucked away in an incredibly peaceful setting with the living and bedrooms opening up to a beautiful garden. It is well situated on the Tongariro River and serves as an excellent base with which to explore Lake Taupo and Tongariro National Park. We were greeted by the owners Rebecca and Jason and...

If you are anywhere near Turangi, you MUST stay a night or two at River Birches. Never mind the beauty of the property, Anthea is the "hostess with the mostess." She is so welcoming and relaxed, that it's almost impossible not to totally unwind yourself. She is an excellent cook, and is willing to share her secrets and recipes.

We stayed two nights and found the setting to be wonderful and the hospitality to be warm and accommodating. Based on an old private home, the suites are arranged around a lovely garden. Location was very convenient for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

This B&B is so intimate & charming, the pictures don't do it justice. The garden is so beautiful & zen, you will not want to leave. The innkeeper, Anthea, is an incredibly thoughtful & helpful hostess. She cooked us a delicious breakfast every morning and for our big hike she made us the most incredible sandwiches. This B&B is a...

River birches and Anthea are gems, hidden at the end of a really small street in Turangi. Once you are close, you discover an architect house reminiscent of a châlet in the Alps, but with a very english garden. Anthea is a wonderful host and arranged our first dinner at the river restaurant, our trip to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing...

We stayed there in order to see both the National Park and lake Taupo. Anthea and Bill did a splendid job looking after us and her cooking was top drawer, their advice about our planned walk was entirely appropriate. The gardens were beautiful and the rooms were well equipped.

I have stayed at many B&Bs in my time, but this one was by far the best - the most expensive too but well worth it. The quality of the furnishings with a southeast Asia theme, bedding, 'mini' bar and extra supplies was top shelf - even had a plunge coffee maker with chocolates to nibble on. Anthea, the manager,...

This cottage was our favourite place to stay on our whole New Zealand trip. Anthea was full of ideas and knowledge about things to do and see around the area, we were spoilt for choice. The garden was amazing, so peaceful and relaxing. My boyfriend went fly fishing with a guide that was organised through Anthea. That was his favourite...

We loved the Tranquil setting and open plan design of this beautiful home and gardens. Anthea is a very helpful and knowledgeable host, as well as a great cook. All the rooms are spacious with a tasteful and modern design. A great base for the Tongariro crossing.
