The location of the lodge and the rooms (cottages) are beautiful, also the food was excellent. However the service was not as it should be. It started when we arrived at lunchtime, the person at reception told us that after the lunch we would get a tour of the lodge, so after the lodge we went back and we just...

We stayed at Wharekauhau for our honeymoon last October. It was so special -- the trip of a lifetime, and Wharekauhau was the crown jewel. I won't belabor the most obvious amazing features of this place, since anyone looking at the pictures can see. An absolutely gorgeous pastoral setting - acres and acres to just wander the bluffs and fields....

I was treated to a night at Wharekauhau to celebrate my birthday on New Years's Eve. What a treat - the staff are absolutely amazing - respectful, attentive, polite and also down to earth - which just made everything great. Arrived early afternoon and had lunch which was lovely - in the dining conservatory. Then shown to our cottage -...

My husband and I recently stayed at Wharekauhau for either the 3rd or 4th time. We can't quite work out if we'd stayed on 2 or 3 previous occasions. Other lodges we have stayed at and therefore do inevitably draw comparisons with are Kauri Cliffs, Cape Kidnappers, Matakauri, Huka Lodge and Blanket Bay. One of the things I love about...

The grounds breathtaking, the facilities are great, the food fantastic, the cottages implacable, however, the real highlight, is the human touch that We won't forget- kudos to Richard and his team. We felt special and fortunate to have included Wharekauhau as part of our our voyage. NZ is an addictive candy of a country and well worth the long travel,...

Good lord, where does one start with this place? From the outstanding service, location and accommodation to the beautiful swimming pool and grounds. This place is worth the serious cash outlay. If you have ever wondered how the super wealthy holiday, just experience this place for one night. That said, a couple of minor errors. The wine waiter missed our...

We drove to Wharekauhau country estate from Plimmerton over the weekend lately to have a celebratory 5 course degustation lunch for our 35th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. The journey on the western side of the lake was narrow in some parts and of course it was rather twisty going across the Rimutakas. It took us about 1 1/2...

We had friends fly in from melbourne to join us for my birthday weekend here. The staff anticipated all of our needs before we did and did so with enthusiasm and excitement. They loved surprising and delighting us and seemed to get as much enjoyment out of our delight as we did. Food and wine were excellent. They were amazing...
