We stopped here recently (Feb 2014) for an overnight stop on our way to the West Coast. The room was just OK, it was clean and bed was comfy but did have a bit of a musty? odour. We kept the windows open to clear the air but was advised not to keep them open at night as the bugs...

We were on the road to Mt Cook and it was getting late as we arrived at Arthurs Pass. WE checked a couple of motels and the hostel and everything was booked. The manager at one of the hotels called a couple of places down the road for us and they were booked. He then called the Chalet and fortunately...

I stopped here for an evening meal and I was very dissapointed, I was asked how my meal was and I said the Lamb is a bit tough. The staff member then said, oh yes the lamb tends to be a bit tough!!?? She then said oh actually I had someone last night who really enjoyed the lamb. I was...

Friendly staff, warm welcoming log fire and a really good meal in the on site restaurant. Although access to our room was via an external staircase - the room was large with electric blankets and tea and coffee facility. Comfy bed ! Highly recommended for overnight or longer stay if hiking in the area.

We loved our stay at Arthur's Chalet. The dinners we had there were among the best we had in a three-week trip to NZ and not the usual fare found elsewhere. We both had the Moroccan fish and venison stew two nights in a row they were so good! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave some good...

The welcome sign at the front door: "This is not a public toilet" was an indication of the things to come. As per other reviews, clearly this place has seen better days. The receptionist didn't make us feel welcome. The room itself was very basic, with paint peeling off the window frame and with holes in the bathroom flooring. The...

This rustic chalet accomodation has been let deteriorate which is a shame. It needs a good clean, dirty windows obscure the great view, dirty windows sills mildewed. Walls have cracks, torn paper, broken windows taped up with cellotape, tables and bars sticky with muck, curtains limp with dirt. The shower was so weak it took ages to get wet. The...

We arrived here during a howling gale in January and were very pleased to find a nice welcome for 3 wet windswept bikers and a clean, comfortable and reasonably priced room available. The owner even provided a tarp to cover the bike seats in a space at the back of the chalet so that the Kea didn't peck at them!...

This was our first stop on a tour of the South Island. The place is more like a pub. Our room was basic but clean. We were supposed to be sharing bathroom facilities but we were the only ones to use it. We wandered around the other places to eat, but decided to eat at Arthurs Chalet and were so...

“The rooms at the back where we were (room 11) are probably the quietest as they are away from the road. However, we can't comment on possible noise from the train (which runs past the back of the building, though separated from it by the river, into a nearby tunnel) as none were running during our stay.”

“When we decided to add a night, we had a choice of a bigger, nicer room for two nights and then move to the more basic room or pick the more basic room for all three nights. We chose the latter option, and it was fine. It was quiet and at the end of a hall.”
