We travelled from the West Coast and were late. We rang the Chalet from one hour away and said we needed a bed - arriving around 10pm. The host said he would stay up for us. We arrived at 10pm to a snowy Arthurs Pass village. The host had kept the cosy bar with open fire and pool table open...

We spent one night at Arthurs Chalet having arrived at about 5pm with no booking. Staff were very friendly and so was their cat. As other reviewers have mentioned it is in need of a little maintenance in places but overall was good. We had the Pea, Pie, Pud for dinner (homemade Arthurs Chalet pie on a bed of mashed...

On a day out in the mountains we opted to try Arthurs Chalet for lunch as we hadn't been there for a while. It was only just on lunch time when we went inside. The place was very cold, but the welcome was warm and they were very helpful with my lunch restrictions (Coeliac), though it was determined that all...

Once again trip advisor proved to be spot on. In the middle of the southern Alps, in winter, poor accommodation would have been a disaster. Arthurs Chalet was great. Right from the start when we were picked up from the station to being dropped off there at the end of the stay it was quality. Although the actual Chalet is...

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the nearby hiking is fantastic. The food was delicious - try the seafood chowder! The pub and restaurant have a relaxed atmosphere and are a great place to meet the locals. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. When my husband needed medical care for his sciatic pain, they quickly found a rural...

As a solo traveller, I will admit to feeling very isolated when I stayed here back in March. It was difficult to tell how many other guests were staying -I felt like the only one and it made me a bit nervous. Whilst the room was a bit basic everything was exceptionally clean. I've knocked a star off because: -...

Rooms were very cosy and well appointed, werent expecting a tv in our room at all AND THERE WAS A BATH(warm not too bad considering the amount available) We felt the price was very reasonable due...

This time coming through Arthurs Pass we were lucky enough to spend a night and we were the only people that were happy about the miserable weather - raining, because it also meant that there was snow falling on all the mountain tops. This was an added bonus as far as we were concerned. Amongst the fog and rain was...

We stayed here for one night at the begining of April 2013. I had pre booked this hotel prior to arrival and will admit that I was a little worried about our stay as it looked quite dated in the photos. Well let me tell you, dissapointed I was not! While the rooms are a little bit dated, they are...

i agree with all the other reviewers that this place is rather dated and shabby, but it is in a remote location so i wasnt expecting 5 star accommodation. we arrived before 2pm and the reception door was locked and no one was around so i called the number on the reception door and got an answering machine! we had...

“The rooms at the back where we were (room 11) are probably the quietest as they are away from the road. However, we can't comment on possible noise from the train (which runs past the back of the building, though separated from it by the river, into a nearby tunnel) as none were running during our stay.”

“When we decided to add a night, we had a choice of a bigger, nicer room for two nights and then move to the more basic room or pick the more basic room for all three nights. We chose the latter option, and it was fine. It was quiet and at the end of a hall.”
