This was my second YHA experience and I much preferred it to my first stay in Lake Tekapo. This hostel had a mountain lodge feel with wood beams all in the interior and of course there is the gorgeous view of the mountains right outside....More
This hostel was great! Lots of spaces to chill or eat. Lots of couches and tables. The sauna was great and wifi reached the rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms had lockers! The kitchen was also well organized.
Staff are welcoming, warm and always ready to help. Beautiful building, cozy, clean, bright, convenient to trails. I stayed in a twin bunk with someone I met on the bus. It would have been tight with two large suitcases/backpacks but the other person was travelling...More
Stayed in a 6 bed dorm in February. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a really nice lounge and good kitchen space. Good WiFi. The yha is located in a fantastic area. Would definitely recommended!
Easy location to find, check in and stay at. I recommend it, but probably only if you don't plan to spend a lot of time here.... ie use it as a place to sleep. It is nice, with great staff that are friendly and helpful....More

Mt Cook is rather a small village, with few restaurants and accommodation options. So, when you get off the bus, it will be easy to ask around and just walk to the establishment. In any case, i strongly recommend you purchase a local (New Zealand) Sim card when you arrive at the airport. It is worth it as there is a special rate for international calls and SMS, not to mention, you can also call local lines easily and use the 3g or LTE network. You can even tether (be a wifi hotspot) if you have a spare mobile phone that has a hot spot feature.
