We were a little worried that we wouldn't be warm enough on the champagne and seafood terrace, but it is really well thought out, with plenty of heaters and blankets on the seats if anyone feels cold, but no-one needed them. Really excellent food - it is all fish as it says on the tin - probably the best whitebait I have eaten and the smoked salmon was of a very high standard. Everyone enjoyed the food, including the dessert, which weren't at all fishy. The views of the Derbyshire hills were amazing. Highly recommended.

We came here for a 2 night stay. Fantastic staff, especially the youngsters. Chatty, well mannered and helpful. A pleasure to meet. We had a three course meal on the first night, sampling amazing food. A number of amuse bouchées were served. My favourite was the cauliflower velouté with fish in the bottom of the dish. It was exquisite. One of my favourite dishes ever. I chose cured duck ham. This was beautifully presented with seasonal and local products including beetroot. We had beef for the main course which tasted delicious. I chose blackberry soufflé which was divine. Soufflés can be tricky to cook. This was served with a cheesecake custard which reminded me of jelly whip served for school dinners. I am not sure what the ingredients were. The orange part of the dish included a delightful ice. My husband enjoyed a selection of fine cheeses. The bedroom was decorated nicely. Unfortunately, the walls are quite thin. We had a lovely view over the fields towards Chatsworth House which is a convenient stroll across the field. I recommend you to start saving up for a fantastic break at this hotel. 😊

This is my third visit to the hotel and it never disappoints. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay over on this visit as the hotel was fully booked, so we popped in for a drink. The staff are all friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food and wine are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Fantastic weekend with friends at the Cavendish Hotel. Fabulous location and some lovely walks from the hotel. We also took a trip to Bakewell which is well worth a visit. Our room was in the coach house, really lovely and everything of a high standard. Dinner in the Gallery restaurant was amazing. Food and service all of an excellent standard, as was breakfast, all freshly cooked to order. Thank you and look forward to returning in the future

I adored my stay at the Cavendish Hotel so much that I extended my stay here! Fantastically furnished [felt like I'd stumbled onto the set of a murder mystery!]. The staff are such a credit - so helpful. The Cavendish is flanked by acres of greenery and you can get to Chatsworth House within 20 minutes - glorious location and glorious hotel.

Lovely setting and atmosphere- and the service was just wonderful by very attentive and helpful servers. The food (what we had) was excellent. What let the whole evening down was the quantity of food supplied as ‘ the main course’. I ordered a roast Derbyshire lamb for mine- and it was basically four cubed sized pieces of roast lamb wrapped in garnish- and placed around the four edges of the plate. The empty space in the centre was just a swirl of gravy. When we expressed concern as to the amount of food on the plate- the response was one of ‘Oh- do you want more vegetables?’ We all nodded and eventually a small round side of vegetables eas subsequently brought t an additional cost of 3.85 . This course was labelled on the menu as containing ‘700 calories’. Certainly a misnomer and I defy anyone to consider this quantity of food a proper meal. It was more of a ‘taster’ size to us. The amount on the plates was almost laughable- does anyone visiting this establishment not complain? Maybe its a case of ‘the king’s new clothes’ - and we are all supposed to pretend its an exquisite dining experience ‘just because its Chatsworth’ There were four of u- and the total cost of the meal (excluding the 50 pound bottle of wine) was over 300 pounds. I couldn’t recommend the place to anyone- and would never go there again.

Hotel in a beautiful location and views. Lovely relaxing lounge and bar area. Gallery restaurant was also of a high standard with very good food. Appetiser choice a little limited. Bar staff, lounge staff and restaurant team were excellent. Reception were not very welcoming and poor on check out. We experienced a repeating faulty fire alarm at around 6:15am … around 6 or 7 interruptions after one long continuous alarm. This disruption was not acknowledged by staff on check out. Not even a simple apology. Hotel rooms, particularly bathrooms could be upgraded.

Fabulous stay in the Cavendish Hotel for the Chatsworth Experience. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with lots of places to sit and relax. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated with 2 of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. The bathroom had all the mod cons and was stocked with Noble Isle luxury toiletries. There are tea & coffee making facilities in the room and a lovely touch of some Chatsworth House Chocolate Cookies too - which we devoured! I cannot compliment the staff enough - they are top class - so helpful and pleasant - they really made our stay very special. Both restaurants are superb with great selection of delicious food & wine. As the hotel is on the estate, we could walk over to Chatsworth House (approximately 25 minutes) which was fantastic.

We took our friends for a special treat to the newly formed Champagne and Seafood external restaurant this year. Wonderful setting under a canopy looking out towards Chatsworth estate. Unfortunately, the experience did not match the setting. We sat at a table barely big enough for the four of us about to have champagne and fish platters. We ordered the champagne with white wine to follow with the fish course, before the food arrived our table was almost full of glasses, cutlery and what we thought were side plates. When the fish platters arrived the actual chef realised that the table was not large enough to accommodate the fish platters we had ordered as well as side dishes. He immediately pulled over another table. Even with this table it was extremely tight and what we thought were side plates turned out to be what we should eat our meals from. My wife asked for a dinner plate which she received but the table could not accommodate any more. I had to ask the waiter for s bowl of sorts to put our waste shells and bones into, adding to by now our table clutter. We eventually became the last diners in the restaurant, the chef was clearing down his external kitchen/bbq with the waiter also clearing the other tables, not really a problem but he constantly kept looking at his watch as if he had to be either somewhere else or just wanted to get away.. We managed to catch his attention and ordered coffees of which arrived a while later but disappointedly we were never asked if we would like to look at the dessert menu so we did not bother at all, seemed to just want to get away. It was a shame really as the whole concept of the Champagne and seafood meal in a wonderful setting sounded and looked great but was let down by a lack of detail, service and ultimately value for money. The experience had cost me well over £400 but more disappointed for our friends whom we had taken by way of saying thank you for their recent help extended to ourselves. This was/is a cracking idea but poorly executed. Just three things are required to retain customers and keep them returning as follows:- a) Good clean surroundings b) Good food c) Good service It really is as simple as that!

After reading some reviews of the hotel, I booked with a little bit of trepidation. I was nervous that the property would feel dated and not worth the cost. However, we really enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be well-maintained. The one suggestion I would give is that the hotel improve their mattresses. They are hard as a rock and uncomfortable. Fundamentally a hotel is a place to sleep and get rest and improving their mattresses would make a world of difference. (We were in room 18). The view is fantastic and the grounds are fun to explore. We stayed on county fair weekend and really enjoyed it. The other way they could distinguish themselves is by improving their breakfast. It was good but it was short-staffed and the food could've been higher quality. A stand out breakfast goes a long way in a hotel like this. We very much enjoyed dinner in the garden room. While there isn't air conditioning, we left the windows open and were comfortable with a fan to circulate the air.
