Detailed Reviews
The hotel estate is vast, with three pool areas - all of them beautifully styled, well attended by staff, and wonderfully calm and tranquil. All around you are the Andalusian hills rolling down to the sea.
We stayed for two nights in one of the studio suites. The room was well kitted out with a sunken bath, a sumptuously large bed and light pouring in via the huge windows.
The restaurants served good food, and the staff were attentive. We had an amazing three course meal with unlimited drinks (including alcohol) on the weekend, all for €65 per person.
I read mixed reviews about this place before staying owing to it being a new hotel and there being a few teething issues, but I can happily confirm this is a luxurious hotel, designed to the highest standard, and run by a dedicated friendly team. We can't wait to come back!

We spent a long weekend at newly opened SO by Sofitel in Sotogrande. The hotel is wonderfully located in the residential area of Sotogrande surrouinded by nature and stunning villas. From the main pool we had a great view over the ocean. The hotel has various restaurants all very stylish with excellent food & beverage offerings. The SPA and GYM are amazing. Spacious, the GYM is the best hotel GYM I have ever seen with indoor & outdoor areas and state of the art equipment. Two outdoor pools are available and we spent the days next to the HISO restaurant where the team took very well care of us.The hotel is also attached to the Alminara Golf Course which has a beautiful layout and is in great shape. We asked if there is a beach location and the team told us that they have a collaboration with a beach club in Sotogrande and it takes 10 minutes via hotel shuttle to go there. Our room was big in size, modern design and we enjoyed the big terrace overlooking the garden. Definietly a fantastic addition to the Cosat del Sol hotel scene and we will be back soon.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Lovely staff, incredible setting, great food, good golf. Only letdown was service - it was pretty slow and on almost every meal at least one item was forgotten. This wasn’t a huge issue as staff were lovely and setting was great but would expect better from this calibre of hot. The only very disappointing point was room service one evening for dinner where the following issues occurred; menu confusingly labelled chips v crisps and they arrived with a couple of crisps for a huge cost given this despite having an option to add “additional portion of fries”. Club sandwich arrived with Mayo and additional egg despite not being stated on the menu and requested to be removed. Wrong crisps flavour arrived and one drink did not arrive. When flagged to staff the issues and we were charged for replacement of chips to fries and charged another 5 euro delivery fee to rectify this which was very disappointing . The replacement sandwich was incredibly low quality for 25 euros when it arrived correct, uncooked bread with minuscule amount of turkey/chicken). Then when we flagged to hotel no response to our email on this yet . Would recommend they update room service menu to be clearer and look at this process as ruined one of our evenings. The food in rest of resort was amazing so this was surprising and an outlier in a brilliant stay.

I travelled a long way to stay with a friend who was staying here. She warned me before I got there that it didn't live up to a five star and that the food wasn't good. I stayed one day and one night, hoping to enjoy the spa and restaurants but left to join my father in a lovely hotel in Marbella instead. The spa wasn't open and only 2 out of 6 restaurants were open. The good news is that the staff were friendly, the weather was good and there was quite a nice view from the top of the hill. The bad news is that we had a long wait for service in the pool restaurant then all the food was plain and tasteless. Hot drinks were cold. The hotel bedrooms and interior furniture was basic and low quality. Thankfully my friend's bill was paid by someone else, not her.

Cons:
- restaurants extremely expensive for the quality of the dishes (about 100 Euros for a child and an adult per meal, only a dish and drinks).
- 3 swimming pools and only 1 accessible for children; Too noisy. I was denied access to a swimming pool because my son was only 9 years old. I was never aware of this restriction. Same for the spa pool with schedule restrictions for children while it is a family Inn, look for error.
- The room: rather pretty but far from 5 star standards. Cardboard cups for coffee or tea (no glass service), very few centers available and more than very small sizes.
- No laundry bags available after sending first to laundry service.
I found a dead cockroach in my bathroom. Postponed to the hotel and the answer is that it happens.......not in a 5 star!
Ants in the room.
Amenities not renewed.
- Very noisy cleaning service. 10 door slamming at 8:00 in the morning.
If you do not ask to make your room in the morning, the room is made only at the end of the day. I had to wait for access to my room when I got home from golf at 5:00.
– The biggest negative, I am a member of All Accor Diamond status, and no upgrade was offered to me or even anything else. I still asked if an upgrade was possible. He was to come back to me the next day and no one came to me during the stay about it. I even had the Impression that they were avoiding talking to me. Guest service = zero!!
Also it happened to other customers (read in other reviews).
Pros because there are still some 🙂:
- Beautiful location and very nice.
Comfortable bedding.
- Golf accessible and located within the hotel.
- Very nice golf course and super nice staff.
- All the staff at the hotel are great and super friendly. Just the management leaves something to be desired in the management of their guest.
To summarize beautiful hotel, not to 5 star standards, rather a hotel for adult and non-family with room Awards prohibitive in terms of services.

Beautiful location in the hills of Sotogrande. The resort is spotlessly clean and the rooms were spacious. We had the 2 bed suite for a family of 4 and it was really lovely! There is a family pool and separate adult spaces. Kids can use the spa pools in the morning which was also very thoughtful. A decent gym with classes and PT available.
Breakfast is table service which suits some - we prefer buffet with the kids but it was still very good. Only downside is having to book restaurants on site for other meals as no buffet and at times we had to leave the resort as everything was booked up. Taxis were around 25 euros each way and not that easy to get on the return journey. Car rental is an option which other members of our party had done.
Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We’ve stayed at SO resort hotel as a family for couple of times and tried different rooms from king suite, loft suite and family suite. All three rooms offered different views and level of privacy.
While we enjoyed our stay at king or loft suite, the family suite is definitely offer more space as there are designated living and dining room with two spacious en suite bedrooms.
Their indoor pool and spa is child friendly (children under 15 must be accompanied by adult), but do remember to respect the rules and always accompany your child.
Full facilities of indoor pool/spa with individual lockers, shower rooms, changing room cubicles, also hair dryer and spacious vanity.
Their gym is fully equipped with different equipment, and there are floating tank (infinity floating tank - do ask the gym attendants for help), chiropractor etc.
During winter their outdoor pool is closed for public use. But there are plenty of space for couples or family alike travelers to use the facilities once it’s open.
Breakfast buffet offered good options from Andalusian, American, English or healthy breakfast.
The only thing that’s missing for us is the variety of room dining/room service, as there’s not much to choose after you stayed for more than 5 nights. Perhaps they can add more menus especially for the little ones.
There are restaurants in the vicinity which offered from tapas style, Sunday BBQ to fine dining.
We loved to sit by the courtyard while enjoying the afternoon sun and having a bit of tapas.
There is kids club in the vicinity with various activities (do check their opening hours).
The SO resort hotel is near to a perfection, however, coming from Asia where there are plenty of luxury resorts we’ve visited over the past 15 years or so, the thing that I appreciate from these resorts is that; there’s a beach bag and sun hat in the room when the resort is located in a warm climate (whether to borrow or as a gift). It’s that extra service that made a difference.
The SO resort hotel is definitely a wonderful place for couples, friends or family travelers and especially golfers as the Almenara golf course just in the vicinity.
The SO resort hotel is one of our favorite hotels in Andalusia.
Thank you for the personal touch during our recent stay.

This hotel was absolutely perfect on all counts.
SO/Sotogrande’s staff were very professional, attentive and friendly in all the departments we encountered.
The hotel is situated in a location which gives you amazing picturesque vistas of the surrounding area. From our table at breakfast to our table at the poolside restaurant. On that note, the poolside restaurant was superb. Reasonably priced for high quality food and service by Ricardo and his team.
The quality of the 3 pools and gym/spa were first class.
Our room was great. Extremely large and comfortable bed with a bathroom that was bigger than some rooms we’ve stayed in at other hotels.
I couldn’t praise this hotel enough. We are 100% returning next year.

SO Sotogrande is a new hotel in the SO chain, located about an hour's drive from Málaga airport, whether for a short stay of 2 or 3 nights or a stay of several days or even a week. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Despite the 152 rooms and suites, you don't feel like you're staying in a big hotel. Beautifully designed, surrounded by several golf courses, 3 swimming pools, suitable for both families with children and couples (adults only). The ideal base for golfers, with its own clubhouse and caddies, but also for those looking for peace and tranquillity!
The interior of the hotel is truly beautiful and was completely designed by a fashion designer, which is visible in every detail. We stayed in a junior suite, in a small modern pavilion with just 2 bedrooms! In one word stunning. An excellent king-size bed, plenty of wardrobes to store clothes and a bathroom with bathtub and shower. Amazing!
The food was excellent, with several restaurants and a wide choice of dishes. A la carte breakfast service on the beautiful terrace, in the bright sunshine, overlooking the golf course.
In addition to the facilities already mentioned, the hotel has a huge spa of no less than 2800 m², with an indoor thermal pool, panoramic sauna, hammam and gym overlooking the golf course.
We had a really lovely stay and everything was very well taken care of, would love to come back!
Remark: perhaps a small detail, but personally a world of difference: When 2 men or 2 women share a room, replace the bathrobes in the bathroom with 2x his or 2x hers instead of 1x his and 1x hers!

The hotel is beautiful and our ‘Lofty’ room was stunning.
We did have a few issues that could easily be ironed out. We found there was not enough towels at the pool. We arrived at lunchtime to no towels available and then back of a boat trip in the afternoon a different day to no towel available and had to walk back to our rooms wet.
They are very much trying to be a family hotel but there is only one pool available to families and the adult only multiple pools were never very full. Perhaps these could also be available to families during August?
There was a very Strange gate system where you have to use a wrist band allocated on arrival to access pool areas but only one gate seems to work and others are permanently locked on purpose. Would be good to know this before we walk up steps and towards gates to have to go all the way back around. The system does not seem to work well and is confusing. Again a minor issue that could be worked out easily. We went back to reception multiple times to get our wrist bands fixed but I think the gates just weren’t in use.
It is very much trying to be a family hotel and it does have a kids club and entertainers but it has a more adult feel and the family element is only felt at the one pool allowed into. The restaurants are lovely with great views but only Society has a kids menu and it was closed in the evening.
The golf also lacked communication and although clubs were pre booked they weren’t available on arrival so we managed to hire a set externally and then had to hire another left hand set (which neither of us would use) as they had no other right hand sets available just to carry around to abide by the rules even though it wasn’t our mistake.
Now for some positives after losing a set of sunglasses in a taxi the hotel called the company and managed to get them returned and we were very grateful for this!
My trip to the spa for a massage was lovely. I had a wonderful lady called Minerva who I recommend whole heartedly. She was kind, calm, warm and attentive. I received a wonderful massage and very much enjoyed my time in the spa.
The children are actually allowed in the spa areas in the morning and so can use the plunge pools which is a novelty as it is rare for a hotel to let children into these zones.
I am trying to be honest with my review as the hotel is 5* and we paid a hefty sum per night for b&b and so I feel with this in mind it could and should and I’m sure will do better in the future.
We did have a few issues that could easily be ironed out. We found there was not enough towels at the pool. We arrived at lunchtime to no towels available and then back of a boat trip in the afternoon a different day to no towel available and had to walk back to our rooms wet.

Yes, plenty! A short taxi down to Sotogrande Port or Torregudiaro. Also, look on goole maps as the La Finca Thai Fusion is querky but fabulous or Cancha II is stunning!
