i visited The George just to use the leisure facilties with my family as i heard the pool was nice and warm. On first impressions the changing rooms looked like they could have done with a good clean there was a lot of hair around the shower area. The pool was nice and warm but there seemed to be some...

Hello Sazzle3, We are sorry to read that you were disappointed when you visited to the George Hotel leisure club, I need to point out that our facilities are completely unmanned during the day. Last thing at night or first thing in the morning the leisure club is cleaned top to bottom, I know I do it myself the odd...

Well...What can I say...Amazing! I rang in November thinking it would be fully booked due to the reasonable price but no, Dora arranged my booking and sent a confirmation email, taking a small deposit. I thought it was a 3 course meal but when I got sent the menu by email realized it was a 5 course with sorbet and...

Just passing through for one night. Room good , food good and efficient service. Staff exceptional and polite. It will be a great place for a summer visit being on the banks of the river with what looked like a good garden area.

This has to be the best Shearings hotel we have ever visited. Beautifully situated on the riverbank and adjacent to Hadrian wall, the gardens and bridge together make a magnificent setting. The recently refurbished rooms were spacious and clean, the food was excellent, especially the buffet breakfast and the bar facilities good, if a little pricey(made up for by the...

We stayed here for 4 nights on a Shearings coach holiday. Even in winter it is in a lovely setting alongside the river so it must be stunning on a lovely summer's evening relaxing in the gardens. A small hotel but with everything you need. A good restaurant, friendly and efficient staff, and lots of sitting areas. The Leisure Club...

The hotel is situated alongside the river with pleasant gardens. In December the trees were festooned with white lights and inside there were some tasteful decorations. The rooms were basic and the food satisfactory. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.

Hi Joan396, Thanks for posting your review :-) Christmas decorations are not my favorite subject if I am honest, I personally found myself hanging off an 18ft tree in the garden trying to put lights up and possibly find my Christmas spirit. It didn't work and nor did the lights, after an hour or so of scaling the tree where...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
