The hotel is in a magnificent location with great views from most windows. However, as my wife noted, it had the feel of an airport hotel -- very impersonal, basic menus, tired rooms. There was algae on the ceiling of the swimming pool. Lovely to have a pool and sauna, but a little bit of extra effort would have made...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I can assure you that the property is not being left to run down, over the last few years we have invested money into the public areas and a programme is underway to refurbish all of the bedrooms in the hotel. I have made notes of your comments. Once again...

Lovely hotel on the banks of the river North Tyne. We arrived mid afternoon were quickly & efficiently booked in arranged our evening meal dining time. We could only book a standard room as the hotel was fully booked but this was very adequate with a side view of the river. The room was very quiet every night, bed quite...

We stayed weekend befre Easter. Room was OK, standard hotel bedroom but it had a lovely view of the river and the bridge. The bed was quite hard. We arrived at 7.45pm on a Friday and the dining room stops serving food at 8pm which seemed quite early. The food was very nondescript standard fare , the service was friendly...

Thank you for your review. Porridge and croissants are available to order from the waiter. I shall pass your comments on regarding the food to the chef. The ladies lights are on a sensor so normally as you enter the changing facilities the lights would come on. Once again thank you for your review.

Stayed with my girlfriend and my family. Room had a lovely view of the river. Overall stay was good, staff are friendly, food was okay. Bed was a little uncomfortable but I still managed to sleep through each night. Used the leisure facilities, pool is incredibly warm.

I invited nine of my family, wife, children, husbands and grandchildren for a 3 night weekend break at the George booking five rooms to celebrate my 70th birthday. On arrival each room had a complimentary bottle of wine which was a lovely gesture. With the difference in ages, 20's to 70's , it could have been difficult to keep us...

Although the hotel is very dated and in need of extensive modernisation, it is a relaxing, clean and friendly place to stay. Staff are excellent, with customer service obviously a top priority for this hotel chain. Breakfast is of high-standard with plenty of variety and cooked to perfection! The additional use of gym and swimming pool is a great extra,...

We stayed in room 220. This seemed to be the run down part of the hotel. The bathroom was clean but very grotty. The flat sheet for our bed didn't fit and again it was all clean but just run down. I wouldn't reccomend and would not stay again

I love the saying "You get what you pay for" it often makes me feel better about things if I've bought on the cheap. Unfortunately, this is far from the case with this hotel, as we certainly paid well over the odds for a horrible room - seriously, I've stayed in nicer hostels for 1/3 of the price. First Impressions...

As other reviews have said hotel a little tired, but has a character not found in your chain hotels. Room good, bathroom in need of a little tlc, but everything worked and was clean. Food and service in resteraunt very good. Pool building needs some work, but again pool itself fine. All in all an enjoyable stay, odd niggles do...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
