In a world of should we travel or should we not, is it Amber or green or a no go red, we took the plunge of keeping to our plans and travelling to Tenerife. although this hotel was not our first choice. We originally booked for the GF Gran Adeje but disappointingly they still weren’t open but very kindly organised the alternative booking at the Gran Tacande. On arrival the hotel looks closed, but as we moved closer to the entrance a welcoming smile greeted us both and welcomed us into the lobby and reception area. a very personal touch and welcome from the manager while the reception team seamlessly went through out mandatory welcome documentation. Here I must note for all those British travellers that although you can enter Tenerife with no evidence of a negative PCR or vaccination, you are required to present this at the hotel in order to continue with your stay. A little hint, buy the Randox amber kit to save money and plan in your tests for pre/ post and return requirements. we travelled up to the 6th floor through clean lifts and covid compliant areas to arrive on the 6th floor what felt like a little dated area, however the rather dated corridors set the scene for a surprise and pleasant arrival in our room (647) which was modern clean and fully equipped, but most importantly an incredible corner balcony over looking the whole of Adeje, the harbour and perfect uninterrupted Seaview with sunbeds and an extremely comfortable sofa. The beds were extremely comfortable and all bedding was clean and fresh, with no tatty edges. A powerful hairdryer, good quality shampoo, conditioner, soap etc, with even dental kits for those that forgot the essential bath necessities. The Nespresso machine was a very welcome addition to the room with a late arrival we settle into our balcony seating and a strong coffee, very quickly replaced with the bubble’s that arrived as a welcome gift from the hotel management. Overall a great arrival. In the morning we headed for breakfast and we were not disappointed. There are some benefits to Covid in that, although not a huge buffet laid at to help yourself is provided, all your food was freshly prepared with no delays and lots of different options to accommodate every preference. The team didn’t tolerate a lack of masks from guests and were quick to remind all guests to leave the areas until a mask was worn correctly, however all carried out the task with a firm but diplomatic and professional approach that didn’t offend that gave reassurance that covid rules were being taken seriously. Despite the need for masks while moving about beyond your table the overall atmosphere of the dining area (mainly outside which was deivine, pretty and elegant), was upbeat, friendly and All the staff go above and beyond constantly to please with a very visible and interactive management team constantly checking ob guests in multiple languages in they are okay and enjoying their trip. On one occasion the manger approached our table and asked if we were enjoying our time in paradise, I had to smile because its not normally the description I would use for Tenerife, however the savvy design of this hotel, that gives the feeling of being in a tropical location of over looking nothing but trees sea and quaint buildings, with the church bell ringing on the hour, definitely gives that feeling of luxury and blissful surroundings that anyone would expect of a 5 start hotel and certainly beats the Meila we usually stop at. Throughout time at the extremely comfortable poolside loungers the Gran Tacande team were visible and acknowledged us every time they passed ensuring drinks were topped up and our every need was addressed for a lazy day in the sun. the pools are clean and regularly attended by the maintenance team checking chemical levels. In the evening you don’t have to actually move from your dining table as there is fantastic live entertainment throughout the night but if you do fancy that little bit of cocktail around the fire, take a trip to the trendy rooftop bar again with live entertainment continuing with the theme of elegance, but modern vibe for any age whether your 21 or 50 plus still in your 20s! or if you prefer a more relaxed informal evening sit in the piano bar on the 2nd floor where music still flow’s and the atmosphere provides a family vibe. Take the plunge, get that Amber covid kit and take a break at this hotel! We can’t wait to come back.

We stayed almost 3 week and it was really nice. Large room with a large comfortable bed and balcony with a sea view. Food is good especially breakfast. Very nice outdoor dining area and the Bocana by the pool is exellent for lunch which was always good. The pool and garden area are very clean and the staff was constantly cleaning the area. The location is excellent, on the beach and a mall underneath the pool area, also a restaurant. Used the spa and had a massage at the wellness centre, good professional staff.

Stayed for a week in June, the hotel is spotless and the cleaning is constantly kept on top of. The rooms and balconies are a very good size, the hairdryer in the room is the best I have had in a hotel and there is an iron and ironing board in the room which is a plus. The staff are mostly welcoming and helpful with the odd exception. It is a lot quieter than usual at the moment so no struggle to get a sunbed! Lots of places outside of the hotel are unfortunately closed but there are enough places open to have a good night. We were told on arrival that everywhere closes at 11pm but that is incorrect, some bars are open until 12/1am. The food is good, plenty of choice in my opinion. The rooftop bar has exceptional views, would definitely recommend. The only things that let it down were the entertainment (not much of it overall) and the rule of having to wear trousers to dinner, which we were not aware of prior to arriving.

Firstly , when we arrived, before we checked in, we were asked for evidence of a negative covid test. Despite researching beforehand we had no idea this was required. I had exchanged many e mails with the hotel beforehand and it was never mentioned. It seems it is a local tenerife rule. So - why don't you e mail all your guests to warn them ? Luckily we had NHS lfd tests with us and the hotel accepted that. Food - breakfast good but evening meal choice limited and same each night so we had several meals out. Also I hate the rule that men have to wear long trousers- why not tailored shorts ? Staff - excellent friendly and helpful. Beds - why no double beds? Large singles pushed together. All in all though we had a great week so 4/5.

Had good stay mostly... hotel does good job for 5* at this price and for location.. but don’t expect luxury! Friendly staff at reception. Helpful can help arrange activities inside and outside hotel! Only have to ask and they arrange taxi, diving, paragliding etc. really well done in this area! Pools lovely, hotel communal areas , gardens etc faultless and clean. rooms great big enough. Liked bath in the room.. spa shower nice touch! Felt like a criminal as a smoker.. smoking area was literally stand in a corner and frowned upon! Food : Breakfast good, evening buffet inconsistent! Sometimes great with tapas... other times dried up yesterday food.. reusing food constantly made my stomach hurt... caviar made me sick beware!!! Yogurts always on the final date of expiration! Room service menu very limited! Entertainment: salsa class was fun! Cuban band also great one night 💃... kids disco looked entertaining. Kids seemed to enjoy! Singers for evening meals just ok.. felt was lacking... maybe due to covid times.. after dinner just wanted to leave.. if there was something fun would sit and enjoy more drink. Spa: Unfriendly, cold welcoming... go somewhere else if have choice !! joined to hotel.. don’t think same company.. work in partnership.. pools and sauna good... spa treatments not worth the money.. manicure gave just one coat varnish that took 2 hours to dry.. only one spa girl for many guests so getting appointment difficult and then when finally go dissatisfied as they rushing.. not relaxing.. Over all good stay..
