The Mayan Palace Riviera Maya hotel evokes mixed feelings among guests. While the service garners appreciation for its friendliness, there's notable frustration over the sometimes slow response to complaints. Reviews frequently call out the need for room updates and improved cleanliness, contrasting with compliments on room size.
The atmosphere, marred by outdated decor and overbearing entertainment, alongside expensive amenities and inconvenient transportation within the resort, detract from the guest experience. Yet, some find the location convenient and cleanliness commendable, though the value is questioned due to pricey food and drinks.

Detailed Reviews

Beautiful resort with outstanding service so it should have been the perfect vacation for me, my husband and our 4 kids (ages 15, 14, 11 and 9). What got in the way was the constant nickle and diming and ridiculous prices for food and drinks. Like $16 for a child's hotdog at the pool! Getting into Playa del Carmen was almost $140 round trip for our family in the taxi provided. We are a well traveled family and underatand that vacation food comes at a price, but the prices at this resort even dwarfed what we were paying in Hawaii. The kitchen in the rooms is not equipped for any serious cooking either....no oven or dishwasher, just a small microwave and sink with a toaster and blender and what basically amounts to a hot pot. One knife that had the tip removed (I assume for safety). We did discover some tricks. For example, you can rent a cabana for $45 and it becomes free it you spend at least that amount in food and drinks. There are 2 for 1 poolside cocktails during happy hour, noon to 2:00. There's also a shuttle that will drop you off at the Mega in Playa for $11 one way. The market on the resort has some slightly more affordable options, and my kids didn't mind eating fried egg sandwiches and PBJ once or twice a day. Otherwise, it was a great time and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We went to Xel-Ha, Cozumel, charter fishing, diving and shopping in Playa del Carmen along with a few beach and pool days at the resort. Unfortunately will not be returning due to the food prices.

Our stay at the Vidanta Mayan Palace was excellent! The entire resort staff is impeccably friendly and polite. The resort is huge and we can't get to know everything. In the room we stayed the bed was huge and the room was very equipped with closet, very large bedroom, armchairs, closet, mud-created, TV, air conditioning and fan. It has 2 bathrooms, a shower and a separate toilet. The bed linen and bath towels always smelly and impeccable. The living room has two sofas that serve as a bed. Indicate for up to two adults or 3 younger children. It has TV, air conditioning, ceiling fan, center table. The kitchen is combined with the living room. It has mini fridge, electric stove, coffee maker, toaster and dishwasher. In addition to dishes, cutlery, cups, pots, pots, dish cloth, bottle opener, slider, cutting knives and board.
Inside the resort there are several restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a mini market where you can buy various items and prepare your meals. You can also shop at supermarkets outside the resort and enter with your shopping trouble-free at the resort.
The resort is on the highway and has nothing walking distance, so if you want to buy out you will have to go by car. Playa del Carmen is a 30-minute drive away. The only point to note is that it is 1 hour from Cancun and 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen, so you should take this travel time into account.
Inside the Vidanta is also the Cirque du Soleil. A spectacle that is simply incredible and should not be out of your script!
It was all wonderful and I would love to have spent more days there with our family.
Super recommend Vidanta! We love our experience!

The place is fascinating, with many rest options, places for reading, preserved green area, several swimming pools and a private beach that despite having many rocks it is possible to enter the water, I recommend using appropriate footwear. Vidanta Palace has several buildings called of lobbies, I stayed in lobby 09, located next to the reception, but far from the beach and pools, a 10-minute walk under shade for almost the entire length, the lower numbered lobbies are closer to the pools and beach, remembering that It is possible to travel throughout the resort using carts similar to those used in golf. The accommodation has a large bedroom with a comfortable bed, the living room is furnished with two comfortable sofas and can be extended for use by more people, the kitchen allows meals to be made and is equipped with a two-burner stove without oven, microwave and household utensils, bathroom meets the need, towel change and cleaning occur daily. Finally, the employees are polite and helpful, the values practiced at Vidanta are high, but they match the location

We went a couple of days ago to vidanta rivera maya as a family our expectations were high we have a timeshare membership that is a joke our problems started on the first day they would pick us up at the airport we spent more than an hour waiting for a flight of more than 9 hrs then when you arrive they ask you for 20 dollars which was to obtain some benefits, it was falsely to give you the hassle of changing the membership to a category or buying it if you don't have it, they make you feel like a founding member and that you were lucky enough to qualify for one Better they have like 3 bosses asking what they had offered you and obviously they offer you something better we wasted the whole morning and they show you something that you really are not going to have when you go we talked about it with several people and several of them told us that there was no hotel with another no difference they were too insistent the first day we wanted to freshen up from the trip the first problem bad showers we reported again and again in the 7 days they never came to fix them and many times without hot water, then the toilet was clogged and the sewer smell was horrible Apart from the fact that one day they also did not clean the apartment, the facilities are old, the internet is terrible and the food inside is nothing out of this world and a canned drink is expensive, it costs you around 5us. I recommend that if you have your vacation ready, stock up at the Supermarkets that are outside are much cheaper and they will eat better than there. The other ones at night are too quiet, the day ends at 6/30 and there is nothing else to do. You have to pay for everything. If you even want to go out of the hotel, you should check super Well, when we checked out, they were charging us extra things and some donations that they never informed us about, so I recommend checking the account the night before and saving all the receipts, but I really didn't like it, I wouldn't go back, apart from the fact that there is no beach to bathe a lot of rock, I don't recommend it, there are many better ones

Place he to live us three times and we needed up having to rent an Airbnb for other nights and they were supposed to call us back when they got another room.
All three times rooms were smelling of mildew mold.
I’m asthmatic and highly allergic and ended up coming home to be sick.
They only credited us $100usd and that was like pulling teeth to get that.
Took forever in check out because of this.
We were promised to get our laundry washed for free to get the smell out and also 250 credit but because we checked out the day we left instead of one day early while that manager that offered us the $250 off was there nothing was honored.
We got two free drinks and we didn’t use them as we got them night before leaving.
If you have breathing problems at all or low immune system issues like me DO NOT STAY HERE. Even the employees all know the ac over floods with water and rotts the structure. They keep replastering over it so you can’t see and also paint freshly over it to hide it.
The hotel knows about it be isn’t doing anything about it except trying to sell you overpriced resort agreement to a rotting resort.
Don’t sign anything they are dishonest guys.
Bad experience deserves negative stars. The welcoming guide that showed us map of hotel etc gave us coupons for going to see time share offer. This guy send me lied and told us we would get access to highest level membership pool area and was not after the three hours wasted in the sale pitch.
This guy was sending messages on WhatsApp and ended up adding me to local nightclub lists without my consent and es being texted to come to their club after we came back home.
Can’t trust your information either with them

Terrible! We arrived at the hotel on 12/29/2023 and left on 01/05/24. They put us in a dirty room, full of sand, extremely moldy and even the bins were full of rubbish. Service at reception does not exist. I had to walk 10 minutes to the reception because the phone was not working and the transfer is practically full during peak hours, when it does come, and I was informed that there was no room available to change, but if I paid a mere $12,000 for a vacation package, they could change my room. Inadmissible. I stayed for 1 week (because there was no way to go back sooner because I couldn't get there in advance) with my son and husband taking anti-allergy medication as they are allergic to mold. For each meal, be prepared to spend, for 2 people, at least R$500.00 just for the main dish. I only had two people who genuinely tried to help me (the maid who helped me find a crib for my daughter after four hours of begging reception) and a busboy in one of the restaurants (Dani). The rest did the basics and asked for a tip and when I refused, they frowned and the service ended. If you want to use anything inside the hotel you will have to pay extra. I only had access to the main pool and for any other access, I had to pay. In order not to spend so much time in the room to minimize exposure time for my son and husband, we closed trips until late at night or stayed in the pool until night. And... Get ready, you will pay for anything inside the resort. A scoop of ice cream, for example, will cost you a measly R$35.
In fact, they invited me to a 1-hour presentation of the Resort. We arrived at 11 am and only managed to leave at 5 pm after my husband threw a huge "tantrum" because he couldn't take it anymore and the saleswoman said: "We're going to close, here in Mexico there is a law where you can cancel up to 5 days without any fine. You close with me and I'll change your room and then you come and cancel". I thought it was absurd... A tremendous lack of ethics. Anyway, if you're willing to spend and go through troubles like long-distance walks (I've never walked so much in my life carrying a child, a child's bag, etc.), to tell the truth, I managed to get a transfer very few times, the restaurants, I didn't eat anything bad, but all over R$500 each meal for two people. The Christmas decorations were beautiful, but really, I refuse to give any different marks to this one due to the terrible room (affectionately nicknamed the horror room) and the lack of care for the guest in a week of New Year's holidays (not There was nothing at the resort for New Year's Eve that wasn't paid for - in a closed restaurant). In the end, they made me sign a term in which I committed not to go to the Resort for the next 5 years because I didn't close their vacation package, I signed happily and... what's more, I even signed guaranteeing that I would never return, as it is not a place I will return to with my family. The least I expect from a hotel with such a structure is a clean and comfortable room. Anyway, we returned home, my son and husband still doped on anti-allergy.

Our group stayed at the Mayan Palace for 5 nights. The resort is beautiful- lots of nature, vegetation, animals. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was very expensive and mediocre in taste. There is a grocery store at the resort and Walmart nearby if you'd prefer to cook in the room. Our room had a 2 burner stove which allowed for minimal cooking. The resort is huge so if you do not enjoy or are unable to walk, you will need a shuttle. The beach is rocky which was a huge disappointment, but take a 10 min walk to the left and you'll find in beautiful clear beaches. All in all it was a nice resort but I personally would have preferred a location with nicer beaches right there as the beach was a big part of choosing this vacation.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your experience at the Mayan Palace! It sounds like a beautiful resort with its lush surroundings and friendly staff, which can really enhance a getaway. It's great to hear that you appreciated the amenities in your room, like the stove for cooking, and that you found options nearby for meals. However, it's unfortunate that the food didn’t meet your expectations and that the beach was rocky, especially if having good beach access was a priority for you. It’s good to know about the beautiful beaches a short walk away, as that could be helpful for future visitors. It seems like a solid choice overall, but it's understandable that you'd prefer a location with better beach access given its importance to your vacation. Your feedback will certainly help others in their decision-making process! The Mayan Palace Riviera Maya Management

Positive points: cordiality of most of the staff, messenger service (luggage and shopping), transfer to Cirque de Soleil, location, local beauty.
Negative points: internal transfer, room, room service, reception (check-out), beach, food prices
The overall structure of the complex is very good, but it requires transport for almost everything due to the distances and there is a long delay in gaining access.
Beach with many rocks, preventing you from enjoying the sea.
The pool was beautiful, but the use of the cabanas was US$45. We only use chairs and umbrellas.
Quite high prices for all food.
The main reception did not accept payment in dollars (in cash), only Mexican pesos, although the entire complex accepted dollars. We had to pay by card at check-out.
The room we stayed in had balcony doors that couldn't be locked and all the doors stuck to the floor, we didn't have covers for the sink and bathtub drains and room service didn't even replace soap without our request. The number of towels was insufficient and we had to request more every day.
There was no dishwasher or washing machine in the room, nor an electric oven, just a cooktop and microwave. There was a fee for washing the dishes if you wanted the service.
There is a parking fee (US$7/day), but the car was exposed to the weather.
Some of the staff made the experience worthwhile, and the pool was great for the children, but the room, room service and transfer service didn't leave us wanting to return to the hotel.

We have gone to Vidanta three times. The kitchen is the most important difference for us. We hate all-inclusive requirements. Since we can cook in the room, it cuts down a lot on the cost of the vacation and that allows us to enjoy the location without worrying so much about our budget. If you do want to eat out, the restaurants are excellent and have a wide variety of options for sophisticated dining and for kids tastes too. The staff is kind but there is a huge push to buy into the resort. Each time we go, we promise we will turn down the sales presentation as it feels high pressured and takes up half of the day. One of these days, we'll actually turn it down!

Dear Guest, It's great to hear that you've had such positive experiences at Vidanta, and it's understandable why the kitchen in your room is a big plus. Being able to cook your own meals can certainly make a vacation more affordable and flexible. It's also nice to know that the on-site restaurants offer a variety of dining options for both adults and kids. The high-pressure sales presentations can indeed be a bit overwhelming. It sounds like you value your vacation time too much to spend half a day in those meetings. Hopefully, next time you'll be able to enjoy your stay without feeling obligated to attend the sales pitch. Do you have any tips for making the most of the kitchen facilities or favorite meals you've cooked during your stays? Best Regards.. The Mayan Palace Riviera Maya Management

Terrible service, a lot of time wasted to transfer you from the room to the pools, it does not have a beach because it is surrounded by reefs and despite this they have the cynicism to restrict the common areas by zones and categories to force you to extend your membership for another one, all The food inside the hotel is expensive, they never give you a solution to your complaints about bad service, they only tell you to change your membership, the service is terrible, my family has been with her for more than 30 years and this has never happened before. I feel enormously disappointed. 😞 and annoying😡 at the moment I am in the Playa del Carmen complex and everything from the beginning has been very bad, I do not recommend it for vacation if you do not want to have a very bad time, there are better options like Xcaret than if it is a A little more expensive but in terms of price and quality they have no comparison with everything you have to pay extra for, it's the same, I hope they improve their service.

There was a 300 peso change on the first day for "donative fundacion' which I enquired about and it was a donation to a charity but YOU CAN DECLINE IT on check out which I certainly did. They got enough money from me.
The turtle excursion includes Mayan ruins and lunch also. Book thru Cancun Adventures at Mayan Palace concierge desk.
No, food is reasonably priced too.
